This high pressure water gun could save lives. It fights fires through walls and doors, which allows firefighters
to stay shielded. It is called PyroLance.
The powerful jet cuts a 6mm hole in surfaces. It can even cut
through metal and brick. It then shoots a fine mist of water into the building. This reduces the temperature inside and also reduces the likelihood of backdraft.
The PyroLance is currently being used by the US Air Force and Navy.

It's supposed to be fired at an angle up towards the ceiling. Also, if there is a fully developed fire, noone is going to be standing on the other side of the door, they'll be lying on the floor. Firing it in chest height won't hurt anyone.

Reinforced concrete as a material won't stop it. It's the thickness of material that matters. High pressure water jets don't care what you put in front of them, they WILL cut through it. The effective cutting distance from the nozzle is pretty limited though, so if you have a wall that is several feet thick it will be stopped.

Why is everyone complaining about how ‘potentially deadly’ this thing is? All of these comments are about how it can cut skin or slice a person in half or some other bullshit. Come on people! This is a very good idea that was demonstrated on video to show how it’s extremely useful in a fire. I’m sure there’s training on how to use it so one DOESN’T put a person on the other side of a wall in MORE danger (remember there’s a fire). I’m sure if I try hard enough I could harm someone with a spoon, or even a towel. It’s the user, not the object in the users hand. This is a great idea and I hope it becomes an industry standard.

Honestly, so many people asking what would happen if it hit someone on the other side of the wall. Sure, it would hurt, but the pressure of the water decreases exponentially as it travels from the barrel so it wouldn't cause them to be suddenly speared by the water unless they were literally presses against the wall being punched through.

I have been accidentally blasted within a foot from a similar 1450 psi pressure washer, it hurts but it aint going to do any ambulatory damage. Now if it was a higher pressure then I would have been going to the hospital, if you think it takes a few seconds to cut through anything with water alone, you're mistaken!

I like how when stuff like this goes up the net, people find a truck loads of flaw on the thing the people back in the department could not, and most of it is not just hot air too. There's likely some situation they may have expected, maybe people are going to be trained from preventing bad things happen as a result of water that starts to drill even metal and bricks.

Firefighters are trained professionals. They trained constantly and prepare themselves for every situation. They evacuate everyone in the building and this new consent doesn’t eliminate the fire hose entirely. They will use it for special occasions. Shame nobody in the comment section realizes this.

We've had a version of these for years, the US Navy used hose nozzles of similar function for shipboard fires. The issue is that it takes a LOT of pressure in comparison to standard hoselines, and if you have a victim on the other side of the wall? Well...You wouldn't anymore. It has it's uses to be sure, but it's pretty niche. For Search and Rescue AFTER the fire is out and we are in overhaul...Maybe? Perhaps in building collapses it could be useful if there is a danger of gas leaks? Again, it is useful, but the situations that you could quickly, practically, and safely utilize this are rather limited and rare.

Actually not, it's main purpose is to lower the temperature and lower the fires intensity without exposing the firefighter for dangers such as backdrafts etc. It's used in conjunction with standard firefighting methods afterwords. It's made to be small and can fit in small nimble vehicles that can reach a fire before the main force. At least the original which this is based on.

So this is a pretty good idea it keeps the firefighters safe but it’s not the best tactic for actually fighting the fire because a fine will eventually put out the fire but if someone is in the room the fine mist will actually kill them because they don’t have an scba and they will get steamed to death

I wish the Lance could cut holes at a much larger diameter so more of the fire is contained. Possibly when an engine company has to provide cover for a truck/rescue company while searching for victims in tight spaces?
