First impressions video was made...this video was filmed shortly after that one....and I still like the little 727S. And...just because of it I got a RAT 2

Very good video and knife test, I have a few Ganzo's 727m and Ganzo firebird 727s and I like them both for what they are and I agree with you on the 440 steel , Was tempted to get one in D2 to see how much of a difference it would make holding a working edge , but after watching this video I really don't see the need or want to spend more time working on a harder steel to get same workable edge . I enjoy sharpening and keeping my knives sharp but if I can do it in half the time on 440 than d2 , we'll that just means I can sharpen more knives in the same amount of time . Thanks again and enjoyed your content as a first time watcher of your channel .

Glad you enjoyed the video. For such knives I always look at the steel in the last place. 8cr…aus8, 440c or d2…all can be sharpened easily on inexpensive stones. What is more important for me is how erll does it “fit the part”. This is a smaller folder and ad such it does deliver what one would expect from it. I liked this model. Especially after i spent some time to fit it to my needs. I hope you find more interesting stuff here. Let me know! Have a great day! Denis

I have that exact knife I've abused the tip removing a staple from a piece of furniture the tip bent. When straightening the tip it broke, I reprofiled and reduced the edge angle. The 727s is one of my favorite knives!
@SpartanJohns

Cool! I abused this one a bit....but no "damage" yet. I had that with a 759 model....i stabbed it in a piece of wood to try and break the tip. it bend. but it was easy to bend back. I still have that knife.

Not sure which one...tha Peak or WASP. I think the Peak will be first...Honestly no the best Fit'nFinish but other than that....Just have to see how the steel will do. I have little experience with S90V

@@SpartanJohns I don't mind 30 minute videos but it does effect when I watch them , I don't always have the time to watch them in one sitting but will find time for content and channels I enjoy . Another channel I really enjoy but useauly only watch once in a while because of length of videos is Corporals Corner. Thanks again for another great video I really enjoyed it. Thanks

@@steellovingyou8673 I am happy when someone finds my videos entertaining and the content good. I am even more happy when someone can learn from my experiences. I am equally as happy when I learn from others i watch or my own viewers when they comment. Time, for me as well, is very limited. If I can manage to film and post 2 vids a week...that is about it for my youtube that week....I don't get to watch as many videos as I used to...I simply don't have the time. So...i watch 3 minute presentations and if i like something i might look for it when/if i have the time...so when people don't wathc my 30 min videos in 1 sitting or at all...i get it. As you said...I also watch people i like rather than look at the content. Most times for me...those 2 match up quite well...

Dude I dig seeing like actual use videos on knives, table tops are nice but most of them are first/biased impressions. I ordered this knife today, looking to see how I like it. I got it because it is similar to the Ontario Rat, but it has the cross bar lock. Thanks for doing your knife reviews this way, it just seems like a more honest review overall.
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns Год назад
I am glad you liked the video! I like first impressions videos however you have to keep in mind that some people are just trying to sell you stuff and others are very excited about the new knife they just acquired. I make my "first look/first cuts" videos in the hope that doing a few cut tests it will also show how a particular knife does in things you would cut in your day to day life. The RAT2 is a bit smaller and, imo, not as capable. I prefer the 440C to AUS8 or D2. And this one takes a Bugout deep carry pocket clip. I like the knife however....the handle is a bit short as I found out numerous times while playing with it. If you close the blade one handed using the crossbar lock and gravity,while resting the but of the knife in your hand, it might give you a little cut.

How do you measure your edge angles? You ofter mention the specific angle of an edge (before you have changed it). I always wonder how to measure that.
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns 2 года назад
OK....i just gave this answer. but your question is slightly different.... You said before I change them! For that I use the app on my phone. Put the knife with the back on a flat even surface and drag the edge of my phone(which gives me the tilt) on the edge of the knife. When it starts biting in i know the edge angle. Plus point #2 Now we are talking "NO MICROBEVEL" when we are talking #2. Here is the answer I gave on a different video: 1.To measure the edge angles on knives I use an app on my phone when I sharpen them. I measure the angle the blade is tilted relative to the stone. That gives me a pretty good reading. 2. To be sure, and because I have certain issues when it comes to knives, edge angles aso, I also measure the thickness of the grind at a certain distance from the apex. 1-1.5 mm depending on how wide the edge is. Knowing that I now know the opposite and adjacent cathetus. Measuring the hypotenuse is a bit tricky. So I rather not do that. I calculate it using the Pythagoran theorem. From then on, find out the edge angles is simple trigonometry. I realize that I cannot measure with 100% accuracy. But usually I am within 0.2-0.4 degrees between what I measure using the app on my phone and what I calculate. Sorry if I did not explain this very well, I did not study math in English
@danielsmit3524
@danielsmit3524 2 года назад
@@SpartanJohns thanks, English is also my second language, but I think I get what you're saying. More complicated than I anticipated. 😅 I think I will just keep eyeballing my edges to get them more or less where I want them. Probably less accurate, but has the benifit of not exposing how much of maths I have forgotten over the years. 🤷‍♂️🤣
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns 2 года назад
How you keep your edge angles is up to you! If it works for you that's all that counts. I do this because I test them and want to see what they do at 20, 17, 15, 12 dps...To me testing an edge to failure and then backing off to where, with my regular use, it takes no damage, is just a very interesting activity. The angle app on your phone is not that difficult. Just place your knife on it's back, hold it still and move the phone with the app started. when it starts cutting into your phone(phone cover) there it is! As for math...I know the math which is useful to me, my hobbies, my life...the rest I google! :))

Yes...I purchased a RAT 2 because of the 727S. I was curious. The RAT2 is smaller. D2 is nice...i like it. No problems there. But I also like Ganzo's 440C. From these 2 I prefer the 727S. Better grip and grind! Plus the standard RAT 2 has those "zytel=reinforced plastic"scales...the one on the 727S are much more to my liking

Friction will do that. Even with oil. Why do you think you put it clear oil in your car and black oil comes out when you change it. The question is: at what rate? Will you be able to wear out a significant amount of steel within 1-2-20 years? Let me know how it goes.
