The recruits are 1/4 of their way through SMFR Fire Academy in Week 4! This week they work on hose lines: pulls/loading/management, ropes and knots, practical test #1, air consumption and forcible entry.
This is excellent! So much information shown as to how much there is to know and learn. It give the civilians an inside view of how dangerous firefighting can be. They go through all this training for a reason. Firefighting is hard work and everyone has to stay safe in order to do their jobs properly. God bless them all! They truly are our heroes who put their lives on the line every single day. If they're not putting out fires, they are extricating trapped individuals out of massive car wrecks, pulling people out from under trains and on and on and on. It's a wonder they can keep their sanity with all they encounter but saving a life makes it all worthwhile to them. They are truly amazing and MY hat is off to all of them!
im a sophomoree in highschoo. and there is not a lot of info on best paths for becoming a firefighter if you guys could make a video on that that would be awsome.
johns lawns I would look around for your local career tech school and when you can apply and some have junior and senior programs there I would also talk to someone at a fire station I’m sure they would be glad to tell you about the ways to become a firefighter I myself am a junior who goes to a career tech school for firefighting
I'm not a firefighter yet. But what I did was go around a handful of fire stations around my city and talk to the first person I saw. Know they're busy so have any questions you have on hand. They told me what they did which is go to one of the schools here in San Diego to become an emt then go for fire in the same school. I dont know where you are so it's best to get out there. Or even call around.
1.) Become an EMT/Paramedic desirable 2.)Finish School with an Associates degree in science or fire science/Bachelors desirable 3.)Begin Applying to departments with no entry requirements, learn the process 4.)Train physically to prepare for a lifelong career 5.)prepare for your oral interview 6.)Do good around your community, helping with kids and the elderly. Very important. No one is going to give you a job. You must earn it. Work hard you are young. If you really want this Start Working now. Go for a run and get out there and learn who you are. They aren’t expecting you to go in being the best firefighter. Once you’re in you’ll be able to become the best firefighter. Food for thought.
Can't wait for all the weeks to follow!! I have a whole new respect for my cousin and what he had to do to follow his dream. He says he does it to make a difference in some small way - to be a part of something bigger than himself. It takes a special breed to be a smoke eater! :-)
LOVE VIDEOS waiting for week five thank u firefighters I’m going to be firefighter when I grow up I’m 11 right now but still wanting to go to your academy
Yeah....until you come across a totally frozen hydrant at 3 am fire and the building has heavy fire showing......now what rookie? Ill give you a hint.....the 1st letter begins with F!
Slavic Pinto I did the same, never forget that and dragging those hoselines with the rest of my company! Loved it! Happened at UW-Oshkosh Discover Firefighting. Anyone wants a great experience, check it out!
i’m an 8th grader in middle, and this is my life long dream. and there isn’t much info on the best paths to becoming a firefighter so could you possibly make a video on just general information about becoming a firefighter?
Hey! I know this is an older comment so idk if you found the info you needed but tomorrows firefighter is a RU-vid channel that I found helpful. Wish you the best!
Every department is different. After high school go ahead and enroll in EMT school, that’s the best place to start. Also start exercising now, lift weights and run. If you play sports in school then you should be good to go physically

I have a request for a video in the future I guess? Could you guy & gal, or would you, I should say... Make a video of describing all your guy's callsigns on radio's and pulse-point/ how you guys use pulse-point as a tool within your department? (P.S.- AMAZING VIDEO, SERIOUSLY, IM IN HIGH SCHOOL AND IM A FIREFIGHTING/PARAMEDIC FANATIC, AND SERIOUSLY WATCH YOUR VIDEOS OVER AND OVER! Never stop making unscripted and also the vlogs are amazing!!!!)
I would like to ask why in the room after opening the door, with an axe in the door to knock three times? I don't understand why? Is it to prevent the ground from collapsing? Thanks
probably to test the stability and integrity of the floor before walking into a burning building. especially since they're in Colorado, a lot of their homes have basements, and the last thing you want to do is collapse through the floor and into fire. or it may be the last thing you do.
Wew, hey, I really want to know, what kind of door trainer that is at around 9 minutes. Is it purchased or is it DIY? If so, could you hit me up with some constructionplans? That would be awesome!
Is strange watching fire fighters get trained for using chainsaws and other similar equipment, in Australia we have a 4th emergency service called the SES. They do swift water rescue, storm damage, search and rescue.
I'm with you guys. I'm from a small rural fire department so I realize what we do is completely different than a large municipal department, but I've always been taught when snagging a hydrant to pull the LDH off and wrap the hydrant, then tell the driver to go. Once we have 100+ feet of hose on the ground we begin flushing the hydrant and making our connections. I wonder why they were training like this?
@@lindahoff7391 Okay, didn't think about that, but it makes sense. Are you using the term "dry hydrant" as a hydrant that might be damaged and not capable of supplying water from the pressurized system?
How can I join training and work as a fire fighter in your organisation.I have got 8 plus years experience in Aviation Rescue and Firefighter and still working . Please guide me how I can apply ........
i was taught you couldn't use a hooligan tool like that in forced entry. they don't handle that kind of torque so you're wanting to pushit up and down, twisting the head of the tool, right?
I’m in middle school it would be amazing if you made a video of how fire academy would be like But your Academy might be different because I live in Louisiana
US Fire Academy = 16 Weeks, German Fire Training = 1-3 Years depending on which fire service you are doing and in most cases, you need a three-year training as a craftsman or as a trained paramedic. I think i need to move to the US
our medic school is generally a full year (which you have to juggle with work - they're all designed to be shift-friendly though cuz it's mostly firefighters who attend the programs) - it's a LONG year full of lecture, labs, clinicals, and ambulance ride-alongs
good job to pio Eric and pio Connor at South metro fire department and I like fire department 🌞 and hop that you have been in your life as pio at South metro fire department
10:56 That's not how you swing an implement effectively for effect. Im surprised you don't teach to grab it by the blade. The fact that it took seven swings to get through a little sheet metal is laughable. Hold it right, one swing, your done.
