Happened to a friend of mine in high school. He had his class ring on, and while playing soccer, decided to jump up and grab the top bar of the goal. His ring got caught on one of the hooks that hold the net, and it did the same thing. Degloved his finger, and broke the bone, severed the tendon, and nerves. He didnt lose the finger right away, but after a week, it became necrotic due to lack of blood flow, and they took his finger. The sad part is that he was due to ship out for the army after graduation, but couldnt after this happened.

This happened to my father, too. He jumped from the back of a truck & his ring caught on something. He was lucky he didn't lose his finger, though..

Very true! I had a friend come to me asking for help because she couldn't get her ring off, and didn't want to damage the ring by cutting it off. I had her hold her finger in ice water for a few minutes. In reaction to the cold, the finger decreases in size a bit. After a few minutes of her finger in the water, she was able to slip the ring off. She thanked me profusely for getting the ring off.

There's a ring tourniquet technique that can be used to remove stuck jewellery very easily without cutting. I've seen a RU-vid short of a nurse using it. It a clever yet simple technique

I think people buy rings small for their fingers, I went to the store one time, and they told me I should size down but I told my husband I rather it a little lose because im afraid it being too perfect or get stuck.

I only take my ring off when I shower - and sometimes not even then. Guess it might depend on just how tight the ring fits.

Don't worry, you don't have to if you don't want to. Im married and i literally never wear my ring. I used to work around high voltage and we weren't allowed to wear jewelry anyway. i guess other women like to wear rings just to be a show off or something

That's what worked for me as a kid with fingers that had no swelling but my last one wouldn't budge even using the thread trick.

Funeral homes do it all the time this way or similar method.

@@thetree2358 use dental floss wind it up good and tight around the finger work quickly then get the floss under the ring somehow . then grab the floss and Pull .

Many things can cause swelling in the hands! Allergic reactions, sudden change in temperature, pregnancy, eating a lot of salty food and insect bites/stings to name a few.
