They were making them from the 1960s until the early 1980s, but those light plates were made from 1970-early 1980s, so that must be where these 4051's are from
I saw the note saying that on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018, they will be testing the hallway fire alarms at 1:00 PM, telling me to expect some noise, door, and elevator disruptions as Matthew and I returned to our apartment with our food and drinks from Taco Bell and our paid merchandise from Walmart. At that time after we finished eating and unpacked our merchandise, right about the time Matthew was about to call Riff and I was about to plan our foursome trip this summer, the fire alarms started to go off, thankfully the note on the bulletin board notified us ahead of time. Signed, Angela.
One question it looks like when they replaced the panel they also replaced the pulls and smokes. But why did they not replaced the old horns? And i guesting the old 2001 panel died?
As mentioned in the description there were no new expansions or construction add ons so no need for more signals. The old ones are functioning in good condition so we left them. As for the 2001 it was functional so therefore scrapped for re-useable parts at other customer sites.
I assume the 4050-80s here are original to the building's construction. In the others, the 4051+4050-80s were part of a system upgrade in the late 1970s, hence the backboxes. (I've seen quite a few instances of really old buildings having 4051+4050-80 horn/lights, and while some would be flush onto the wall there'd always be at least one surface-mounted on a backbox, usually if it's on a brick wall.)
Same. They sound more intense when on 4050-80 light plates, IMO (because of the horn vibrating against the plate's brackets.) My first elementary school had Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights, and they were REALLY loud. They were on 20bpm March Time (system was a Simplex 2001 or 4002 tied into a 4208 panel from the 70s.)
Very interesting. Usually in my area if they do something like that, they'd either keep the existing conventional initiating devices and just use zone adapter modules with the new panel, or they'd replace everything including the old alarm signals. I'm also reminded of a building at my friend's university that had a 2001 system installed around 1979 or 1980 with 4051+4050-85 horn/lights, single-action 4251-20 pulls and 4259-36 smoke detectors, In the early 2000s, a Simplex 4100 panel replaced the 2001 but they kept the existing devices and just used zone adapter modules. Then in 2015, the whole thing came out in favor of a Simplex 4100ES voice-evac system with conventional multi-candela TrueAlert speaker/strobes, and addressable TrueAlarm detectors and dual-action 4099-9006 pulls (with the LED indicator, like the pulls here have.)
Pretty interesting. I have also seen quite a few instances where the Simplex panel and alarm signals are new but the initiating devices are older. This happened with the art center at my friend's university; their Simplex 4002 panel got replaced (presumably with a 4007ES) and they removed the old Simplex 4051 horns and installed TrueAlert horn/strobes onto the 4050-80 light plates (before the 4002 they had a Simplex 4208), but they kept the 4251-30 break-glass pulls and the 2098-9201 smoke detectors.
Nice video! Not common to see these older mechanical horns in buildings (usually they're changed out and such), especially the 4051s (and with the 4050- light plates). Boy they must be painfully to listen to ever now and then though lol 😄
+SAFETECH I assume it's much easier to replace the panel than it is to replace every single notification device in the building (assuming it's a large one) 😄. Although now that I think about it, that panel is addressable, and the 2001 was not. So don't you have to include monitor modules or such in order for the addressable Simplex panel to recognize the 4051s? The pull stations look like they're already addressable, so that's probably taken care of. Hmm, maybe that's only the case with some addressable panels. I know very minimal about addressable fire alarm panels 😜
In the eastern Massachusetts area when they install a new addressable Simplex fire alarm system with all new devices, they never use addressable TrueAlert signals; they always go for the conventional ones (usually with multi-candela strobes.) I suppose it could be customer preference, or maybe the Simplex district around this part of the state doesn't like using addressable TrueAlert signals...
Great video 😀👍👍 The tech I work with used to work for (about 15 years) Tyco, now he works in my school district, (about 10 years) witch is ironically tagged and checked by Tyco/Simplex, etc. The techs for the district do maintenance on the system, while Tyco Just does a major inspiration of the systems. Odd relationship.
SAFETECH Were the original pull stations 4251-20 t bars or chevrons? And if I was there when they were doing the upgrade, I would have asked for the 2001 as well as all the pulls
Seeing as the building had a 2001, it almost certainly had 4251-20s. They had already discontinued the Chevron by then. The chevrons are from the 4208 era.
Those 4051s sound healthy. I wonder if it could be possible to switch out the incandescent bulbs of the 4050-80s with LED bulbs if the old bulbs burn out? I know it can be done with Space Age flashers, so it wouldn't surprise me if it can be done.
Those later 4050-80 plates (with the shorter lens and, in many cases, black "FIRE" lettering as seen here) use the exact same incandescent bulbs as the Simplex 2903 light plates and the Space Age AV32 light plates.
I'm a fan of these videos however I'm curious as to why the video mainly focuses on the floor as you walk from device to device why not show where you're at? Just a suggestion, how about adding some commentary such as the specifics of the system and some specific field devices being tested, pros and cons of said system, problems you've encountered with the FA system and how you overcame them, ect. Have you made any videos troubleshooting, personally that is what I would be more interested in. I'm fortunate as I will be attending a Simplex 4100ES class in October all the way across the country in Charlotte, NC (I'm in Alaska). Looking forward to it. Anyhow keep your videos coming.
For Privacy reasons. Some places are private Agencies and Business Facilities. And If he were to be caught, he can Get in a massive amount of trouble, so he films the floor (And sometimes, the devices) to ensure that privacy
Darcy Walker Taylor I believe they don’t do this because the 4050 runs on ac while the 4050-80 runs on dc. I could be wrong tho. I saw new age server alarm somehow do it in an old video.
do u wear ear proction safetech because if not your going to have hearning loss testig those it may be fine now but when you get older you will be wearning hearning aids be cafeful wears ear plugs
