Did anyone really listen to what Fiona said at the beginning? She was aware of what she was attempting to do. From everything I've seen regarding Jimi Hendrix, he was a "gracious cat" and would accepted this cover with open arms. Jimi Hendrix was all about "music" and Electric Lady Studios has served his vision well!
What's truly fantastic about her doing this is not so much the song, but her voice. She has such an amazing natural tremolo in her singing that gives such a genuine, sincere feeling of the song.
Very sorry for your loss; I hope this beautiful song gives you a bit of solace. Here's another great ballad by another great guitarist (huge Hendrix fan with incredible covers of "Little Wing" and lots of great Jimi tunes), who lost his sister and wrote a tribute to her called :"Epilogue For Lisa": here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j7L_JSJGmPs.html
Aw I am sorry to hear that. :-( So sad. What a touching song and great version... (I did a version at home during Covid lockdown which is on my page. Not quite as amazing as Fiona! lol). Take care. xoxo
Fiona I am a huge Hendrix fan have his signature tattooed on my right arm and my fingers spell out Voo Doo Chile as he said.... You nailed this song 100% and he he would have loved it!!
I was obsessed with Jimi in my early high school years, everyone thought I was going to marry the man. I feel you brother with all those Jimi Tattoo tributes.
This is one of my desert isle isolation songs if I were given 10 songs that I can listen to forever, this would be one of them. And to have Fiona singing it makes me wish I could take her to dinner even more.
I remember when this came out and arguing with friends about whether it was "good" or not. I think it's a brilliant cover by a very different artist than was Jimi. I love both versions. And, I appreciate that Ms. Apple has, seemingly, never given too many fucks what others thought. She chose to sing a song that meant something to her and own it a bit in her way. The tone and mood of the song is entirely different but, IMO, highlights how damn good the song is that it can be taken in two entirely different directions and still be really damn good.
@@angelicaryans8819 Sadly the family of Jimi is bickering over legal issues over who owns the music rights. Thats why it's hard to find much on the web. As soon as copy righted material hits the toob, the family gets it dumped.
I’ve recently learned this on guitar and forgot that Jimi never had the chance to play it live. I searched for live versions of it and this is a beautiful tribute to a man so naturally introverted he had a stammer in his childhood, the same man who became the legend.
Fiona, first notes, first sound of your voice and it was clear that your song would be enchanting, sweet and nice to Hendrix because one can hear at once that you love Jimi and we do too.
Jimi would of loved it. I think that’s what’s important. He would never have have kept his music from others. He would let it be for all. I was around in his days. I’ve a very good sense of him. He’d of smiled and hugged her I’ll bet.
Did anyone ever read the letter she wrote to her fans when she had to cancel a portion of her tour years ago because her dog Janet, of fourteen years, was going to die soon? She wanted to be with her when the time came? It was one of the most beautiful and heartfelt things I've ever read. I'm sure Fiona had this song going through her mind at the time of Janet's passing. Fly on sweet angel.
@@elizabethmuko5496 I never said she was. I just hate American Idol and how people think those clowns are true artists when they are just plain manufactured copy cats of other people's art and genius.
I was at her concert in 1997 in CA, I won backstage after party passes from a radio station. I fell in LOVE with her cover of Angel at that show, I was crying in the audience. But I just felt terrible for her in person, she was so tiny and frail and she was crying as her manager dragged her around to meet all her "guests". I couldn't even shake her hand, it felt like such an intrusion into her privacy. Ugh...I left immediately after that.
yes...listening to this whilst gazing out at moon and sea at sundown calling out to angels, this song helps me so much... especially when she screams out quietly...a feeling I know well, as does she, bless her heart...peace and happiness to you...and to all good people...
People really like to hate on her. I don't get it. She's just doing music as herself. If you don't like her, don't listen to her. I have always thought she was great.
This is one of Jimi's songs for everyone...unless they rapped it or some crap. Sing it with feeling and that's just fine. I like her but anyone that doesn't no problem but this song is like a hymn.
Wow she's amazing she did a better version than the original with this song and with across the universe by the beatles. That's fuckin impossible I'd a thought if I read this before I heard them but it's true it's true
