Update from Fire Maple 1. The handle is coated with PVC instead of Silicone 2. The TPE lid is food grade, but not BPA FREE, actually till now, only Tritan is proved to be BPA FREE plastic. Other plastic are not BPA FREE.

I have had this set up for a good couple of years I use this pot with the Fire Maple Titanium Stove FMS-117T @ 103 g The pot is 190 g So my setup is 290 g, which is very light I use the stove on low volume so it uses very low gas as apposed to high gas If you put your hands next to the pot there is no heat loss to the air it is straight into the pot So the boil is slower but the gas usage is minimal So a large canister lasts for weeks with real cooking I also made a cosy for the pot, so I boil food and leave it to slow cook

Nice review Mark. I like what you did to the lid. I have an Olicamp XTS pot, and have been fiddleing with it for years. They are nearly identical. This style pot is a race car when you match it up with the right size isobutane, and works well with alcohol stoves too. The trick is to match it up the base ring with the support arms on the stove or stand. Head space is crucial for true speed or efficiency. Too close and you choke it out. Too far away and is slows down. Bottom line is that it works great and the lid can be reworked or replaced if needed (through Olicamp). I am on my original lid, but I really baby it. When I was a Scout leader, we used to race boil times with 500ml/16oz...this was Always as fast as a Jetboil in real life. Thanks again for your vids.

Yes, the similarity to the Olicamp is one of the reasons I asked for it. I agree, with a bit of testing this is hard to beat. Thanks for commenting

Thanks for the review, Mark. I own the pot as well. The only thing I don't like about it is the plastic top. It has hardened and discolored over time. I do like the pot. I have similar results in terms of boil times. I wish they made an aluminium top for it. It would be excellent rather than just good.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft Yes please, as a greater volume of water could provide water for a rehdratable meal and a drink at the same time. Or, that is; a drink whilst awaiting for the boiled water to soak in to the rehidateable meal. Like many others I always enjoy your content, and am very grateful for your passing on your useful findings. Take care Best regards Colin

My only concern with using this pot over a wood fire would be to use only hardwoods. Out here, we have primarily softwoods - pine, spruce, etc. I would expect the heat exchanger to be cool enough to cause the pitch in the coniferous wood to condense out inside the fins and quickly plug them up.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft Год назад
I agree, the more I think about it, the less I want to burn wood for that reason. I may consider wood pellets in a wood gas stove. Thanks for commenting

G'day Mark, not bad mate, concur 1 L is a good size to do most things without going overboard. I reckon the heat exchanger does make sense, but for me personally, I'm questioning whether I really need that feature. Cant say I'm a fan of plastics of any description around flames, though that lid would be very good for transporting food or other kit inside, but then you're left with no metal lid to cook with. I do like that Fire Maple offer a range of options depending on your MO/preference, and decent quality at fair prices too; like the look of the Alti 900 ml Ti pot & lid and the Antarti 1 L stainless pot/lid without the exchanger as a couple of examples. Cheers Duke.

Hello Duke. I am revising my suggestion about using this with fire. I expect the fins will get fouled up with smoke residue. I have a number of other Fire Maple items coming for review as well. Great value gear for sure. Thanks for commenting

I suppose that lid is great at keeping things secured inside during travel, but I would rather have an easier to remove lid while boiling. I have a 1.8 liter heat exchanger pot; a smaller one would be handy. Mine drips water down the side of the pot every time I do a pour over coffee. I wish it had a bit of a lip.

To avoid the dripping you can use anything like a spoon or stick pressed up against the lip of the pot and descending in the direction you want the water to go. Surface tension helps guide líquids.

I've tried running these experiments to see how long a stove and pot will boil. Problem is there are far too many variables to control. The pressure of the fuel in the can changes as the can is depleted, changing the gas output at any given valve setting, making it impossible to know how to set the valve, then, how can you really be sure you are setting the valve the same way even if you use a new gas on each attempt. The temperature of the gas also impacts the gas pressure and probably also the barometric pressure. Starting water temperature is another variables. Some day, someone will do a large, well controlled study.

I would love to see a comparison between this pot and the larger 1.5l heat exchanger pot. I'm wondering if the wider base of the larger pot will capture the heat better than the narrower pot. And see if it is enough to make any measurable difference. I also do winter camping in the Sierras and just bought a Firemaple remote canister stove with preheat tube. I see Firemaple saying their Polaris pressure regulator stoves work great in cold weather. I'd love to know if the Polaris regulator is better in freezing temps that the preheat tube types? Thanks

Just so I am clear, you would like me to compare the smaller Fire Maple pot with the Larger Fire Maple pot to see if the diameter will make a difference? I have used a Bulin HE pot on a wood stove....seemed to work ok. But after 4 or 5 burns I think you lose a lot of efficiency due to the exchanger fins getting all sooted up....and let me tell you, it's no treat trying to get that crap out of the fins, not worth it in my opinion. @@MarkYoungBushcraft is the hole on the bottom of the stove big enough that you could potentially put the stove directly on a side ported alcohol stove. Looks like you could potentially even put it directly on a trangia... Might not be the most efficient that way.

Garbage ....I did 3 separate boil tests between this pot and my 1100ml Toaks titanium pot with .5 liter of water and there was no difference between the boil times. This was using a Soto Windmaster stove. Not worth the money as a heat exchanger pot over my Toaks, especially for the weight penalty....
