I didn't notice anyone pointing this specific fact out, but i love how Dagoth is completely not even looking at the Nerevarine, and is instead looking directly into where the eyes would be in the silhouette of the Nerevar

They're locked into a position they can't escape. In my mind, they're a prisoner of prophecy. They are Nerevar reborn whether they actually are, or aren't. They have this maddening burden they have to carry. Plus they're literally a stranger in a strange land. An Outlander. They have to save the same Dunmeri peoples who straight-up hate them, even if they're a Dunmer themselves. (I know you can't prosper well as a 100% good person in MW. And I bet Nerevar wasn't a Saint in life either. But c'mon. I feel so sad for all of them, the Hortator, the Sharmat, the Nerevarine. Idk how to feel about the Tribunal, ironically. And tbh, I don't like Azura. At all. ,-_-) And then there's the Sharmat himself...the Devil. The evil antagonist. You protrayed him very well in this work of art. The moment as he sees the Hortator getting stabbed, crawling toward him, lifting his face up. Betrayed, just for being loyal to his best friend. Gods. When people try to mock the writing in TES I remind them of this very story line. It's by far my favourite. The age old betrayal that spans more than life times as it's carried literally by reincarnations of the people involved. The imperfect nature of the false gods and the hard choices that Dagoth had to make. He's sympathetic yet inarguably has to be stopped. It's actually one of if not the best story I've ever seen from a game and it's told to you through context and word of mouth in-game alone. Fucking masterpiece!

Sweet Nerevar, to this place where destiny is made, why have I come unprepared?

God the moment where Voryn looked at Nerevar’s face after their betrayal is just heartwrenching. All that history there and the Nerevarine barely remembers, and you can just feel that ache and bitterness behind that mask. God this is beautiful.

I love this, Dagoth Ur is by far one of my favorite villains, because he’s so relatable, even as a god you can completely understand his motives and where he’s coming from, his story is one of betrayal upon betrayal upon betrayal, in his eyes he is doing everything right, I think when he fights you it’s a mixture of revenge, hope, despair, in all honesty his boss fight feels more like a desperate scrap between two old and bitter friends than the hero striking down the villain. By far the best and most memorable game I’ve played.

The song's quite fitting in some way. You're not freeing a Buddhist monk with a sweet bike from hell, but a man pushed to the edge by betrayal and loss from a curse he claimed to be divine.

It always made me sad that the constant thought of Neravar n Dagoth Ur being good friends. Dagoth Ur wanted to protect Neravar with his life n he still died- Obviously Dagoth Ur is far from being exactly a good guy, but it just made me sad how much Dagoth Ur seems to still cling to the memories of their friendship

The scene Nerevar's figure appeared faintly behind Nerevarine strikes me so hard that I can't help weeping now. I kept wondering if Dagoth Ur could distinguish the Nerevarine from his dearest Lord Nerevar, or if he just didn't want to, for this is the reunion after the millennia he was longing for. Thank you for your excellent work, really appreciate it.

This in its whole is amazing. I've left a simple comment before, but I thought it'd be time to actually give this video a proper review. Giving the heartbeat in Fires of Hokkai context as the beating Heart of Lorkhan was an outstanding move, and ties the whole animatic together, from Dagoth Ur's viewing of it to the encounter with Liv, the Nerevarine. The establishing shot of Red Mountain and Liv, the Nerevarine, standing before it, wielding Wraithguard and drawing her bladee gives me chills, the good kind. The small flashback with Vivec was also a nice touch, especially considering his role later in the video, and in MW lore. Dagoth Ur's calm walk down some stairs and Liv slaughtering Dagoth Ur's minions to retrieve the Profane Tools creates a nice contrast, and then the transition to the arduous climb up Red Mountain, the ashen blight storms in your face. Fires of Hokkai always had this odd "burning" feeling I could never really link to anything, but it feels as if it was made for Morrowind. Now I know exactly why. Liv standing over the cliff headed deeper into the facility of Dagoth Ur and the transition to Indoril Nerevar, standing with his companions, knowing what he has to do, again, reflects the story amazingly - as, well, Nerevar once had to slay his friend, Voryn Dagoth, now known as Dagoth Ur, just as Liv has to do now. Nerevar looks filled with sorrow, knowing what he has to do - to strike down his dearest brother-in-arms to retrieve the tools, unknowing he had taken some of the Heart's divine essence for himself. On the other side of the coin, Liv doesn't seem too bothered by her task - she had first-hand seen what the Sixth House had done, and goes in, maybe not unfilled with regret, but determined to finish her quest. Nerevar striking down Dagoth gives, of course, the chiiiilllllllls, but then, as the music approaches its climax, Dagoth looking up as he sees the cowardly assassination of Nerevar at the hands of the Tribunal in his last moments before consciousness fades adds extra punch, and I love it. Subsequently, Dagoth Ur crawling over to Nerevar's corpse, revealing how his face was torn from his head, before, as the climax hits, Dagoth absolutely breaks down in a grand internal maelstrom of hatred and sorrow -- -- before it cuts back to the expressionless mask adorned on Dagoth Ur's face, as all instruments in Fires of Hokkai stop, except for the heartbeat... As Dagoth Ur once again faces Nerevar, this time, not as his Chimer brother-in-arms, whom he had shared many, many years with, serving as friend, and comrade in battle, but as a normal, ordinary Argonian, perhaps the reincarnation of Nerevar, but so, so far removed from Dagoth Ur's initial perception, yet carrying the same soul, the spirit of his long-lost companion... If I were to describe my emotions here for those scenes alone, I would not be doing this animatic justice. Heck, this comment doesn't even do it justice. The pacing, the scenes, and the music to tie it together - This is an amazing, grandiose work of art, and it's a definite must-watch for anyone who has completed Morrowind's main quest. I don't know what else to say but... thank you. I have no idea why, but I feel obligated to thank you for creating this animatic. From the deepest reaches of my mind, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you so, so much.

It's seriously insane how few views this has. As someone who's never played Morrowind and entered the series with Oblivion, I've been told lots of times I need to play Morrowind. And I've never been able to, without the nostalgia or prior experience it just feels too clunky. But even still, this animatic had me very emotionally invested, and I haven't had a stronger argument to play the game. This is a fantastic animatic.

This hits me hard in the feels. Honestly, the pacing and choice of scenes are so wonderfully done, and I thoroughly enjoy the style this was drawn in. The transitions for the images flow really, really well with the music you used, and the constant heartbeat adds a sense of foreboding for me that I adore. This genuinely makes my heart ache for Dagoth Ur, Nerevar, AND the Nerevarine. Job very well done!

Every once in a great while, we encounter a piece of art in life that strikes a chord within us. For whatever reason we are drawn to it, enthralled by it, absorbed by it. A fruit so sweet it hurts a little. This is one of those pieces of art for me. I randomly found it while scrolling through some unrelated videos, and now after watching it, I have spent the last 8 hours looking up Morrowind Lore. The emotion conveyed through this short is stellar. The pacing is on point. The music is perfect. Every aspect of this short seamlessly compliments one another; it is a true work of art, and something very special. Bravo, and thank you for sharing this with us! I do sincerely hope you endeavor to make more, as this was amazing, and like the morrowwind lore I've been bingeing; I am left wanting for more.

Oh my gosh, this is incredible! Without any dialogue or lyrics, the story conveyed here is so moving, all through the expressions and the poses and the *movement* my god the movement. I swear, I saw Liv's feet *actually moving* despite the still frame. The emotion is heartwrenching, heartbreaking even. Dagoth's face, the whole while, even behind the mask is so well communicated as he goes through thrice-cursed grief.... I can't commend this enough!!

I love the fact that people are still playing this classic almost 20 years later, and producing creative content about it. It's probably my favourite game of all time.

Voryn Dagoth should never have been left alone in the same room as those tools. Artifacts like the Heart are very good at whispering when no one is around....

"What's the point in being a part of history if you're too ignorant to understand it?" I think the reason I love this portrayal so much is the juxtaposition of the nerevarine's hero's journey and voryn's twisted and traumatic relationship with nerevar. The nerevarine is doing the right thing, but in doing so, they're involving themselves in millenia-spanning relationships that they couldn't possibly understand

This is surprisingly well done. I showed this to my boyfriend who has no knowledge of Morrowind and he was able to pick up on the important plot points, which is a testament to how well you were able to tell tell the story with your art. I honestly love this so much

Dragon Breaks can nosedive into the bowls of Red Mountain- Dagoth and Nerevar were the victims of three selfish fools. I love how still art, when timed properly to song, can envoke better emotion than true animation- the Fires of Hokkai was such a fitting track for this tale!

OH MY GOD....This is exactly how I pictured Nerevar's foul murder. That Dagoth saw his friend being betrayed and killed. And it broke him so bad that he turned into this Godlike thing. I like the Tribunal but it always brings my blood to a boil when I think about the fact that his closest advisors, friends, and his wife. Turned against him and murdered him. He was so wronged in life that Azura swore that he would come back and make things right again. I hope we will know of his fate in the next game. Or if he ever died. See him next to Azura in Moonshadow, as her right hand man. Or even as her lover. Idk. But Nerevar deserved better than this.

This animation is exceptional. Probably the best of all the RU-vid Morrowind ones. Particularly the switch between the face of Voryn Dagoth and the mask of Dagoth Ur at 1:38 . The Tribunal, false-gods, twice-murderers, oath-breakers, liars, tyrants. How can any of my Nerevarines (at least the ones that believe in the prophecy) let them live ? Time to murder Vivec and bring Wraithguard to the last dwemer. In honor of the friendship Nerevar once had. (Not to say that Dagoth Ur isn't a threat to Nirn ; he is, and his current plan must be stopped.)

An old friendship ends in war, a people disappearing, then betrayed by three people of the four people you loved most only to die. Then the one who your old self strike down tho not killed trys to avenge you but fail. Then your people though lies and greed are changed forever. Your brought back to life anew because of an old promise. But are forced to save everyone by killing your truest friend. This is the only way to make this better for everyone and everything. For if you fail or hesitate, your truest friend will not. Its mercy for him. For us all.

I'm amazed more people haven't seen this; I've not gotten super far into Morrowind myself but know plenty about the story from time in the Elder Scrolls community and this is probably the best depiction of it I've seen so far. Of course you still have to stop Dagoth in the end, but at the same time you can't help but sympathise with him

Man, this was well done. I think my favorite part was the shot of Nerevar's skinned face and then the raw hurt and fury in Dagoth Ur's bloody eyes. Wonderful choice of music too. ... I wonder if we'll ever get a TES game with this fascinating a story again. The prophesied reincarnation of a legendary hero and leader, whom you later learn was actually betrayed, slain, and mutilated by the ones closest to him... with no face, he could return with any sort of appearance. With no feet, he would not be restricted to any one path, returning as wizard, warrior, rogue, or anything at all. The spear Muatra penetrates him, but also protrudes from him, symbolizing he could be either man or woman in his reincarnation.

First off, this animatic was wonderful. I really liked the flash back scene as it hit me right in the heart. I recently played through the main campaign of Morrowind for the first time after trying and failing to really get hooked for a few times before. What I always thought was so interesting is that The Nerevar doesn't really "win" at the end of the game. When you destroy the heart and Dagoth 'ur the tribunal loses their power, and you're lifted as a hero sure but imagine how your character feels. They've read all this history and lore and individual accounts about how he originally died and he has no way to truly know which is actually the truth. Was he betrayed by the tribunal whom at the time he did not want to have to trust, or was he betrayed by his best friend and closest companion? We have no way to truly make a decision on that which impacts the end of the game but what is true is that our best friend is dead and that those who broke their promise continue to live and be lifted up as heroes when they've spent the last several hundred years doing everything in their power to lie and trick their people and keep the truth away from them. Morrowind is a really gut wrenching story not just because you get betrayed but because at the end of the day you must follow and help those who lied to you and your God, who are self seeking and motivated and ultimately are only concerned about red mountain and dagoth 'ur simply because he represents a threat to their power. And also because you must slaughter your friend. It's interesting though that Dagoth does ask you if you are truly the reincarnation of Nerevar, Someone following instructions or if you're doing it just to do it. If you select the first option, stating you believe you are the real reincarnation then Dagoth sadly remarks on the cruelty of Gods and their plans. Because either he must be cut down by his beloved friend or once again witness him die. Dagoth is truly a tragic individual, someone who was most likely twisted and tempted by Azura to misuse the heart just so her prophecy could eventually come to pass. Alas in morrowind all are tragic actors and toys for the daedric princes. Again, wonderful animation, thank you for making it and sharing it.

This animatic with this music is so amazing. Every time I watch it i cant help but gush about it. Using the beating of the drum in the song as the beating heart of lorkhan at the beginning and end is so perfect, and just everything about how the composition and makeup of the animatic, its all so great. This is very good, even though it's a story board. It's definitely one of the best story boards, due to the fact that you're able to summarize some complicated lore in about two minutes.
