Purchased on sale from the earlier meager batch this year, just pinks or whites, had the HSH in mind. Heavy boy, not quite 9 pounds!
Original single coils are hottish plastic bobbin A5's, 6.8K and 7.0K, I put baseplates on them, matched them to a rehabbed hot bridge humbucker from another gutted Chender and installed them in a young customer's Affinity much to his great delight, so don't discount them, steel baseplates raise the inductance and output, focus the magnetic field, elevate their dynamics and interaction with tube amps, cheapest pickup mod you could want. Original HB needs mucho help, find a good new one you like, the 80s style Super Distortion would work.
The MusicLily bridge is 333% better than the original, 10.5mm string pitch, full steel block, steel keyhole style saddles, trem bar set screw in the collar on top of the bridge plate. Not screw in, as the Gotoh 510 is but $110 less so give it the hammer treatment!

Yeah man, I'm thinking a mint green pickguard might do the trick. But that's a pretty groovy looking guitar!

Tee'd a green one up, dark tortie won. Maple finger board and a more subdued shade of shell pink I'd say mint green would edge out the win but the rosewood on this one is super super dark, even red tortie looked a bit odd. Single ply black was a maybe.

I like what you did to this guitar, beside the trem arm loose, MY only complaint is, WHERE IS THE PICKGUARD SCREW ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE NECK? 😂😂😂😂

I love the shell pink body color. Although I'm not feeling the tortuous shell pickguard. But that's the cool thing about guitars. We can personalize them any way we want. I grabbed one of the heavily reliced "burst" finish Strats from the last drop. It has a high fret, which I will fix myself but the neck profile is glorious. It is everything I could ever want in a modern C. I haven't put my calipers on it, but I bet it is within 1mm of an Ibanez Wizard III neck thickness. Other than the more vintage fret wire size I would call it a very shreddy neck.

The new compound radius neck is definitely a Schecter style shredded neck. Wish they would design a fatter vintage neck also, like the soft V for example, and focused "vintage" offerings for Fender stuff. I don't think they actually design realized products tho, as much as just copy and assemble stuff, at times rather randomly. I like this particular neck profile, it's just the right amount of thick. This one in particular could actually use a 10.8mm string pitch bridge, it's wide enough at the heel.

@oldasrocks9121 , ahhh, you like the more "vintage" neck profiles. That's cool. I play mostly Ibanez/Jackson stuff, so wide/thin D'ish shaped "shreddy" necks are what I'm used to. Definitely not because I shred, though. My two FFLP's both have vintage neck profiles. The relic Strat I got is definitely different. I wouldn't be surprised if it's within 1mm of the modern Ibanez Wizard III neck profile. A very modern C. I'm not sure about the infrastructure of the manufacturing of these in any respect. Just that they do it for $200.00 absolutely blows me away. Even when they have basic issues they are still a total steal.

@@BazonBlades They can do it by having low build and inspection tolerances and not getting returns from buyers who wouldn't know to care about wonky string alignment, misaligned bridges, bent necks and so forth. You'll also notice you don't pay sales tax, so it's likely the tax they pay is squishy. Their import scheme is probably also squishy. And they don't have a true customer service system to pay for, not one that makes sense to North American expectations. I've only ever gotten responses from one person. And they have a practice of sending returns to customers that have ordered new guitars. By American business standards it's all a bit scammy but it's pretty much the same as you'd expect from no name Chinese eBay sellers with the single exception that you can "return" a guitar that you find falls short. I suspect the idea of having an in house factory brand name was a bit of break through at the time they came up with it.

@@BazonBlades I like shreddy necks but I also appreciate a neck the fights back a bit. I have Squier CV Late 50s PBass which I love but it definitely does not have a late 50s PBass neck profile, it's a little too easy to play... I think if you're designing a 50s blackguard Telecaster, for example, it shouldn't have a shredder neck. It just makes you appear rando as a designer at best, careless, indifferent and even cynical at worst. It's the difference between a designed product and a rando counterfeit.

There haven't been good tortoiseshell pickguards for A LONG time.

WD has some good swirly tortie like guards, they'll make them in translucent versions as well as multi-ply. I believe Lavaguards make spendy celluloid ones, there's a place in the UK too, doctor/dentist money tho

Hey old as rocks man I'm old as dirt been playing for over 50 years and I'm digging how I can get a really nice guitar that comes standard with stainless steel frets like the Censtar Strat Style guitar I just bought. But I want to get a Firefly also, I wanna compare it to my Censtar which ran me right under $200 including tax. I have one picked out that is HSS loaded and the color on the Ash body is black with yellow wood grain which looks really good, it's only $169 plus tax. But anyway I wanted let you know that with all do respect please consider when your doing a review like this to back off the camera alittle so we can get a full shot of your axe , I mean I was waiting to see the whole thing but it never happened. So carry on and take it easy on the close ups.....
