Yeah they would be called in that case for sure, I’m sure there’s other reasons (that I don’t know) that the fire department may show up if there are other types of emergencies or inspections they have to do

@@Jamestube8439If I'm being the correct fire department will only be called if someone actually calls 911 or if the fire alarm goes off, either by someone pulling it or smoke tripping a smoke detector.

@@Sparkette Oh, well in that case, the button is for emergencies, there is a key switch at the bottom of the car operating panel for run/stop, I was actually there the other day to do a Run/Stop Key Switch Demo and an Inspection Demo too, I will upload it later on.

Jamestube 8439 No, my point is that if it's for emergencies, shouldn't it be usable without a key?

@@Sparkette Well firefighters need it to stop the elevator if it getting to close to the fire floor or need it to stop, but I think all elevators should have an emergency stop switch which sounds the alarm and a keyed stop switch which is to take the elevator out of service.

Yeah that was my first time doing, if you ever want to, make sure you get permission from the owner so that way you don't get caught.

@@noahharris2260 Cool, I've done floor lockouts too and I've also visited restricted floors with permission. It makes life so much better when people ask for permission before doing things like that. I see a few people who don't get permission and it's terrible because sooner or later they will probably get caught.

Yes, I wanted to ride a locked off elevator but the staff said that the elevator was for staff only.

It very well could. Most buildings have the elevator recall tied to the fire alarm panel in some way. If a smoke detector in the elevator lobby or machine room is activated, phase 1 elevator recall automatically initiates. In the same way, the alarm panel can monitor the elevator to where if recall is manually activated, it can trigger a supervisory or trouble condition on the panel, which is monitored. From there, the fire department, or at least building maintenance, will be called to respond to the abnormal condition on the panel.

I don't know for sure, but I'll bet when phase 1 gets turned off, phase 2 also goes off. That would be my guess since I have tried turning phase 2 on while phase 1 is off. I'll have to try it someday.

Phase 2 remains activated for that specific elevator.

Most of that is true, however the elevators are not ever turned off unless a heat detector activates causing the shunt trip to turn off the elevator, that's why firefighters should forcible tools with them when using the elevators, if it were to shunt trip, the elevator would shut down and not work at all, they would have to break out of it. But if there is no shunt trip, then the elevators may be in fire service or have not been activated in fire service.

@@Jamestube8439 Personally, I think there should be some sort of emergency forcible tools accessible to elevator passengers so should there be high heat (no smoke) in the elevator control room and the elevator shunt trips with passengers on board, they can get out. And of course, just so no one messes with the tools if there's no emergency, it can be a federal crime

@@flightlevel3608 I agree with that, I do think in a very very dangerous situation there should be some kind of emergency release to release the door and some way to allow trapped passengers to escape

When you turn the inspection key switch on in the elevator, you can use that access up and down switch to move the elevator up and down with the doors open, whether to access the shaft or access the car top, that’s typically what it’s used for

That's right, and make sure if you do want to attempt that you have permission, don't do this without permission, if you get caught, it won't look good at all...

Yes, owning keys are legal, using them without permission could be considered illegal. (Depending on what you're doing, for example accessing locked floors is considered trespassing) Owning keys is ok for collection purposes, I only use them with permission.

@@Jamestube8439 Correct oh dear, it seems like it is wall of text o clock for me... and what may be the weirdest thing about firemans service where i live, is that usually there is only 1 elevator in the building that has firemans service, and in low rise buildings there may not even be an elevator with firemans service (all modern elevators where i live do have an automatic fire recall which is linked to the fire alarm, for example the main elevators at the college i went to back in 2018/19 (whoops, nearly gave away my location) would automatically return to either the ground or first floor if the fire alarm went off (and that is if the fire alarm was set off from any detector or manually set off from anywhere), i remember when the right hand one wasnt working, and there was what i can only assume was a fire drill, the left hand elevator would have returned to one of the two designated floors, and i know from later that day that the right hand one had gone into recall mode, athough as it wasnt working it just sat there buzzing (the elevators at that college would break down what felt like every other week, one week elevator 1 would be broken, and after elevator 1 was fixed, elevator 2 would break down later in the same week that elevator 1 was fixed, and once elevator 2 was fixed elevator 1 would then break down later that week)

Ah, good question, I have tried that but no, it doesn't work from inside, you must do phase 1 first, but I mean that would be a good idea for some newer elevators, good question by the way and thanks for watching!

That’s awesome! I’ve gotten a few opportunities in the past to look at hoistways, but the fact that the technician not only showed you that and allowed you to do fire service is really generous! That’s really cool!

Nope, because why would it contact emergency services if the fire department is using the elevator in fire fighters' operation. It would be pointless, however there are times where smoke alarms for elevators are hooked up to the fire alarm panels themselves. That then could be a possible situation in which the fire department would be notified.

In some buildings, elevator fire recall may be tied into the fire alarm panel and when activated, it may trip a supervisory condition and alert the monitoring company, which then could have the FD dispatched. That happened one time in the Prudential building in Boston, MA when EMTs were using fireman service instead of medical emergency service. I definitely think that anyone who wires that switch to trip a supervisory is doing it wrong as many states require a monthly test of fireman service to be done by authorized personnel and that particular setup would conflict with their ability to test it.
