Fire Drill At School & Alarm Malfunction

During this fire drill at school, something weird happened to the Truealerts in the remodeled part of the building. The old zones worked just fine, however in the new zone (only about 6 years old) the Truealerts were pulsing on and off very sporadically. The strobes were not flashing during the periods the horns were off, so this leads me to think there is some sort of problem with the module running the new Truealerts, since while those are off you can still hear the older areas running perfectly fine. Whatever the issue is, enjoy the video. I thought it was a fun drill getting to hear the old and the new areas of the building.
Oh and a side note, there are a ton of Truealerts in the front area of the school and they were all set to high volume, so that part of the drill was L O U D. The 9838s were pretty quiet, however.

Since everyone seems to be wondering: the alarms in 20BPM March Time is the intercom system. My school has a very outdated fire alarm system, and there are only alarms in the hallways. The classrooms have no alarms at all, not even strobes. The horns in the hallways are very far apart and additionally are quiet due to how raspy they are. Thus, the alarms are almost impossible to hear in the classrooms, reason why the intercom system activates with the alarms. When the fire alarm panel activates the alarms, it sends a signal to the intercom to play the horn tone over the speakers.

I inspected an elementary school that tied the alarms to the PA

So the way they got the Simplex 2901-9838 Horn sound to play over the Intercom was by recording the sound of a Simplex 2901-9838 from another school in their district because the alarms at this school all do continuous and then importing the recording into the Intercom system, and connecting the fire alarm system to the Intercom so the panel's control modules set off the recorded sound which is achieved by programming it to a trip when power comes into an audio zone on the Intercom

@@joeycaridi3030 i dont think the school recorded it, im pretty sure the hardware they bought for the PA system came with the file. But yes its wired to the panel so when the alarms go off it automatically triggers the PA override feature

Ouch! The noise would hurt my ears big time. Luckily we have voice evacuation where I work at. Why can’t they just mandate that? Voice messages not only make the system quieter but they can still alert people pretty well. Horns are worthless in my opinion.

I'm reading the comments and it's really interesting that the intercom system also goes off with that marchtime sound when the fire alarm goes off. Also weird with the TruAlerts. At first I thought it was California Code, so I timed it mentally and yes, it's too sporadic to be CC. Did your school fix the issue? Personal story: We have a horn-strobe system in the apartments where I live, and usually it does Code-3 but once one of our buildings went off from water and just went into random beeping and crazy flashing. Water is a huge problem when it touches electronics. "Thanks, Captain Obvious."

The intercom system goes off because the horns are too quiet to be heard inside the classrooms, and there are also no strobes in the rooms either. Also the alarms have not been fixed, they’ve done this since i started attending this school and have done it in every fire drill ive been in there

The 20BPM is the intercom playing a honking sound, i have no idea what they recorded that was making that noise but it was some sort of horn.

@@SirenDude1003 It seems like they literally made a recording of one of the other -9838's (sounds like they're on FWR), and looped it at 20 BPM.

Theres lots of tru alerts in my middle school. The funny thing is, when they do fire drills, they never go off!

If that is a Malfunction it could be a 4009 cycling. They will do that if the120v feed has voltage drop, I always run #12 wire and only put 2 per a power feed for that reason.

The ones in the new section with the TrueAlerts should be doing code-3. Do you know what the panel is?

I do not know. The standard on older and grandfathered systems in this area is continuous.

I dont think they are, the pattern is too sporadic. California code is usually something like 10 seconds on and 5 seconds off, whereas these alarms follow no pattern at all and sometimes are on for 15 seconds, sometimes on for 5 seconds. My only idea is that the sync module is malfunctioning.
