WANDSWORTH COUNCIL is 'reviewing' the funding of School Crossing Patrols. We have been told that our two valued lollipop people, Lucille and Edmund, will no longer patrol our busiest crossings from September.
This is happening all over the country - and the campaign to save our lollipop people is gaining momentum. You too can help by strongly objecting to the "cut" and requesting that the council reconsiders its decision.
HOW YOU CAN FIGHT THESE CUTS
· Sign the petition (in the playground)
· Put your name, address, date and signature on the letter attached and either post it to the town hall or drop it back into the school office. We will hand deliver a batch of letters to the correct councillors
Write your OWN letter - personal and heartfelt words make a difference (draft letter also on school website) to:
Councillor Ravi Govindia
cc Bob Langridge
Town Hall
Wandsworth High Street
London.
SW18 2PU
· Join a group of concerned parents and children outside Fircroft at 8.30am on Friday 8th July 2011 to object to the council's decision -- we have a load of fluorescent bibs for everyone to wear and we're encouraging kids to bring home-made lollipops. A photographer from the local paper is scheduled to be there
· There is also a 'lollipop workshop' in the main hall on Thursday 7th July 5-6pm, before the maths workshop/PTA sorting evening for the summer fair. Come along to make your own lollipop or banner for the morning "lolli-protest"
· Please tell other parents and local residents what is happening. You can also use social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, to spread the word - and join the Facebook campaign to Save Our Lollipop People at: / 198193410208097
· Please urge local residents & parents to sign the online petition set up by our local MP (and fellow Fircroft parent) Sadiq Khan at: www.sadiqkhan.c...

As well as councils reversing their decisions in Dorset, the Evening Standard and BBC Newsround have covered a successful campaign in Southwark, where parents protested about losing their lollipop ladies. The council took note and backed down for a year -- so "parent power" really does work.
