the fallout lore includes the fact that the world has basically run out of patroleum. I always assumed that's why the AR had wood furniture. Limited resources.
There's plenty of other metal works and gun munfuctaring going on (i.e. the Gun Runners), I think the point is that the Service Rifle is made by the NCR, who's infamously stretched thin and probably trying to crank out the cheapest AR possible hence the wood and stamped metal IIRC there's even a terminal entry or something like that referencing the fact they found old pre war ARs and replaced the polymer etc. with the wood parts.
The terrifying moment when you realize that all the Red Rocket stations don't sell you new radioactive fuel. They sell you more COOLANT for the nuclear reactor in your car. You really, really don't want to run out of "gas" in Fallout. (Fallout 3+, anyway. I think there was a gasoline car in the old Fallouts?)
I just thought it was for aesthetics. The rangers were always about old fashioned revolvers and repeaters, figured they didn't want infantry to have fancier stuff.
Should've done the scene from MGS4 where Snake gets the M4 and checks its functioning (I'd also love to see an MGS3 episode, particularly Snake's extensive breakdown of his M1911 (and also Ocelot's weird detachable revolver stock thing)).
Let me suggest ArmA 3: SOG Prairie Fire again! ASide from the unique SOG weapons, there's a certain Australian SASR modded L1A1 I'd really like to see Jonathan talking about...
@@North_Dumpling Rising Storm 2 is great. Prairie Fire has a niche in Vietnam-era special forces and unique toys rarely seen outside of it. For Australia, It has both of those, the Owen and the F1, but also the integrally suppressed L34A1, including one with an XM148 GL (also in L1A1s), and especially the one I mentioned above... the infamous SASR full auto shorty L1A1, with a very special nickname.
Perfect Dark on the N64 does in fact reference to Goldeneye (James Bond) N64 game. By having the said weapon in the game (which you have to complete challenges at the HQ).
As an FMF Corpsman, I carried an M4 in Iraq. I loved that little rifle! Lightweight, handy, & accurate. If I ever have to face combat again, I wouldn't want any other rifle.
Having played A LOT of destiny 2, it very much does differ from the real life gun but i think it's because there's a standard reload animation for auto rifles (that class of weapon in the game) and that reload doesn't follow the irl way that gun would be cocked. Some guns have unique reload animations (mostly exotics) but since the khvostov is The Starter Gun (literally the first one you get) they didn't give it unique animations. It's coming back with an exotic version soon so maybe they'll fix it there which would be cool, who knows.
I don't know if you guys can edit already uploaded videos, but the Payday 2 segment doesn't show the AMR-16 (which is based on the M16A1, IIRC). Instead it shows the AMCAR rifle (which, as Jonathan pointed out, is indeed based on the Colt Model 733).
Would love to see Jonathan do Ghosts of Tabor’s weapons. They are modeled impeccably from what I can tell and entirely by veterans. The mechanics are also insane.
I just want to let you know that I really enjoyed spectating that M16A2 E1 Also love how Destiny 2 once again broke Jonathan. He should really play that at some point, it's got such good gunplay!
I believe a CS2 video is warranted actually, not only for the M4(s) tho those have been improved, specially the M4A1-S. Sounds have been changed as well, might be something else worth checking out.
Heck ya! More BLACK please. Now more eager to see Mr. Ferguson talk about it since he never got to play the masterpiece that it is back in the day. Good times.
My best friend and I got so skilled with the 203 grenades playing America's Army back in the day. We could hit a fly from across the map by eyeballing it😂👍
You Guy's should get him to check out: Killzone Series for helical mags and bullpups The Order 1886 for Steampunk guns and old lesser known guns From this video definitely he should look at Black
Destiny 2 is kinda infamous for guns that just cannot work without shrugging and going "Space magic" I'd love to see Jonathan react to the Conspirator scout rifle.
For future breakdowns like this, the year of release should be included in the card for each episode given how much JF mentions the age of the game within his breakdowns. For a part 2 of the same subject, I'd like to see SWAT4 and Homefront 2 included, since have officially licensed (!) examples. 55th week asking for Bullet Girls Phantasia episode, 31st week of asking for loadout on games (not) keeping track of round in chamber.
Id like to see this for the scar platform of rifles (H and L). Games to get footage from may include: Escape from tarkov (has both) Mw2 (og) for H mw3 (og) for L Operation flashpoint dragons rising (has both) Insurgency sandstorm (for H). Love you guys vids ❤❤
I love how the AMR-16 stock puzzled Jonathan, maybe because he does not know much about nerf guns while im a gun and nerf nerd... So it seemed very familiar as I have had my hands on a gel m4 many times, and that stock attachment looks exactly like it. So pulling the latch down disconnects the stock and reveals a n-strike attachment point. Unlikely/impossible that the seam is for folding as the folding mech would be different. I suspect the designers just took some toy m4 and drew it on while making it look a bit less like a toy. Entertaining to see Jonathan be confused
I mean I remember hearing now I don't know if it's 100% true but I wouldn't put it past them, US Ordinance department didn't like the M16s as they had their M14s which lets be honest, was what the M1 was supposed to be but wasn't in WW2. But they apparently sabotaged guns, didn't supply cleaning kits and supplied ball ammo and not the FMJ they were supposed to use, hence lots of mechanical failures happened in Vietnam, once it was cleared up the M16s ran fine and well and the M14 was effectively dropped as the standard rifle, has been used in more niche rolls but it was effectively forgotten about in the end.
My favourite assault rifle is the M16a1 with the M203 grenade launcher from ScarFace also the Car-15 (M16a1) from Blood Diamond not video games but great movies
Real, not necessarily modern. The vast majority of real guns are cowboy guns or WWII, like the Browning Hi-Power M1911, Grease Gun, BAR, Garand etc etc with the LMG being a fusion of a M60 and a M249 (iirc). The Grenade Rifle and Grenade Launcher were the M-79 and China Lake respectively, so Vietnam era. Only really the Assault and Marksman Carbines are that modern, and imho I never liked them, they felt out of place to me
Rage, The Order 1886, and Singularity are all games I would love to see Johnathan react to the weapons of. Rage for its interesting weapon variants like the crossbow, the settlers pistol, and the dlc nailgun with the multiple ammo types. The Order 1886 for its alternate timeline steampunk weaponry. Singularity for its futuristic alternate timeline weapon variants with the time manipulation tech mixed in.
minor nitpick Bethesda only published New Vegas it was developed by Obsidian which was founded by a some of the people from Black Isle Studio (who made fallout 2)
Bit of a weird request but I'd love to see Johnathan break down some of the modded guns available in Stalker: Anomaly. There's alot of different modded guns avaliable in the game.
I saw a tactical Winchester 94 30-30 with composite furniture and the M4 style collapsing stock, supressor and picatinny rail w an optic. So an m16 with wood furniture isn't that absurd.
FYI in regards to wood furniture fit AR rifles, several companies have made walnut and laminate stocks/foreends fire ends for a good while now. Boyd’s is the first name to come to mind on it.
If you ever feel like going back to Destiny, should check out the original Gambit weapons that came out in Forsaken; all very early 1900s wood-and-iron construction
Can I recommend you get Jonathan to look at the guns of Homefront: The Revolution? Taking gun frame and on the fly switching parts to make new guns. I can hear him cringeing already ah
Looking at Tarkov and similar more realistic games, the thing that always kinda annoys me is how they model reloads. Yes, reloads do take a lot longer in reality than in CoD, but the way realism games tend to achieve that is just making a CoD reload lackadaisical rather than showing barely in frame motions of withdrawing a mag from a pouch and hurrying it to the gun. I know Insurgency has a speed load that does look good, but the retention reload should still be less carefree, imo
"We don't have a MK18 unfortunately." We feel your pain. I to don't have a MK18. Only an Aero with a lot Strike goodies on it. Yeah and as far as the wooden furniture for the NCR service rifle... guilty.☝️ and I don't care it's gorgeous like an old Ford Woddy that goes pew pew.
Not sure about the M16/M4 but with the GLA attachment on an F88 you kinda have to get good at eye balling it since it’s a side mounted sight on pretty awful rifle (making for an awkward positioning with buttstock and your shoulder). And if you’ve fired enough 40mm rounds it’s not hard to get extremely accurate with a GLA using just instinct 🤷🏼♂️
2 points: downloading a magazine is not to stop jams but rather to make loading onto a closed bolt easier (i.e. alleviating the mag slap) and is no one going to address the game need to manually charge every reload? if you partial reload there should be a round in the chamber, so no need and if you mag dump the bold hold open should be slapped rather than pulling the charging handle!
The battlefield 3 detail he mentions is a testament to how much the studio had of time and care for their games back then. Its not a neccesary thing but because it was a big studio they could do it.
i think it's also because BF developers were working really close with the US army so probably some nerd in there complained the AR he loves so much didn't look realistic enough
it's funny Jonathan should say that the tarkov M4 feels like it's pivoting off the wrist. Because due to a flaw in the way recoil works in the game that's exactly what's happening.
Jonathans recoil comment about tarkov is correct. It has pretty much been confirmed that the way recoil has been modelled in tarkov is as if you were holding a pistol. This wasn't all that noticeable when the recoil was relatively low (and imo more realistic) in the past but as an easy balancing solution developers have slowly increased recoil over the years to combat 0 recoil laser meta builds. This in turn caused stock and lightly modified guns to have this over the top recoil with almost unusable ironsights. Luckily a recoil rework was promised in the roadmap this year so hopefully this will be fixed.
