We live in Northwestern PA and have around 70 Acres of Land, in the middle of family homestead land from more than 4 generations back. We have one daughter, one rescued Great Dane, and one cat. We enjoy working on our property and making improvements. We enjoy tractors, chainsaws, splitting firewood, rural living, and all purple collar life projects. Thank you for your wood cutting activity. Most important, I’ve noticed the care you have to both maintain and the extension of your equipment. I have noted the attempt you protect your tractor and I assume other items protected from the harsh winters as well as rage summers heat. Another good informative video! I enjoy your channel because you aren’t afraid to show mistakes and admit you might be wrong; unlike other know-it-all experts on the internet. I can’t remember if the Ford has chains, would those have helped in this specific circumstance?

I appreciate that! We do have chains for the Ford tractor - and they for sure would have had it moving through that mud without a problem. But they’d also dig into the soft yard a bit more - so there’s a trade off. Thanks for watching and the compliment on the channel content. We certainly keep it real.

Great tips on firewood. I prefer to not over cover the wood and keep it in an area that allows Mother Nature to do her thing. Sun and wind. I prefer to keep the wood at least 6-8 inches of the ground for air movement. Last but not least. Clean your chimney every year.

Thanks! To get the wood 6-8 inches off the ground - do you use double layer of pallets, or do you have a stacking location that is built up off the ground (like a wood shed)?

Good tips Chad. I had a tree cut down 3 years ago. I left it on the ground for 6 months until I went back to process it. Never again! The wood doubled in weight by soaking up that moisture.

We have a Split Fire since the early 90's. Updated to the hydraulic lift 5 or 6 years ago,replaced the engine once. Need 3 men and boy to keep up, there the best of the best splitters.

#1, don’t run heavy equipment in the woods in mud season 😆. It’s equipment maintenance season. Firewood production season for me is about 10 months of the year, but especially September-December. I love frozen ground with little to no snow, and less moisture in the trees. That’s ideal. Your tips are good. Freezing and thawing ground has caused my piles to fall over before, even when blocked up. That’s a major bummer.

The freeze/thaw cycle does make a mess in the Spring season. Since our property is full of natural springs - we seem to have what I call "mud season" from the end of winter until July. :)

Nice video . I like your log splitter with the log lifter . Being 65 now I’m always lifting my logs and it’s getting hard on me . I’m feeling the need to change up on that . I agree with you on the bug spraying but what I did last year was buy a Invatech gas sprayer mostly so I can be outside in the summer with the mosquitoes and ticks. I used talak product. It’s made from flowers so it’s safe to use . But I sprayed my firewood and this winter I did not see any bugs whatsoever in the garage and I did keep all wood that looked like bugs used them .

I've had rotator cuff surgery on both sides. I find that using my shoulders and not being lazy actually makes them feel better in general. I probably did overuse the one though, one was a slip and fall accident

That would be rough to have had shoulder surgery on both sides! Our Mackenzie had shoulder surgery on one side from volleyball - and she’s still trying to build strength to regain full capabilities over a full year later. Were you turning on the fuel at the beginning of the video when you were under the hood on the Ford tractor?

Good question - yes, that’s the fuel shut off for the Ford Workmaster. It’s located directly below the gas tank. I always shut it off after use. I’ve heard that it keeps the carburetor from having issues.

Man did you see the new splitfire vertical splitter! After tons of research on splitters I just pulled the trigger on a new rubbed made 28 ton last week than this weekend they release a vertical splitter which I would love to have!! It’s price point is awesome! I wrote them in a comment and said if they put a foot control option on it I am all in! It’s super fast to!!! Maybe split-fire will send you one to review ! 🤞🤞

I did see it. It certainly looks like a game changer. At that price point, and with people enjoying the vertical splitters from Eastonmade, Wolfe Ridge, and others - I think Split-Fire hit a home run. Who knows - maybe they’ll send me one to show off on the channel. :) @SplitFireSalesInc

@@PurpleCollarLife if they do I’ll let you review my brand new rugged made on the channel in exchange for a few passes on the vertical split fire lol. I’m definitely setting sone money aside for it. If they come up with that foot control I’m all in. You need 2 hands on the wood with that type of vertical in my opinion.

@@charger7022 Tell SplitFire that if you are using both hands to hold the wood then you are not putting any fingers on top. They are okay with chopping off fingers as long as they are not liable. I don't see why they should be liable either way. I am only suspecting that they are obeying their particular lawyer.

My dad would have beat my A_ _! If I had used the tractor in the mud tearing up the ground……. My three don’ts are #1. Do not ever stack fire wood, just pile it up. Stacking waste time handling the wood, #2 Do not cut & split fire wood in muddy conditions and #3 DO NOT USE THE TRACTOR in muddy conditions unless you are feeding cattle! And #4 Do not put fire wood in totes or cover it unless you want your fire wood to look PRETTY 😂😂 I do not subscribe to anything that involves any more of my time than is necessary
