I think the guy with the fire extinguisher was the pub owner or a customer didn’t want his beloved local pub to burn to the ground

One of the ladies commenting asked ' why only 1 guy fighting the fire ?' He was the only guy left and did the right thing fighting the fire from outside with the Hose Reel whilst the Breathing Apparatus Team ( which must be a minimum of 2 people ) were getting ready and getting under air . The Officer on Charge of the Pump had gone inside the pub to try and see where the fire had originated and what the layout was . the driver / pump operator had to put on his fire kit ( cant drive with it on ) , work the pump and send any Informative Messages back to Control . Once the second pump arrived operations stepped up a gear . Good job from the Fire Service and they soon knocked the fire back . What was unfortunate were the actions of some of the public . The cyclist did a good job telling the van driver what was happening , but then spoilt it by riding against oncoming traffic . Plenty of bystanders , but no one seemed to offer to direct traffic away from the scene . The van driver must have seen what was going on , but still wanted to turn right . The driver of the black car tried to drive straight on as the Firefighter was trying to open up the hydrant , but once hoses were in place they finally realised they were not going to get passed . Sorry to be critical , but a bit of forward vision and common sense from the public wouldn't have gone a miss .

Scooby1 You can tell a lot about people at scenes like this, no matter what country it’s in. Unfortunately lack of common sense seems to prevail all too often
@scooby1992
@scooby1992 5 лет назад
I agree . A lack of common sense compounded by the human factor of wanting to see what is going on and trying to get a better look . Not a problem but it can sometimes hinder emergency services ( unintentionally ) and out people in danger they don't realise .

@scooby1992
@scooby1992 8 месяцев назад
I assume they had been called for . Watching a video everything always seems to take ages when it is only a short time really . It would have been nice if someone in the crowd had perhaps used their initiative and stepped in to direct traffic and people away . I dont mean a young mother with children to keep an eye on or an old person with mobility issues , but in a crowd that size I would be surprised if there wasnt an off duty or ex military person or off duty firefighter , paramedic or cop . Another thing I noticed was the family who walked right behind and close to the second Fire appliance to cross the road . I know there was no physical barrier or tape to stop them but a bit of common sense would tell you perhaps to cross a bit further away instead of walking over hoses or where firefighters need to move quickly and could do without watching out for members of the public .

One thing I love and respect with UK Firefighting is how quick the initial attack is. In this video it's pretty much instantaneous and has a quick knock down. The US approach seems to be spend 6 minutes getting a hydrant and 2½-inch hose line in position while recklessly ventilating the building... Hosereel speed vs layflat flow. Criticisms here, both drivers could do a better job fending off- you can see it's a working job we know traffic will try to squeeze through and be a pain in the arse so fend off aggressively, close the road and create a safer working area. BA Wearers remember your lids when you dismount! We know you're about to get committed so you're holding your helmet ready to start-up but don't wander up to the building where you could catch a roof tile on your noggin or be in the blast zone. Covering jet would be nice to see too.

@@DS-kx2vk SOPs differ from nation to nation & between agencies. To say the LFB lacks courage is absurd. Putting water in the fire ASAP is generally a good idea. They may have kept the fire contained to the front 1st floor room. (1st floor is the one above the ground floor in UK). On the other hand, your point is taken as it is imperative to conduct a primary search as soon as possible before filling the structure with smoke & steam. This is why many agencies (ie, FDNY) tend to attack structural fire from the interior whenever it's reasonably safe to do so. This results in an immediate search by the hose team of the approach to the fire area & prevents pushing fire, steam & the products of combustion farther into the building. Nice work here by the initial attack crew.

The crew were busy putting the patient on board and doing CPR , using a defib and getting IV access . there were only two of them at that point and didnt have anyone spare to move the ambulance ( which would be done as soon as they could ) .

Someone has suggested to me that the first pump could well be from a single pump station, and therefore boasts a full compliment of ladders; whereas the second pump on-scene is maybe from a two pump station, and therefore doesn't carry a full set as the pump will have their compliment too. 🤷‍♂️ Something else I did notice was that the 2nd pump has a stem-light on the rear of the left side, like I've seen on the mark 3 Ategos. And the stem-light at the front, near the cab in front of the small ladders gantry, is indicative of LFB's mark 2s. And you can tell that the first appliance is indeed a mark 2. Rene Zellmer why do they need an ambulance, all fire fighters are first aid trained and can call one if required
@scooby1992
@scooby1992 8 месяцев назад
An ambulance will only be sent automatically if the fire is what is known as a ' persons reported '. If it isnt they will have to request one if needed . The UK ambulance service is massively overstretched so the days of sending one just in case have gone . In the late 1980s/early 1990s an ambulance used to be sent to Automatic Fire Alarms at hospitals and care homes ( as well as the Fire Service ) , but that cant realistically be done now .

jonroyo Fifteen seconds- that would be a world record. There are tens of thousands of fire departments in the US. Some are paid depts, most volunteer. Some are great at what they do, some are not. Everyone who watches videos like these should keep an open mind, much of what’s being done you can’t see. God speed for all the worlds fire fighters
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 5 лет назад
@@davidweston6653 15 to 45 seconds is indeed a realistic time at some departments, depending on the unit and its layout. First attack would be with a attack hose reel (guess it's also known as booster hose or booster reel) while the others set up a normal attack hose, if necessary supply hose etc

@Supermarine-iv1tb 5 лет назад
Not sure where you’re from but in the UK you don’t just make entry, on arrival crews get to work plumbing hydrants and such to ensure a constant water supply from the pump before entry, and at the same time a plan of action is made by the OIC after the 360 evaluation, only then and if considered safe will BA crews enter
@stevedudeney8562
@stevedudeney8562 4 года назад
2:48 the BA crew go in and start the interior attack. As you witnessed, the transitional attack, using a line straight from the tank knocked a lot of the fire back and saved further spread inside. UL with some progressive FD's in North America (Such as FDNY) have been doing a lot of work on this type of fire attack. But I concede more solid building construction in Europe makes this more viable as their is less of a risk of pusing fire into voids etc.
@CymruEmergencyResponder

Yes, they do, but they don’t believe in stupidity (like solo firefighters wandering into structures with no BA entry control). BA crews work in pairs always.

Oh Kevin I wish you was my guvnor. Not. U.k firefighters regardless of what brother Kevin says you do a great job and haven't let anyone down. Come on kevin show some support for your fellow brothers/sisters. Your watching a very small snippet of this incident and whilst I do agree crew safety is paramount I think to criticise fellow firefighters to be unacceptable and I'm sure after your 33 years of dedicated service appreciate that different brigades have different tactics and I have absolute faith that after the hydrant etc was made into that the focus would of then turned to tape of the road etc. Good job guys. I'm sure brother Kevin will be hanging his boots up soon if he hasn't already. I wish you a happy retirement sat in your armchair surrounded by barrier tape ;)
@kevinhancock8157
@kevinhancock8157 5 лет назад
@@beardmore99 not a case of different brigades do different procedures safety is safety not ifs or buts .if anyone's injured the buck stops at the oic plain and simple .So the oic should no better and so should the pump operator who should of coned off the exit for his own safety let alone the crews safety.

Bore of Kevin. Hes getting a water supply for his muckers to help save savable property. Then promptly move onto coneing of I'm sure. If your so wound up by it I suggest you make a report to hse about it. Well done lfb. Great stop. Rather than turn into a full roof alight you managed to get this under control within 6 mins of this video. Unfortently in Kevin's brigade they are still busy filling out aras and explaining to the pub owner why his roof is fully engulfed.
