Whoa, an EST system! All the new schools built in my city since the late 90s use EST voice-evac systems, and I remember Simplex servicing them at one time (I distinctly remember on a day in 2008 they were testing the alarm system at one of the schools, and a SimplexGrinnell van was parked in the school's lot.)
@@alexandersalarms5380 It sure is. I have seen a TON of EST systems in Boston. Though Simplex, Notifier and Gamewell-FCI are also pretty common in Boston, but EST is definitely more prominent in Boston than in my hometown of Brockton. But I wouldn't be surprised if my high school's new fire alarm system is EST once they go forward with the expansion and renovation plan.
@@alexandersalarms5380 Here in Brockton MA we've got a bunch of Notifier systems. My college campus has them, and several of our public schools now have Notifier systems (usually voice-evac), the mall uses Notifier, and the baseball stadium I work as their mascot performer for has a Notifier system as well.
I noticed in most pull stations the break rod is either not in place or is broken. ive noticed this in various videos of your simplex systems too. Is it not your guys job to fix that?
We had these fire alarms at my old job. Am I the only person who hears the little chirp before they sound? Like it sounds like power going to the speaker or something right before they go off
American 015 I think school has EST horn strobes (with the cricket horn), and Edwards pull-stations, and 1 crappy knock off General electric version of a Edwards pull station.
I believe that is trquired by fire safety and code standards. That way, for example, if a fire occurs on the third floor of a building, you don’t have to wait to get to the first floor or basement to activate the alarm. It may not seem like much, but it can actually alert the fire floor much faster. By the time you get all the way downstairs, that may be five minutes wasted when you could have set the alarms off on the fire floor and alert everyone to get out. I hope that helps.
We had these alarms in my high school but they were white and my job now at a medical center has them. Does anyone know why you can hear that little chirp right before they start to sound?
It’s likely to do with the electronics charging up and sending some power to the horn, much like when you turn on any other speaker and it makes a little pop. It could also be another component in the circuit making that noise, such as a capacitor, which is what causes the clicking noise of the strobe as well. I had the integrity horn/strobes at my elementary school, and that little noise before they sounded was a live-saver! I somehow always knew what the noise was when I heard it, and braced. However, I remember sometimes hearing similar noises, such as a pencil being tapped on a desk, ducking and covering my ears unexpectedly. I always got weird looks from people around me when I accidentally did that.😂
Just curious, did you have permission to pull the alarm or use the keys? Unless you have authorized clearance, you can be charged with a crime for pulling a fire alarm.
He's a technician working for Simplex testing this building's alarms to make sure it works properly. Or did you really think he goes into a random building with a long pole with fake smoke on one end just for shits and giggles?
I hate the sound of the genesis and that is what I have to deal with during fire drills in school in the past because they put in the Genesis series of fire alarms in my schools. And I would go outside before the fire alarm system goes off in my schools sometimes so I wouldn’t have to hear the Genesis horns sound because they are so loud and hurt my ears I am surprised that I am not deaf after all of the EST Genesis fire drills I had in school in recent years because they are very loud alarms.
All of them were likely set on high-volume in your schools so that is why I think it was so loud I think if they were on Low-volume it would not be too loud at all
My previous high school had the same fire alarm. The est Genesis sounds so awesome. Wheelock mt id not survive if I had to do field work on a system with that kind of alarm frirnd
I've never understood this to be honest: you're supposedly a technician working directly for Simplex and ONLY Simplex, right? If that's the case, then why are you being assigned to work on these NON-Simplex systems?
they should likely set those ones to a low volume if it's already on it's lowest volume it can do or if the volume is fixed and can't be changed then avoid using those alarms and be using different alarms that can be quieter but not too quiet and not too loud
I have these in my school and have not been through a drill yet. My elementary school had the integrity, and it sounded like someone shouting at the top of their lungs an inch from my ear. Should I be afraid of these newer devices?
I haven’t heard these in person. But lot’s of people say they’re ear piercing. However, people hear differently. But, it’s pretty high pitched. So, yes you probably should.
My elementary and junior high school had these EST genesis fire alarms but except they didn’t say fire on them and the ones at my elementary school were white. There was also an EST Integrety outside the riser room on the exterior that was next to the playground so when we were at recess and they did fire drills we would hear the Integrety go off and then we would just go out the gate. They used to scare me all the time too when we would have drills
Very thankful our UNI put remote strobes in the class and horns in the hall. The one time I did deal with these horns it felt like a nail being driven into my ear when I was next to it (diagnosed with SPD at a young age)
At minimum they are to be 5ft from each exit. This video is edited to reduce the amount of time seen walking to each device/doing other stuff people find less interesting .
Mine has an EST IRC-3 system, with a Bosch panel that replaced the original CM2N module. With consolidation plans in the next few years, I may not know what will happen to the system.

0:35 i really hate that alarm model is so loud 😠. in my school they installed these alarms, it used to be a bell instead these are more loud than the older one.
