This is a very short video of me getting the opportunity to fire some random guy's SVT-40. These things are fucking great.
The SVT-40 was the first successful semi-automatic rifle designed by Fedor Tokarev for the Soviet Union. Refered to in Russian as Самозарядная винтовка Токарева, образец 1940 года ("Tokarev self-loading rifle, model of 1940"). It held 10 shots of 7.62x54mmR and had a nifty muzzle break that reduced recoil and climb. It also used a detachable box magazine at a time in history where this wasnt the norm, although soldiers were still very much instructed to use 2 5-round stripper clips to load it instead.
The SVT-40 went on to inspire the Gewehr 43 but ended up still being the better rifle of the 2. Yet another thing Nazi Germany failed at I guess.
I definitely plan on buying one of these in the future. They are VERY smooth the fire and operate and will eat even cheap Soviet surplus like candy for the most part. Very cool guns.
