That is a slap in the face to every fire fighter who shows up to mourn the loss.

I worked for the State of Colorado and the higher ups always use comp time but never want it charged to them. So when they retire there paid for all comp time. I got in trouble because I questioned my boss, but all higher up went to Rookies game but did use any comp. time. This is when the escalator broke hurting people so if they would been hurt or killed the tax payers would be paying them out because they don’t use comp. time. It’s about time someone looking into this. Lower employee use there comp. time and sometimes get in trouble because a family issue, while the higher ups use time but don’t take time away so there paid out when the retire.

You know who’s in charge of over seeing escalator inspections? Desmond Fulton. True story. That explains that one.

What is comp time? I work for a private company and we don’t have some BS code to charge more. Why public employees do? WTF!

I am sure this goes on in every department all across the country! I saw it for years in Maryland!

I don’t think any public servant, cops or firefighters, should be paid to attend a funeral or memorial service. If you aren’t there for your friend and colleague, you’re there for yourself.

Billing out comp time is "best practice" , because other fire chiefs have done it in the past?

And we all know how the investigation will turn out. No violation. Carry on.

I would travel to every Marine Corps service, if I got paid for it.

Like it or not, there is nothing illegal or immoral about this practice. It's a normal fact of life with 'exempt' paid employees. They' are excluded from overtime pay because the get a upper level salary, but are 'compensated????' by time off, hour by hour, for expected appearances/work, etc. The law's term 'compensation' in virtually every case it is used, specifically means 'monetary' compensation. If someone gets butthurt because they 'feel' it's immoral to take time off to take time away from your family and your own life to show respect for others, so be it. That's just a personal opinion. Someone else wants his job, or just wants to create hate for some other personal issues.

How bout a deep dive on all the $$$/programs for migrants/homeless and the no bid, patronage contracts offered to connected political operatives who are setting up a perpetual hand out program that reduces critical services, police, EMT, libraries, etc etc ...

I dont see a problem. The chief is obligated to attend the funeral and assist with the funeral. Why would they not be compensated.

That funeral wasn’t the only incident.
