The only people who spoke bad about a Gremlin never owned one. I believe time has been kind to the design as it was really the original hatchback or "Kammback" as designer Dick Teague called it. Although Europeans were familiar with the style - not so here in the States. Hence people called it ugly and weird. Gotta give it to AMC and Teague - they were ALWAYS bold. By AMC standards the car was a hit with over 600,000 sold. They were simple, well engineered and for the times economical. The one featured in this vid is phenomenal.
My mom drove a Gremlin from 1975-1985 !! My mom's Gremlin was yellow !!! I use to sleep in the back seat when I was child , on the way to visit my Grandparents !!!
This lady is incorrect about a few items. Original cars were NEVER made with Cotton Denim. Denim does not conform to certain laws pertaining to flammability. The original upholstery was NYLON.What is special about this particular car is that few Gremlin were ordered with a clock; which gave the instrument panel the Hornets' 3-hole cluster. This car also has tilt steering, an extra cost item and also seldom seen on a Gremlin. The car also features Air Conditioning. Levi's Gremlin were available in a multitude of colors (not just white or blue as this lady states). I believe the only colours AMC dissuaded people from purchasing with a Levi package was orange or yellow. But you could get the Levi's package on virtually every other color: black, beige, tan, green, gold, and even Trans-Am Red.
YEA-you are a rare individual who absolutely knows about the Gremlin and AMC products. I salute you. The lady doing this spot wasn't the best choice. She didn't know what engine it had. Didn't know how to open rear hatch window. Thought the gas fill in the rear was unique, when many cars of the era had that feature (introduced by Ford in 1952). I wish more people, such as yourself, focused on correct details.
I bought a brand new Trans Am red with a gold hockey stick side decal, 258 six. It was stunning. Unfortunately it rusted quite quickly but I had it for 9 years. It was a thrill to drive and very fast.
Please, do not start a car and let it run in Park without fully engaging the emergency brake! I've seen cars slip out of Park and into reverse and be off to the races, especially during fast idle. Beautiful car, we called AMC products Kenosha Cadillacs, and I miss AMC to this day. Thank you!
Nope, wrong. Cute, unique, and classic design. & AMC V8's where tough. We are in a low point TODAY with the 3 color options you can get on your fat, plastic, bulbous, generic appliance looking SUV/Cross-(over)-dresser TRASH they call "cars" these days.
