I've watched Eurovision every year for almost a decade now, and they haven't gotten over Lordi. The "Finnish metal demons" are mentioned every single time! So iconic, that was a well deserved win. Best wishes for Käärijä this year, I'm definitely voting for Cha Cha Cha because that song has become the BGM of my brain.

The one year that the Eurovision was actually interesting for a rebellious teen like I was🤣 Just saw them live last week and was definitely excited, although I really only knew this one song. They're on tour as support for Sabaton at the moment, great band to open an amazing night! I think a couple of band members changed over the years, but they're still putting on an amazing show, and Mr Lordi had a lot of fun throwing around the 4 or 5 German phrases that he knows😅😆

I am familiar with this band but I did a little homework after seeing this upcoming premiere and I like it.. That sense of humor...🤣 Imagining Lordi opening for Sabaton now. What an entertaining show! Love Sabaton!

Many congratulations to Lordi for the first Finnish victory in 2006. Today I'm still frustrated that Nightwish did not perform their song Sleepwalker in 2000 on stage. Obviously they should have been then the first Finnish winner. No doubt, for me the best Eurovision song ever made in history. Unfortunately the Finnish jury that time chose the wrong song to go the Eurovision songcontest.

I loved this reaction & analysis, Anna! I remember watching the Eurovision song contest that year. Before this song was even halfway through, I knew I had to vote for Finland. And then I was impatiently waiting for the voting lines to open, because there were still about ten more songs after this one. At the time, Lordi very strongly reminded me of the band GWAR. Not musically, because I never really got around to listening to GWAR, but the whole aesthetic and the backstory to the band. I would love to see you react to Blackbriar. Arms of the Ocean, Until Eternity, Beautiful Delerium, I'd Rather Burn, Selkie, The Séance or Mortal Remains would all be good.

I Don't watch Eurovision-dreadful stuff, but I remember someone telling me about this Finnish entry. Kudos to Finland for it. Eurovision had a chance to get vaguely cool- and surprise surprise reverted to its usual low standards. Bless you Lass.

I do remember seeing this. I'll never forget the host of the german broadcast (who is a comedian) comment "The orcs have just won the grand prix" soooo funny. As a metalhead this was cool to have happened. This year the Germans send some metal.

nice analysis, i happen to cover Lordi's music so my vocals are very much influenced by Mr Lordi's and then i apply said vocals when i cover other types of bands or music ;)

9:00 I think is Pasi Rantanen, which is not officially part of the band, but he went with them on eurovision as guest star. It's the man with the black coat, you can see him when they show the whole stage

To me, my favourite ESC moment. A heavy metal band winning the whole. All metalheads around (including me) voted for them. And probably a lot of others did it as well. \m/ \m/

I stumbled upon a KISS cover here on YT of "Domino" that Mr Lordi performed with ex KISS lead guitarist Bruck Kulick and it is a very good live cover! Search for "Lordi Domino". Bruce Kulick is the best lead guitar KISS has had, ever.. in my opinion and he still sounds amazing. KISS (as well as Maiden) was one of those bands that turned me on to heavier rock as a youngster. No doubt KISS influenced Lordi as well. The stage presence tells it all.

Thanks for this :) Mr Lordi is vocally like a cross of Oderus Urungus fromvGWAR, Gene Simmons, Udo Dirkschneider from Accept, and Brian Johnson. Very hard to categorize because no one singer really v sounds like him. When I first saw this, I thought "these guys have it, but why aren't theycAmerican? We need more bands that some like this".

Yes the chracters do have backstories. Here's what I can remember from top of my head: Lordi is a crossbreed between demon and troll. He was conceived not so consensual circumstances let's put it that way. He also have bunch supertnatural and demonic powers etc. Amen is zombified ancient egyptian mummy of pharaoh. Who was also an assassin who got his face mauled by failed assassination attempt. Ox is bulltaur. Half human half bull. Who lived in island in ancient Greek. He was attacked and killed by soldiers and bring back to life by time travelling sorcerer. Kita is an ancient gladiator alien beast. With enormous amount of strenght. And Awa is a ghost from Victorian England. Sorry that longer than I anticipated. Oon katsonut euroviisuja jo vuodesta 2003. Kunpa Käärijä ois voittanut. While Lordi is not my top favorite band, it is a nice song. What I loved most about it was how all the commentators decreed that song as the end of the world and then how the voting public just went "F*** you, we like what we like" 😂 And as a complete aside Finish sounds so nice when I hear Anna speak. It sounds so friendly and inviting. Even if most people say it is a very hard one to learn

Unfortunately due to all excessive amount of work, shitty deals plus other issues and mishaps, all members of ESC lineup except Mr. Lordi have quit the band. Luckily current band is still strong and entertaining to see once in a while.

I love a band with a good gimmick. I like Ghosts Satanic Church style. My favourite is probably Warkings who play fallen warriors across history who met in the after life to form a metal band. The singer is a Roman Military Tribune, The Drummer is a Spartan, the Guitarist a Crusader, and the Bassist a Viking.

Onhan tää aika legenda biisi, ei voi muuta sanoa. Tuo mieleen muistoja itellekin. Pystyn näkemään tuon Ghost vertauksen vaikka Tobias Forgen ja Tomi Putaansuun laulutyylit onkin aika erilaiset. Jos pistetään uudeks reagointiehdotukseks vaikka "10 Years - Wasteland" tai "Alter Bridge - Blackbird".

Vahva suositus viime vuonna ilmestyneelle Lordiary-kirjalle. Siinä avataan varsin kattavasti mm. juuri tuota hahmojen ja pukujen suunnittelua ja sitä millanen koko projekti on. Toki myös koko Lordin historia alusta loppuun...hieno teos vaikkei Lordi bändinä edes niin kiinnostaisikaan.

Tää on yksi niitä "missä olit kun x tapahtui" -hetkiä. Itse olin mökillä kaveriporukan kanssa ja kun voitto varmistui pamautettiin suoraan laiturilta järveen.
