There's never enough time to explore the incredible trails in Moab, UT. But we decided that we had to give Fins & Things a try before we had to head home. This trail was a wild ride! I've never spent so much time being straight up vertical in a car before. The steel bumpers got put to the test against the sandstone as we encountered a number of steep ledges.

Hi Ben, I'll be in Moab next week and wasn't planning on Fins but am interested in the trails in Arches, tower and the whale eye, how much easier were they than fins was for you? I'll be in a 4r w/ 3" and 265's.
@BenStinnett
@BenStinnett 12 дней назад
Hey Rick! I think the Arches trails will be super doable for your setup. Only a few very minor technical sections, mostly just some bumpy roads and light sand driving when I was there. Conditions may have changed, I'd suggest checking the trail on OnX to see some updated trail reports!

Also, if we were to try the first 2 mile section of fins on the south side of the paved road, is it the same, easier or harder than the rest of the trail? Thx!
@BenStinnett
@BenStinnett 12 дней назад
I think you should definitely give it a try. I didn't feel like any of the trail was particularly difficult. That first section has a couple of easier alternate routes too if you decide to avoid some obstacles. Let me know how it goes!

This is such a fun trail! The first time I went to Moab, in 2017 with some buddies on a mountain biking trip, I rented a two-door Rubicon for my birthday. I took it out to fins and things and ran the trail solo, it was a blast! I had to jump out a few times to scout my lines, but that Rubicon made everything stupid easy. I didn't even need to hit the lockers at all. Actually, renting this Jeep pretty much led me to buying a 4Runner, haha. At that point, I was like I have GOT to get one of these!! But then I drove it on the road for a while and was like nah, this isn't for me, I'd have to get the four door. I had visions of running a lift and 35's Then reality hit me and I realized I need to drive this thing on my 60 mile round trip to work. Finally decided I needed something that was a better daily driver on pavement, and I live in the Northeast where we don't really have many trails anyway, so I settled on the 4Runner. I'd love to get out there and do it with my 4R, though I don't think I would want to do anything more difficult without a spotter.
@BenStinnett
@BenStinnett 3 года назад
That is such an awesome story! I can definitely see how this trail could lead to a serious addiction! Haha. I think you'd definitely find a lot to do in Moab with your 4Runner if you ever make it out that way. So many trials, so little time! lol. Thanks for the comment man!

@@BenStinnett thanks! That trip was definitely a bucket list item, I had always wanted to mountain bike Moab and also always wanted to off-road there. Knocking those two items out in one trip was definitely a lot of fun. I live in Rhode Island, so getting out there with the 4Runner is going to be quite the trip, but hopefully I can do it if not this year, next year.

Hi guys! New to the channel. Awesome channel Ben. You have inspired my wife and i and is one of the few channel's that we have watch that is not pretentious. We are in Southern California. We don't know anyone who overlands, off roads or likes this type of activities. Looking to meet new friends to go out on trails. I noticed you suggest going with someone but what if i don't know anyone. Do you guys ever do runs with people from your channel? I got my rig this last week. 2019 TRD Off Road Premium. Hey Stitch! I appreciate you being here and the kind words man! I’m hoping to get a handful of group trips going this summer, and as long as the world doesn’t go to hell in a handbag, we’ll definitely do a SoCal one! Until then, I’d recommend hitting up some of the more popular spots where you’ll be sure to have other folks around or passing by on the trails pretty regularly. Anza Borrego, Alabama Hills, Pioneertown, and Afton Canyon are all good spots to check out 👍

Hi Jin! That’s a good question. I’ve seen videos and read reports of plenty of stock 4Runners making it without issue. So I’d say that if you feel confident in your ability to navigate the vehicle through some steep slickrock and rock ledges, your 4Runner should be up to the challenge!

Hey thanks David! It took my way longer than I'd like to admit to make that little moab intro. haha. I'm running Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 285/70/17 and the lift is a set of King coilovers!

@@BenStinnett Thanks Ben! I was the one the other day all excited about my RCI rocksliders and skids. Like Christmas. Lol. I'm thinking about lifting my Tacoma soon and of course rims and tires after that is why I ask. I think I'm going with going with the 6112 and 5160 Bilsteins. @@davidr.1517 those blisteins will treat you right! If I hadn’t gotten a smoking deal on the kings then that’s probably the exact setup I’d be rocking. I may be biased, but I really think the 285s hit a sweet spot of off-road performance without killing your MPG too terribly and the perfect stance 👌

Hey P! So far we’ve been carrying him up and down the ladder, full grown he should be ~35lbs, so it may still work to carry him up and down. My other thought though has been to add something like the annex room under the tent to make him a comfortable place to sleep!

I went down to 18psi here! I think 16-18psi is a safe general bet for this type of sandstone slickrock and sandy conditions. Plenty of grip and sidewall flex, without being so low that I was worried about popping a bead.
