Fiorenza Cossotto as Azucena, Piero Cappuccilli as the Conte di Luna and Jose van Dam as Ferrando in the third act of Verdi's Il Trovatore. Conductor Herbert von Karajan, Vienna, 1978.
Cossotto's ability to change the color of her voice to match the phrasing or even that of another within an ensemble is perhaps the most impressive aspect of her remarkable vocal gifts.
Yo la escuché en vivo en el Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires , en éste mismo rol, y les puedo asegurar que era impresionante ! jamás te olvidaré grandísima Fiore !!!!
Yes. This is an exciting performance though it is sometimes marred by Cossotto's failure to reach the desired note. Nonetheless, Cossotto was an outstanding mezzo.
I don't generally put in negative comments, but I must on this. As good as the video is, and as good as the principals are, I couldn't hear the chorus. I am a chorister, and have done this show, and this is such exciting music that it is nearly impossible not to sing it with many more Fs than are in the score. Did the Maestro totally cut the chorus, or did he hold them back? It seems to me that there was no need to rein the chorus in with these wonderful principals. Anyway, more chorus.
