SOAP RECIPE:
Ingredients: (These are my measurements, you should always put your ingredients into a soap calculator online to ensure accuracy for your specific recipe).
32 oz. tallow
4.34 oz. lye
12.16 oz. water OR milk of your choice (I use sheep milk)
1.5 fl. oz. essential oils (optional) I used lavender & rosemary
Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol
Dried herbs/flowers (optional)
1. Prior to making your soap, freeze your milk in cubes. If you're using water you can skip this step. Weigh tallow and melt it down. You can use a crock pot, double boiler or microwave. Try to keep the tallow at 100F, if it goes over, just allow it to cool to 100F before continuing.
2. Put your milk cubes (or water) in a heat safe bowl (I use glass). Wearing gloves and safety goggles, carefully and slowly pour the lye into the milk (or water) a little at a time. Stir gently. Use a temperature gun to continuously check the temperature of your lye. Continue to stir the lye solution until the temperature stops rising. Don't hover over the bowl as the fumes can be harmful.
3. Carefully pour the lye solution into the tallow.
4. Use an immersion blender to mix the soap. Keep the blender under the mixture so that it doesn't splash you as this can cause chemical burns. The mixture will grow creamy. Mix until it has reached “trace,” the light pudding consistency.
5. Add essential oils (if using) and blend to incorporate.
6. Pour soap into mold, sprinkle dried herbs/flowers if using & spritz the loaf with a little rubbing alcohol & cover with a towel.
7. After 24 hours, remove soap from the mold and slice it into bars. Let cure in an area with good airflow for 4 weeks.

I’ve always been a small time gardener. For some reason, I never considered growing potatoes until last year. I also realized that everything I’ve grown, I’ve been able to virtually see the fruit as it blossomed and set. (tomatoes, berries, peppers…etc) To my surprise, as I pulled out my potatoes, I felt like I was opening a birthday present. I had no idea if there zero in the ground or a bonanza. I was thrilled, absolutely shocked, that I grew so many potatoes. The thrill was so much that I have only planted potatoes this year, even Purple Majesty! Anyway, I’m writing to say I appreciate how you share the joys and sorrows of gardening. You have inspired many people, including me!

Tina, I used to have debilitating migraines that used to make me physically sick in my stomach. I used to be a teacher at a preschool when one came on. A father was dropping his child off and he took one look at me and he saw my flour white face. He said, Ms. Janet, are you okay? I said not really. I told him I had a migraine. He told me to take my Advil with a caffeine drink and go to a dark room. I did and 20 to 30 minutes later, my headache was gone. I love the tile in your pantry. When it gets done, you will be able to stock up with your canning from your garden. I know how excited you must be. Joe has done a wonderful job, as always.

Pallets work really well for elevating wood piles off the ground. It helps with drying as well as just keeping away from moisture. A lot of businesses will give them away for free. When they eventually rot away, you can just use them as more wood stove fuel!

I really enjoy watching Sarah get so excited about her bottle, and then the nursing of the sweet little bird back to health. We had that happen with a hummingbird, and it was such a good feeling to finally see him/her fly off after getting breath back. Tell Joe to take 2 splitting blades and weld them to the sides of the original splitting blade. Then he can split into 4 quarters instead of 2 halves and at least double the speed of splitting. Have him also set up a foot pedal for the person running the splitter so Parker can help move the rounds or stacked the split wood instead of sit there pushing/pulling a lever.

I loved absolutely everything about your video. I think it looks real pretty where you cleaned up all the brush around the sheep pen. I know that's really hard work because we have 4 acres. If you didn't do anything but keeping your property maintained is a big job. You You guys do so much more. It makes us happy watching your videos. I pray blessings on your family. ❤

Have you consider planting the potatoes in the empty spaces between the other plants (leeks, squash, etc.)? You could also plant other vegetables that don't spread. Take advantage of the space you have in the raised gardens.

Aah, the joy of a well-stocked woodshed!!! Love those round glass growing bottles - in medieval times bottles like these were stoppered and had water in them to use as magnifying glasses. Sigh, looking forward to filling the pantry, Joe has done such a wonderful job, again.

Good Morning Tina , Joe and Parker. As usual that breakfast looked delicious. I love your new pantry, you and Joe have put a lot of thought into that build and you will have it a cute, cozy, usable room. I like that idea with the sprouts, will have to look into that myself. Joes a pretty smart cookie when he dose or builds anything, always puts a lot of thought into it. The floor in the pantry turned out really nice, good pick. Parker is a good little helper there helping Joe split wood. Those wood splitters sure save the back and time. The home made soaps are fantastic, that’s all I use now which I get from Beekman 1802. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦

Hi Tina, I was so delighted when I saw you crocheting. I am a big knitter and also crochet (as you can probably tell from my youtube channel name). The bird sanctuary near me says that if you hang CDs on the inside of your window you won't have birds hitting the window. I have tried it and can say that it really works. Best wishes!

I’ve actually had several people suggest things like this, or putting stickers on our windows but to be honest, I can’t stomach the thought of dangling CD’s from my cabin or stickers on my window!😬 Just being honest, I think it would look tacky. But that’s just me.😊

Loved the vlog & Tina you always do an awesome editing! It brought back so many memories of time spent with my Grandma- she had a huge wash tub for making soap. When a steer was butchered, soap making followed soon after. We wore neck scarves when she was pouring lye. Blessed Memories! Thanks Tina. 💜👋🏻

Ok. Right away, I want to say that those kinds of headaches suck. So sorry for that. But as always, you came through. You could tell that something was wrong by your expression. We're glad you're doing better now. Other than that, great video guys. It was great to see the family doing "their thing." Parker, as always, is entertaining and funny. And Joe was his usual wild and crazy self. Gonna keep this short, not feeling well myself today, but thank you again for the informative and entertaining family video. We love you, Watson family. Take care, and,as always, we will be waiting anxiously the next adventure. Thank you, and God bless. The LeVeck's

Your nights are cold. Throwing plastic sheets just flat over the soil overnight retains the soil warmth and prevents damage to sprouting seeds. Remove them during the day. That’s what we do until seeds come up.
