Hello everyone! Tomorrow morning I will have a new video on my other channel (Out of the Wood Yard) from our South Dakota deer hunt! Check it out! CHRIS GNI
Good evening I run a small firewood business like yours and Also use a dump trailer for deliveries I added a solar powered battery maintainer. Solved all my battery issues. Even through winter “NH”. Hope this helps!!
Nice video Chris. Tall sides look ok but worried about backing into garages now. Might have to make the top side boards easily removable for those loads that don't require the extra space. Customers tree was taking revenge for all of it's cousin wood in the trailer. Looking forward to SD hunting. GNI
Nice deliveries, Chris. I'm glad to see the kiddos helping unload once in a while, too. You could tell it just made her day that much brighter.. GNI. 😁👍
😂 Now that's a professional delivery! Stuff ALWAYS goes that way! Glad he was cool about the tree, and running the trailer and everything. Good customers to have.
@@InTheWoodyard Thanks for the "real life" videos Chris. Your videos and editing get better after each one. After 800+ videos, I suppose that happens. I have a feeling your channel is going to continue to grow.
Nice boards to extend the sides with. Check in to a solar panel that can power a charger and put it where the sun can hit solar panel from about noon to 4 pm. Have a great day be safe.
Wow! Did the Tundra pull it ok? A cheaper suggestion is see if you can get long jumper cables that will reach from your truck battery to your trailer battery just in case you need it when the trailer battery dies, its not for charging just helps you get out of a bind. Great vide as always Chris!
The new sides are a great addition to the trailer. A higher amp charger for a quick top up midday or a second battery might be a good addition as well with all the deliveries going on. A higher capacity battery would help. Great video! GNI!!
With those side boards and larger loads I can suggest 3 mods for your tundra that I did to mine that will change your life. 1) real tow mirrors, there are a few brands out there that replace those mirrors from Toyota with something that actually help towing to be able to see. 2) Rear sway bar from TRD, seriously helps the stability of the truck. 3) Air bags for the rear suspension, really allows you to easily adjust the stiffness of the truck for loads. As a bonus I would also say since living farther north to swap out the factory halogen headlights with the factory led headlights since winter come early along with the darkerness they are a huge improvement. Love the channel
My side mirrors do pull out, it has the tow package, but I can see fine as they are. A lot of people I asked told me NOT do do air bags because of leaking failures eventually. I might get a set of helper springs , maybe 1,000 pounders. Sway bar...good call!
Morning Chris, now you have fitted extension (greedy-boards) to your trailer you have dramatically increased the load on your hydraulic ram! To the point I would guess where you are maxing-out on recommended loadings! Nevertheless, you will note that the higher you trailer goes, the thinner the ram extension gets! Therefore the ‘square area’ your hydraulic fluid can thrust the ram forward gets less and less. So, the hydraulic force the fluid exerts on your ram, when you start out, is far greater than when you reach your last extension! Designers compensate for this by assuming that, as your tipper body gets higher much of the load is discharging, requiring less hydraulic thrust! So, notwithstanding circumstances beyond your control you MUST always ensure that when you tipper body gets to a certain height it is indeed discharging the load (weight) so that the smaller sections of your ram can cope! In layman’s terms, if your load is not moving, from the front end particularly, as you get higher and higher your are in trouble!! Additionally, I am sure you must know that you always must tip on flat gradients! If in doubt go back to your supplier and seek a bit of friendly advice! Cheers Len (Devon 🇬🇧)
Hey Chris well I have finally made it back to the wood yard I have missed your videos. But I'm trying to catch up. But it looks as if you are doing a really great job at all the firewood and what's up with moving the yard man you are really doing awesome
The continual dead battery issue in the trailer is the very reason we sold it and went with a 14 yard dumpster bin truck. The bin floor is a full 2 ft higher off the ground than most trailer floors so the dumped pile is higher making for a shorter dump out.
I have my battery die about 2 times a year out of hundreds of dumps and it is always my own fault for not charging it . I am getting a solar charger and some long jumper cables...that is a cheap fix over a new dump truck that is 2 foot higher and harder to load.
I noticed you do a lot of 1&2 face cord deliveries. You probably have had someone suggest this. But have you thought about partioning your trailer. Make the first delivery. Pull the partition and so dump the other. Could save you some time and fuel. Just my two cents worth. Have a great week. Looking forward to the next video. Keep chucking wood!!!!
I have seen several suggestions on charger/booster box which I have had those also, but just like a battery. Mine soon get to where they aren't as good anymore just like a battery. I carry a long set of jumper cables and hook directly to truck battery on the end of day dumps. Sure excited for a new video on the other channel. It has been way to long! All this wood chucking can sure put a damper on fishing/hunting/trapping time and is just not acceptable!🤠
Yup, I am getting some long jumpers and a solar charger too. It is not a great hunting video, I only recorded a little bit, I actually did not do much work on this trip!!!
@@InTheWoodyard The long jumpers have saved me on several occasions. I found some that roll up on a reel and are easy to store away under the back seat.
Running a heavier load like that. Its going to draw more juice. Are you considering buying a second battery to switch out half way thru the day or putting another lift pump on the trailer? Or maybe hand unload 20% of the trailer? Was the guy upset about the tree?
I liked the view from outside the vehicle when enroute to delivery. At the end there you “gave er the squeal” like they say on “Dave and Kelsie’s” channel. GNI!
I put a battery tender brand 17w solar charger on my dump trailer, because I had the same issue where I ran out of power. My trailer came with a plug in port, but where I park it is further away from a plug. It keeps my battery topped up all winter easily. The OEM website says they are out of stock, but they are on amazon.
Hello Chris, a side from cutting the bolts, do you know anybody who could create a “Branding Iron “ or possibly wood burn you logo on to the planks of the trailer? It would be awesome and also give the channel some advertising! Have a great day!
Not a bad idea.. I have a 14’ Big Tex dump trailer. I have also added 2-2”X12” for taller sides. Now I have 4’ sides and can haul up to 3 cords. I like the name branding into the side boards idea. Thank you
Chris, when you cut off the bolts the ends will not be galvanized. Galvanizing is a surface coating. You will need to paint the ends to prevent rusting. We don't think you want 32 rust streaks running down your great trailer.
@@InTheWoodyard I would also coat the bolt heads you pounded on to get them through the boards. Probably the galvanizing was cracked and will begin to rust and streak.
1st part of this message is for me 😊. He Sure loves that Banjo Sound !!!😂. 2nd part It’s awesome to do a paying workout in 10 minutes time 👍. 3rd part. Got to like a woman that needs heat it puts extra Jingle in your jeans more firewood sales👏. 4th part you are a good dog gone Carpenter man! I liked it when you looked up at the camera an probably thought ooooh man not another side to do 🤣🤣👍. Pat ur self on ur back bro. Great new strong look to your trailer. No wayyyyyyy more sweet Banjo music. He sureeeeee loves them banjo tunes whooooo 😊 part 5. It happens hold on Chris I guess you don’t mind the extra wood 🪵 haha. See u next time bud
I carry a 30 foot long set of jumper cables so if the battery doesn’t have enough juice I can hook to my truck battery. Only time I ever have trouble is if it’s below zero. The battery is supposed to charge from your truck as you drive or is running.
Good video. Are those tie down rings on the floor of your dump trailer interfering w/the wood sliding out of your trailer on the dump? Your a pretty fair carpenter, looks like you need a pair of saw&fabrication horses . I have a good set of plans if needed.
Another great video Chris! That was a hard dump! I'm curious about the battery in the trailer. Is it a standard lead acid battery, AGM or something else? Wondering how well it will hold up with so many charge discharge cycles. If its discharging below about 10 volts for any length of time it could be getting damaged. Guess time will tell.
Hi Chris, any thoughts of getting a small power/pack booster for when the battery is about to die? They are about the size of a box of bullets and do work. They have ni-cad batteries and hold their charge. Another option is installing a second battery in your trailer if you have the room.
I can't believe that the deluxe N&N dump trailer does not have stake pockets for those 2x4's. Will be staining or painting the new side boards to preserve them at all? They did not look like pressure treated
Hey Chris nice load Derek I'm not sure if you are or not but the trickle charger through your tongue Is probably only charging when the truck running are you leaving the truck running on your short run dumps when you're dumping if not that may be the way to get a little more charge and also it might not charge if the ball isn't making real good you might need to clean your ball
Hello Chris do you think you need an Anderson plug on your trailer and wire the trailer battery to the car battery , I watch your channel every day keep up the good work 🤙
The Battery is charged from the Truck. And the Aux Connection is fused at 20 Amps. With the Truck running and running the Pump with the low Trailer battery there is the Possibly that Fuse can blow.
Add a set of 20 foot jumper cables to your truck. They are handy to have and when your trailer battery dies you can hook to your truck. Unlimited dumping at that point. $50 on Amazon.
Funnily enough it crossed my mind that when you were making up those greedy boards that it would have been a good time to put some charge in the batteries as you were near the power source 😜
G’morning Chris. Excellent first loading song ! (It’s not listed in the description). More taller is more better ! Looking nice. Congrats on all of the things. GoodNightIrene
Good Idea adding extra height of wood for your trailer, would you consider using varnish to make the on the wood you added on the sides of your trailer, what are thoughts
If you add a battery in parallel you will get extra amp power. Positive to positive and negative to negative without disturbing the wires to the pump. Its like a team of horses.
Yes, cold batteries don’t last as long, you’ll need some extra batteries 😀 You’ll need to charge the battery on the trailer, the extra weight doesn’t help either.
OH dang... your buyer is calling wondering where you are at "daylights a'burning" as he has some hired helpers waiting to help stack, the loader battery dying, you hit the guys well groomed tree and do a burn out on the driveway leaving a mark, you know later he will be cleaning up that burn mark and thinking all kinds thoughts about you... This is a tough business.
get some battery cable and run from battery to back of truck and use Anderson connectors between truck and trailer and you wont ever have to plug trailer in again. It will let you do as many dumps as you need
I'm new to your channel, please tell me you charge to stack for your customers, to me work is work and we're not getting any younger. Truly like watching your videos, thanks
Yes I do, $20 a face cord or $60 a full cord only if I can back up and stack with out any steps. Much more for hauling in a wheelbarrow. Thanks for watching!
I really get a kick out of watching you figure this stuff out. Probably owe you a case of beer by now for all the short cuts you've showed me. Who needs TV
Ah yes, battery chargers. Work had a 63 GMC with a John Bean Pump that seemed to hold it's own for what it was used for. Basically is was a practice vehicle for learning how to drive stick and operate the pump. I checked the rig out in the morning. Used the hydrometer to check the batteries and all eight needed to be charged. I took the largest wheeled Schumacher charger and started to charge the banks. I ran the extension cord behind the rig, looped the cord through the door handle, and then wrapped the extension cord around the steering wheel. I let the driver know I was working on the rig and that it was hooked up to the charger. Now this was a huge wheeled charger, not a toy. A few minutes later, I hear this rig start up. The driver was going to run up to the hardware store. We had a pickup for that stuff but someone else was using it. I am yelling at him to stop. He cannot hear and obviously he is blind. Crash, Bang, Smash he is headed out onto the apron with everything still hooked up. I had the cord set that he could not open the door. without disconnecting, and he could not turn the steering wheel, but he did. He was a driver who had two speeds slam on the brakes, or jerk your head off during acceleration. The battery banks and charger are on the passenger side. So I am justa probationary fire fighter watching a train wreck in progress. The charger slams into the side metal frame for the overhead door. It is bouncing from the asphalt to slamming into the side of the truck. Oh and the cabinet doors were open to the battery banks so they went through a not yet patented metal brake, where they took on a new unique shape. The carnage stopped when the battery charger wrapped itself around a concrete light pole. The 50 foot extension cord was stretched to 75 feet. I stood frozen. I am thinking if this 50 year old dude was hired number one on the list, what did two and three look like. Then I hear, Ann walk up the street, just the main street in the Village, and go pick up the charger, cord and the door to the engine. The handle was smashed, bent, and then they tell me to find a place to hide it so the Captain does not find out. I buried it amongst other junk, covered it with a hospital blanket and I quietly played taps.
Would it be possible to hook up electric to your truck to power your trailer for when the battery runs down? This would use your trucks electrical system to power the trailer in those rare times where you need it. Just thinkin'. :)
The Battery is charged from the Truck. And the Aux Connection is fused at 20 Amps. With the Truck running and running the Pump with the low Trailer battery there is the Possibly that Fuse can blow. Check the Fuse Chris...
You need to run high amp power cables to pull enough power from the truck charging system. Probably 0 gage (depending on amp load) from the front to the back with a high amp plug. It would be easier to put in a second battery and a solar charger on the trailer.
It happened yesterday. I got the back window in my old dodge 2500. I'm 42 years old and that's the first one. It was just a bad bounce off 2 pieces and just the right tap i guess
@@ChrisLascari Have you gotten an estimate on a replacement yet with the holiday? I haven't bought any auto glass in 20 years but assume it is like everything and has skyrocketed in price...
i bring batery jumper pack with me and put it on battery when dumping if battery sounds low, i only get 1 year out of dump trailer batteries before the battery pack and charger are weekly concern, last year forgot it and used customers car to get power, a little embarrassing
I’ve hauled 3 cords of firewood in my 14’ dump trailer with 4’ walls and weighed in about 2.5tons, depending on wood type. Dry wood is not that heavy for dump trailers.
Hey Rickie! Yup, my brother Ken can get you some wood. Email me your phone number and I can have him call you to set a delivery up! chrisinthewoodyard@gmail.com
