I bought a Jayco trailer from CW, paying cash. After taking the trailer home (about 130 miles, I realized the sales manager failed to give me a bill of sale. When I called and asked about it, he said "I'll email it to by tomorrow". 2 weeks of the same excuse and I called the main office in KY. The store general manager called and asked why I called the main office and told me that only would slow things down. About a week later, I went back with a state trooper, my cancelled check and my lawyer. CW finally gave me the bill of sale and a check for $2500 for a "mistaken overcharge". With the trooper standing there, I demanded they cash my check. "We don't have that amount of cash on hand" and "go to your bank to cash it" was their answer. My attorney produced a court order to seize a $90K (new) motor home for collateral (attorney had gone to court as a precaution and judge agreed CW either produce or approved seizure). About 45 seconds later I had cash in hand, a second copy of my bill of sale (so I could register the trailer) and told never to step into that store again. Never have been back. The only thing I do with CW is use their elite club card at the Pilot/Flying J pumps for the 5cent/gallon discount when their price is decent.
did you thank them from banning you from their business. Did you inquire about what you did wrong to be banned? You forced them to treat you fairly. Kentucky State Police provide good service. Not available in blue states. Have to hold a gun to the dealer's head to get fair treatment. When you paid for the TT didn't you notice the $2500 overcharge? I wish I was that rich. I'd notice a 25 cent overcharge. So cheap I squeak.
I’ve been a salesman at camping world for 4 months. Doing well but all of the corruption is just now brought to my attention and I have a moral dilemma working here now! I’m very transparent and always honest with the customer. If you see this, PLEASE call or text me at 252-732-0855. I’d like to learn more and see if I need to get out!
Ive been with Rv dealerships including CW and he is incorrect on the prep of a unit. Ive been an internal advisor about 5 years meaning i work directly with sales through the service department. I inspect new units daily, submit warranty, estimate trade cost for deals, and execute the preps and add ons for deals. And ive done it for another dealership as well. If youre not sure about something when you buy a camper, find an INTERNAL ADVISOR to help you. They know sales and service.
The worse part. The Motor home is a 2019 New. We purchased last year 6/29/2020 NEW.Camping world neglected the motor home while sitting on their lot.Yesterday I received a voice call message blaming Thor for their neglect. I think i would love to tell my story. So much more...I am waiting for an additional call back as of now 7/10/2021.I have all the proof on neglect, pictures and videos. C/S management and Service treatment was horrific. Financing Cathy quit after a week of our purchase. She mentioned that they make money on loan and warranty. Wish I had her contact info
Wow!!! I just can't believe what I've just heard I am beside myself. Thank you from the bottom of my heart I learned some things that I did not know and I'm not a first time buyer I'm a second time buyer but I realize we went on a little trip. Thank you for what you do on this show I'm new to the show and I appreciate what I have heard I intend on sticking with you and keeping an eye on future things with you all. I'm going to save this video and show my wife we're getting ready to get our second RV and I need to be on the ball for that. But we won't be going to Camping World LOL thank you so much God bless
Allen has a great show, he's professional and obviously very knowledgeable. He kept the show, and the guests, focused and moving along at a perfect pace. Posing interesting questions and allowing the caller(s) to respond completely and not ramble or wonder off subject, is more difficult than you think! I will subscribe for sure. Thank you.
This are my "two cents"; Do not buy new RV's...., You can buy a two, Four even Ten yrs old campers that have been kept very well and come out ahead. I've been dealing personally with RV's since the 80's, to the point of living In them full time and doing all repairs my self. Also, in cases you will find RV's of over 30yrs Old that look and are kept so good mechanically, that they look like they just came out the "production line". Just "gotta" be patience on the "search".
My wife and I bought a new Whitewater Retro 17.5 about 3 years ago. We loved it for the first season. Then I noticed the floor getting soft and spongy. It just continued to get worse until I was afraid it would break through. The water pump had to be replaced, twice. The entire cook top began leaking gas and had to be replaced. The tires were cheap junk and had to be replaced. The drain valves for black water and gray water leaked and had to be replaced. We went on one camping trip where we had no water, no cooking, no toilet, and a spongy floor. Whitewater would not help us with anything but one water pump. I called the dealer I bought it from and they couldn’t help because they were no longer a Whitewater dealer. I took it to another dealer and they estimated $10,000 to fix the floor on a two year old camper that cost $18;000 new. Everything is fixed now, but on my $’s. I had a carpenter fix the floor for &250. He ripped out all of the un protected, un treated, cheap press board and replaced it with 3/4 inch marine grade plywood. What a cute, cheaply made camper. Now my retro is fixed to top standards, but without Whitewater’s help.
I am disputing a purchase I made with camping world in Tampa fl. Over 30 defects on a new unit. Most of this due to Neglect. Our motor home spent a year in and out of shops. Our warranty ended last month and the work is not finished. An information you can source to us would be appreciated
I'm ashamed to say I bought a rv travel trailer from CW. I paid top top dollar and very high interest. I'm not saying it's not my fault, I take full responsibility, I traded four guns and a citizen's watch as a down payment. After coming down from the high of getting my dream of an rv I read my contract, first thing I did was sell back my five year warranty, now my wife and I are trying to refinance it. I can afford the payments, it's just the long term outlook of how much I would be paying. I like the camper, now I can't use it because of the Corona virus. Yes i was a first time buyer. Won't happen again!!
I would say to Marcus..You give away mortor homes BUT you rip off every customer that walks through your door. What goes around comes around. You have to fight & keep fighting
I just want you to know, I am a person that is in the target market for Camping World. I am looking into RV's, and if it had not of been for you wonderful people willing to stand up and tell your stories. I would have been a victim. To each of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the detailed education for a better more informed decision in my future of being an RV consumer. Thumbs up if these good people saved you too.
If you are a responsible and informed buyer, camping world has great prices. If the cost of paying 2000 less is financing, finance and send the payoff on your first payment. I bought 2 RVs out of 4 I owned, and I would but again from them if the price was right
@@TexasScout most reputable banks don’t have early payoff penalties, and many states have laws against the practice. I don’t remember ever seeing a loan like that. Certain bhph places go around it by including the interest in the price and advertising 0% interest, but it is a very limited practice
I have looked at the same ads as everyone else sees. I couldn't help but see the 20 year financing on rigs (as you said) wouldn't or couldn't even be a viable for ten years. I can't understand how a potential buyer would look at those fine print campers and say to themself "Ooh baby, I gotta get me one of these!". What is going through their minds? What ever happened to common sense? You know, the buyer is supposed to BEWARE!
I was a recent widow and was one of those that camping world screwed. My 12,999 camper came to over $20,000. I have been paying on it for two nearly 3 years now and still owe over $18,000. I put $5000 down so I thought I could pay it off quickly. At this rate it will completely fall apart before I even pay it off. I had a feeling that I should have just walked away, but the salesman assured me that this is a well made camper. Ehhhhh so cheap the walls are cardboard and can’t even hang pictures on the wall. I am just sick. Can’t even sell it for what I owe. Just sad they can get away with this crap.
We are just days away from a grand opening of a new CW here in Wichita KS. I have alerted a press friend of mine she was shocked!!!! and Camping land opens the same day north of the city and they have already spoken publicly about CW and they're tactics
Great show.....great public service. I have been lucky, I guess. I am on my fourth trailer and have not had any serious issues with them but I know of a local dealer who is, less say, less than scrupulous. I am glad to see someone exposing these people. Your show is very professionally done.
Bought a RV from CW 5 years ago. Wanted to pay cash but they insisted on financing the unit thru US Bank. Finally I said ok. I then turned around and paid off the balance on the 2nd payment. Guessing CW gets some sort of $ from US Bank.
All dealers make money on the financing. In fact in most dealerships, the finance department is the main profit center, surpassing new vehicle sales, used vehicle sales, parts, and service.
Same thing when we bought furniture. They force you into a CC you don’t want or need. I don’t do business with them or anyone else that uses those tactics.
First time buyers! that's how it happens. They are good cons. We were nervous when we purchased ours. They hid all defects from us. We never received a walk through . Salesman basically came out and said they receive a flat fee which does not motivate them.
We can add a couple non reputables we have dealt with. Bill Plemmons in winston salem nc, rv glass gurus, Grampa's RV Repair. Hope it helps someone else avoid the frustrations.
I had a friend that work for camping World got fired because he brought up the fact that the parts would be ordered for somebody and they would use the parts on another camper that was sitting there longer waiting for parts they don't want to hear what's wrong with their. I recommend that if you order parts check with the manufacturer to see when the parts were ordered when the parts were sent if they were signed for by anybody at any camping World and then going to camping World with that information to get your RV. You have to stay on top of them.
I’m currently working at the one in Berkley MA. Customers are constantly getting screwed over. Also nobody’s knows how to properly communicate in our building.
I worked at many businesses in babylon devil kingdoms in america for 1 or more days, for 1 or a few weeks ,n one or more months, some i get directly hired on n many i worked at through temp agencies, i saw so many cursed messed up things happening at many of them cause of all these cursed demon devil possessed children of hell n evil human beings working at them, there was only a few that many blessings over came the curses, usually the bigger it was the more hell you had to deal with If you dont have enough really good hearted holy spirit filled children of love n truth on the work crew, well there is going to be many more problems n headaches to deal with in Babylon
I almost bought a mid 90s 20 ish foot motor home that was absolutely beautiful inside. I mean it looked unused!! They wanted $14000. It was a lot for how old it was but it was perfect!!! I took it on the freeway before I bought it and at about 45 mph it started shaking back and forth so hard it was scary!!! They said it was on consignment and they didn’t know it had a problem but the salesman said he knew!! I didn’t tell the BOSS that I was told that to protect the honest salesman but I didn’t buy it.
I've been in the automotive industry (primarily the collision repair part of it) since 1972 and in the automotive dealership side of things since 1990. I know Ricky from his days as a dealer and I know the dealership he is referring to. Please heed his advice if you are considering buying from one of these dealerships.
I am currently trying to buy a Coleman camper from several different camping world dealers in the country in your spot on with the fees that they try to add on to the internet price they're adamant about documentation fees prep fees in free and then they usually try to sell you a bumper and anything else they can upsell you to get a few more dollars out of you I'm willing to buy this camper cash and they won't sell it to me unless I pay the fluff and that's three separate camping world dealers in the country right now that I'm trying to get this camper from
Love this video. Thanks for the info. I will be buying a new RV this spring, but guess who it will not be from? Camping World! This video is 1.5 year old so hopefully they are bankrupt by now. I don't know because I will not consider them an option.
Alan and Ricky, that was an outstanding interview. Thank you for that. Buying a new RV seems like a nightmare, worse than a car dealership. I’ve owned an RV before, but it was private sale so it was quick and easy with cash. I’m going to factory order a new RV from the manufacturer in Alabama, but I’m in California so the only dealer a few hours away is a big mega RV place, the next one is 6 hours away. I am going to write a check for the full purchase price, but it sounds like the dealers normal operating procedure is to try and beat you down for financing. I will not do that. My question is this: How should i go about my negotiation? Be upfront about cash or say I’m not sure if I am going to pay cash or finance it (no trade in involved). I hate all of the games and land mines that are thrown in front of customers. Also, for a new factory order rig do you suggest I have a third party inspector look it over before I take it off the lot? Thank you in advance.
I would love to own an RV, but I would take someone with me, who would know what to look for. They're extremely expensive, so you'd better be prepared to spend your whole life paying for it and you can't see problems as easily as you would with a regular sized vehicle.
Adding on insurance on to the note or a condition of sale or financing automatically or without approval of the buyer is illegal in many states. We had in my area a few years back a bank and banker indicted by the state AG for this sort of thing. They were simply adding on low cost income insurance to most loans to which they and the bank received a commision. They were civilly and criminally charged. Can't remember if convicted or plead guilty.
Buyers get themselves in bad financial situations, not the lenders or companies they buy from, including Camping World. Buyers have to be more educated and savy with their money and financial decisions.
Several years ago we tried to buy a class A from CW and they would not let us pay cash we had to finance through them for like 15-20 years. My husband had cash to buy the one we wanted and was going to write a check or wire the money to them whatever they wanted. They wanted us to finance it. My husband just got up and walked out.....
My best friends where going to buy a new Class C Jayco camper for cash, I begged them not to buy it at Campers World! His know it all wife went straight there anyway, and never looked anywhere else. They got sucked into buying all that extra crap they did not need. They picked it up in May and used it one time. They had a whole list of things they found wrong with it, including the "stainless steel" sink was rusting. Contacted CW and was told bring it right in we will take care of it. 4 months later it's still not fixed, they said there still waiting for parts. #1, Now they have lost the whole summer, #2, They got sick of waiting for them to do the repairs so they picked it up, all the parts needed to fix it where sitting right in the camper that had been delivered but never installed.
One of the worst investments you can buy.... and boats .. ALWAYS buy used if you just have to have one. being are car dealer for 30 plus yrs . i would get my friends that wanted one at the auto auctions . or find one that a owner was selling cheap.
Some of the RU-vidRS that are full timers are also putting the word out there about CAMPING WORLD. Some of the people don't their own home work on buying. These are big ticket items. But don't you think some people just don't care about there credit , if it's bad what is one more item. If they finance it for them they will go enjoy it until they come pick it up for non payments. GAMPING WORLD doesn't care they will sell it again .
Last time I bought a car, it was more car than I needed, a prestige brand. The delivery inspection papers had nothing checked off on them. And since it rained heavily that night, I noticed the water wasn't really beading either. I went back the next morning, listened to all the "reasons" and said fine, now do it all again and use MY WAX (Collinite) on it. I made sure the sales manager saw the way water beaded up on my wax, not just sitting there the way theirs did. Ages ago I worked for a car dealer. The maker paid them less than warranty rate (about half retail rate) for delivery inspections. And when one tire showed 26 pounds and the next 33 pounds, on the same car, you knew damned well they were cheating. That's how too many "vehicle" dealers get so rich. A rare few do an outstanding honest job. Rare. Few.
Alan, I'm really sorry you took that second caller when you did. I know you are distracted from Rick with your crew but you weren't listening to Ricky. I was, and I wanted to hear what Ricky learned from the Navy Seal. But we never did. I'm just slightly disappointed.
Yes I was disappointed also not hearing what that Navy SEAL and the lesson that he was to learn from him. You need to get that caller back online so we can find out the rest of the story.
I know noting about RVs, but I love the show. I have been working for a Top 50 Dow Jones Company who has never asked me to cheat my customers in 30 years. I couldn’t work for the companies you deal with. It seems as if a buying service that can arrange for RV financing with the most competitive rates as well as deal with the dealer to negotiate pricing and phony charges. I have never heard the words buying service on your show, but there certainly is a huge need for someone to guide the customer.
Mine was a different Dealer but they never cleaned or prepped anything. Had them install the 2 nd AC unit and they didn't charge me for months. Of course after about 6-8 months I ended up getting $250 plus the unit installed for below cost. They just wanted to settle the unpaid bill. But after a year of shopping 95% of the Rv Dealers are lying theives.
IF someone is financing with very little down (a bad idea in itself) then Gap can be a good thing. But you can buy it from your own insurance company or credit union for a fraction of what a dealer will charge.
@@mrmichaeltscott I agree; but 'buying it right' means more than getting a good price. It means paying cash ideally, or at the very least making a substantial down payment and having a reasonable (less than 5 year) loan term. If you buy ANY new RV, regardless of how good the price, with 0 or almost 0 down and a 10+ year loan, you WILL be upside down for most of the loan term. If it gets totaled or stolen you still ow the difference between the loan amount and the actual value the insurance covers. Most people that would finance this way probably aren't able to come up with that difference or they'd have made a down payment in the first place. That is what GAP is for, but again it can be bought from your insurance company for a fraction of what the dealer finance department sells it for.
@@kbjcda if you need GAP you're not buying it right. Period. If they need a BUNCH of money down for their financing, they stee scamming you on the loan. I financed my bank, I put half down and paid it off in 12 months at zero interest. But I digress.
I am a LIFETIME GOOD SAM Member. Have been since long before Marcus Lemonis took over. And of course GOOD SAMS is the Parent company of Camping World.I can remember when CW never sold RV's. They were strictly a Camping Store for Supplies and Stuff.I avoid CW like the Plague! The Jackson, MS store is the closest store to me in Louisiana. I have been there a couple of times. It is a brand new store, about 4 years old or so. And they have a TON of RV's. But, I would never buy anything from CW, not even a Breath Mint!As for the FIRST TIME BUYERS, THEY SHOULD NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM CW. First Time Buyers should look, but don't buy from CW. Walk away and you may need to RUN. But, don't buy anything from CW!
We were just a victim of this. We were told our bottom line was just over $28K, got our papers from the financing company showing an about financed about of over $35K Period increase of 60 months
Love your opinions you commentator you ! Keep up the good work ! Carry On ! The CW stories break my heart . They are ruining the whole industry ! The manufacturers in this country need to stop selling to them !

If it has wheels, pay cash or don’t buy it. It’s literally that simple.
@ But it's not truly 0% interest when you self finance at 100% down. You don't consider opportunity cost. How much could that money earn in a Mutual Fund or even a savings account? I put the $$ in the Market and earn the payment and sometimes more, so the car is essentially free.

Terry Gandy eh, depends on your income. It just delays whatever purchase you had planned by a few weeks.
We bought a top of the line Bullet Premier trailer in 2013 from CW and had all sorts of trouble with the unit ..the shower stall was not installed correctly, the air conditioner did not work, the hot water heater worked part of the time so on and so on..we were told all of that would be fixed before we would take ownership of our trailer....after 2 month of waiting, the shower had not been fixed the water heater still had issues ..we wanted to go camping with our friends so we were told to go camping and to bring back the trailer after we went camping and they would finish the shower stall and the water heater....long story short it took them over 3 months to fix the shower all they did was put some extra anchors in the seams tp hold the panels together but the water heater was a different story as was the air conditioner it took until this year when a new unit was put in and now everything works great but what a headache I will never buy from camping world again They should fire the heads of the company and stat all over again and change their attitude
Havn`t formed any opinion but be careful these days who you deal with. My beef was with a rental car company who has not even been registered with BBB. Watch them real close.
I only go to CW to see if they have anything new that I may want, then I use ShoppSavvy app scan it and see how much it cost on Amazon. Then I make a decision to buy at CW or Amazon... 99% of the time I get the item at Amazon. I have saved hundreds of dollars by doing it this way.
Why is the next generation not receiving basic financial literacy in our public school systems? This kind of stuff happens across the board; doesn't happen just to RV purchasers.
To be honest, I don’t hear any evidence of anything nefarious. Rv’s are a luxury item that are thrown together because if they were made well there would be no selection and only the rich could afford one; hence the reason why they don’t fall under the lemon law. I find it hard to believe the price and terms aren’t on the contract they sign. Another thing how is it camping worlds fault that that couple with no credit and no down payment was surprised they’re term was 15 years when they were only paying a couple hundred a month?
Anyone who signs for a loan for which they do not fully comprehend the terms deserves to get whatever they signed for. There are standard worksheets / forms for auto loans which state the amount financed the interest rate and the duration. Impossible to not know the loan terms when the customer is always provided a copy of what they signed.
No. They are saying don't be an RV buyer. Save yourself the grief. Rent one instead. Seems expensive to rent but not nearly as much cost as buying one, No storage, no depreciation, no insurance/registration.
maybe, the people who want a rv , should start looking into having large regular vans, or trucks and having them converted into a camper..this way..the owner can deal with the builder on what they desire. .....same old thing just buyer beware...
Tonyjohn I gave your comment a thumbs down only because thousands of people have been ripped off by camping world and many people left to deal with repairs of their purchase on their own! Totally uncool & not fair! These bastards are taking advantage of people across the country! It’s not the bad tactics of one dealer... it’s all of them! Let them take their medicine.. they already took people’s money!
I think you're lucky to have Camping World. Without Camping World, you wouldn't have a program as you seem obsessed with the company. You feature it as a complaint target on so many of your shows that it's becoming a repetitive theme to the point that you seem to have a vendetta rather than providing information. It's getting really old listening to you pile on Camping World as a regular feature of your program. As soon as you start the Camping World whine - I just move on. Dead horse, meet Alan Warren.
