Bro you're a g, taking time out of your life to explain mattress's to folks. It helps alot of people out and most people (myself included) wouldn't have enough patience for this. You're a 10, thanks bro.
*Q: Who should choose a firm mattress?* A: 4:53 ~ Stomache sleepers (4:55) ~ Back sleepers (5:09) ~ People who sleep on top of their matress (5:27) ~ Heavy sleepers (3:01) ~ People who roll over in their sleep (3:23) ~ People who snore (8:38) ~ Everyone.
I prefer firm mattresses, always have. If I sleep on a soft mattress, I wake up with an aching back. However, at some point, firm can be too firm. I slept on an old flippable mattress that was in great shape, and it was too firm, but it was labeled as extra firm. I despise the sensation of memory foam--like sleeping in quick sand.
I thought firm mattresses were healthier, but naturally loved the sinking in feeling of being a side sleeper on a softer mattress, so I was always conflicted. But, I’m glad you said one isn’t definitely better than the other!
I like how you explain how a firmer mattress may keep you cooler by not syncing so much into the mattress. I've never really liked memory foam and this might explain one of the reasons why I don't care for it.
If you put a layer of egg-crate foam on top of a super firm mattress, you will get both support and comfort. I've been doing this for decades with great results (no back pain).
@@anandksrao I think egg-crate foam comes in only one thickness, but different sizes to accommodate mattress size. I've never felt a need to replace the egg-crate foam (the spikey part goes up). You can find it on Amazon.
The materials vary. Memory foam (4") is great. Mine's regular foam (4"). I'll get memory foam when I get around to it. Gel is also available, but I've not tried it.
Soft all the way!!! I have always loved the feeling of sinking into a soft bed, but it is more important to me as I get older with more ached and pains LOL! I really like the feeling of a soft memory foam and it is really wonderful to cushion any sore spots.
@@stormtrooper9839that’s something I’m willing to sacrifice in the summers. But a soft mattress is great for winter it retains all the body heat. I absolutely love soft beds every time I try to sleep in a firm bed it’s so uncomfortable
I used to have a soft mattress, it was very uncomfortable when me and my partner would sleep together, I always woke up with a backache! I got a firm mattress and it fixed the problem
Nice to know about softer mattresses for side sleepers. I guess after sleeping on a futon for 25 years any thing will be softer for me. I enjoy watching your video's as well since you are on the heavier side it helps me make more informed decisions.
Believe it or not. I've been sleeping on the floor for 16 years. Hardwood floor, and I finally got a bed and lemme tell you....my bed feels like heaven.
Funny I’ve been sleeping on a bed for all my life and the floor feels amazing I don’t know what bed you have but my bed doesn’t really support me so thenfloor is super comfortable I need a firmer mattress
Your wooden planks that support your mattress on the bed shouldn't be weak at all and shouldn't have big gaps between each one, if so then change your bedding moreso to a flat board support so there are no gaps and no sinking when you get on the bed. Number two is always have a firm matress as humans are naturally supposed to sleep on the floor as it aligns your back so try to mimic the floor. And if you like abit of soft the just get a memory foam topper but make sure your mattress is firm. Summary: 1. Wooden planks should be very strong and shouldn't be too apart. (Suggest changing to flat board) 2. Making sure your mattress is firm only topper should be soft. (Humans naturally are supposed to sleep on a firmer surface)
As A side sleeper SOFT AND PLUSH FOR ME> I need that extra cushion on my shoulder when I sleep. LIke the Layla, Layla Hybrid, Helix Sunset, Casper Nova Hybrid, Nest Alexandria signature Hybrid in the PLUSH, PUFFY ROYAL, Well you get the Idea..lol
Thank you for your definition.I am glad to hear these information.I bought a soft mattress without listening you and it could be a wrong decision. I will change it with medium firm mattress .😀
Thank you. Very informative. I lean towards the medium-firm mattresses because I favor my stomach. However, I am a combo sleeper at times, on my back and sides and share the bed with my wife who sleeps on her side. So, for us, we should compromise on a medium firm is my take away.
This was very helpful I weigh 200 pounds and I'm sleeping on a plush and I'm going to get a new bed tomorrow cause I thought soft was what I needed but I didn't really think of weight. I do sleep on my side and stomach I'm sure I'll be alright with a firm or medium firm. Thanks for this video
My husband is a strict side sleeper but he does not like soft mattresses or memory foam. It causes him pain, but he has to sleep on his side and says he gets better sleep with firm mattresses
I’ve been using a firm mattress for years and have had horrible back pain and sleepless nights. I finally tried a medium firm and I actually feel comfortable and not nearly as tough falling asleep as a back sleeper.
Got a soft Mattress great for a few months now I have back pain ever since. I can't take it anymore time to get a firm Mattress. What I have been using for year before I got a foam one. Worst purchase ever.
Haing a bad back I need a firmer mattress and definitely a pocketed coil inner spring base, with a midlayer or two of either micro coils or dense foam, and then a pillow top upper layer.
Thank you! Great Video! You've answered a lot of the questions I wanted answered! You've made my decision a lot easier in decided what mattress to buy, I'll go for something in-between soft and firm.
I'm 110 lbs, combo sleeper, I recently got a firm mattress and my back is killing me! i'm really not sleeping well on it. But i also don't like the feeling of sinking in either. Should I consider a semi-firm? with or without springs? thanks a lot for the help!
How are you feeling after an year since you posted this comment? The firmness could be because the mattress was new, and it needed a breaking period, and your body to get used to it. This usually takes couple of weeks to a month.
1. I have a bad back 2. I'm mostly a stomach sleeper (I try to side-sleep but usually wake up on my stomach) 3. I toss and turn quite a bit Not sure if I should: Buy a soft mattress to sink into, to help stop myself from tossing/turning/stomach sleeping, or Buy a firm mattress so that I can sleep comfortably with my current habits Any advice, anyone? (6'3", 210lbs)
Hello! If you mostly sleep on your stomach, you're going to want a firm mattress to give you the support you need. If you get a soft mattress, that back pain could get even worse.
I have a soft bed now... and my back is killing me... i am going firm all the way! im at 250 and i tried the tempurpedic proadapt firm and thought i went to heaven... felt great and i would put it on a 8-9 for firmness
The best bed I ever slept in was at a hotel in Rochester, Mn about 15 years ago. It had to be the softest bed ever, I laid on it and sank, I never wanted to come out of this bed, it was so comfortable, I had one of the best nights sleep, anyone have a clue what type of bed this would be?
I find that firm mattresses are like sleeping on concrete, but also it's nothing like concrete and it's also a really comfortable (not) concrete. I love my firm matress rated 8. And I'm also side sleeper so, comfort is subjective. I hope that I won't have to go back to soft matress at some point in my life
I had a firm mattress for 11 years and we just got a really nice dream cloud and I don’t know if I like it. I wake up with slight back pain. Only on day 4 so will keep u updated 😂
I just ordered a new mattress from Mattress Firm and I got a medium mattress. I didn't want a firm hard mattress. I'm a stomach and side sleeper so I think medium mattress is great. I'm also a cold sleeper.
I'm both back sleeper and side sleeper so I'm researching which fits me best since I had a mild stroke and I want to sleep comfortably and our country has a tropical weather either humid at summer and colder at ber months... And I want to purchase a memory topper with new gel mix and your video helps me to decide if a topper will be my long investment plan soon. Thank you.
For me, soft mattress. I’m a strict side sleeper and need a softer bed for pressure relief and i kinda like to sink into my bed a little. I think a medium soft is the sweet spot for me, soft enough for comfort and still has the proper support that i need. I’m 150 lbs and especially like a hybrid mattress with coils for even better support👍
I am mostly a side sleeper, but end up in every position throughout the night. I wake up about every 30 minutes to an hour to change positions. For reference, I am petite (115 pounds), sleep alone, and am hot natured. have had 2 major shoulder surgeries, but I prefer to sleep on my side which is painful. Throughout my journey, I have tried a Stearns and Foster (too hot and too much cradling/sinking) vispring elite (also too hot and uncomfortable), and currently I am on my trial period for the new purple restore premier firm. My main issue is that everything I try sleeps hot. The other issue is that once I get a new mattress, it feels incredibly comfortable. After a few days go by and the mattress begins to “break in” and the initial cushioning goes down, I am in excruciating pain. The purple mattress I currently have has been the only thing I have tried that doesn’t have me burning up after an hour, but while lying on my back it is too soft from my hips sinking, and on my side my shoulders do not sink enough and I wake up often to change positions. Every morning my body feels all out of wack. If I sleep on my back, I need a medium firm mattress, and if I’m on my side, I need a softer mattress. I do not like memory foam due to sleeping hot, and I prefer to be on vs in the mattress. I haven’t had a good nights sleep in years, and could really use some advice on where to go from here.
I’m feeling overwhelmed trying to find the best bed/softness level. I’m 5’6”, 140. I prefer sleeping on my stomach, sometimes side, and sleep very hot. My issue is I prefer softer beds but have to be careful with back pain when too soft, and shoulder pain when too firm. I think I’m looking for a 5.5-6.0 hybrid bed, but not sure. Can you recommend a mattress for me?
Great videos! What mattress would you recommend for a 100 lb, stomach-side sleeper, that has 0 voc's? (bonus if it is bamboo, and the company uses good environmental practices.) Thank you!
Your wooden planks that support your mattress on the bed shouldn't be weak at all and shouldn't have big gaps between each one, if so then change your bedding moreso to a flat board support so there are no gaps and no sinking when you get on the bed. Soft mattress really isn't good for you. It ruins your body's posture and can create problems like back pain and so on.. It's better with a firm mattress or medium-firm and then just have a good softer top that removes pressure. There just isn't any good support with soft mattress.
Excellent explanation I wish you could do the same thing regarding pillows I have purchased a nectar mattress and am a side sleeper but can't get the correct height/thickness on the pillows! I'm trying and my neck is always hurting..😒
im a stomach sleeper i punch peoples stomachs and put them to sleep, no i mean i sleep on my stomach, for years i slept on a couch and my back would bend this was an old couch so i later aquired lower back pain, i started to sleep on bricks, no i mean i later got a really firm mattress because of my lower back pain and what i actually needed i feel is a soft mattress or balanced definitely not firm specially because its all springs i can feel on my cheek when putting my stomach to sleep
Hi, I want a recommendation for my mattress. I am a side sleeper, sometimes feel pain in the morning, andlike the cloud like feeling however I move around a lot at night so what do you think the best for me?
Tbh I’m not able to tell the difference between these two option’s, I’ve bought an expensive mattress of medium firm for like 899$ and it hurts my back the first time i slept on, the next day i went back to my 99$ mattress (which i honestly don’t know if it’s firm or medium firm/soft) I’m not sure…
I've been using a spring mattress all my life, it's firm, I like to lay on it after a hard day cuz the firmness feels good for my back. But recently I've been looking at the Purple mattress (which is soft?) and just ordered one, I'm scared I won't like it, I'm having them remove my old mattress as well so it's all or nothing 😅
@@iDTecKt it's been great! Not sure if it's worth the hype though. Just feels like a normal bed to me. But it actually has been super helpful for my body, no not aches and pains. I guess a firm mattress wasn't really for me. I got the purple 3
007martini honestly I think we have been brain washed to think soft mattress is the way I’ve slept on Bamboo firm bed and it’s the best sleep I’ve ever gotten since I got a memory foam bed it’s been down hill from there.
Everyone keeps telling me firm mattresses are the way to go but there so uncomfortable to me. I need the mattress to have some give. My back just hurts on a firm mattress and I like to sleep on my side. I’ve been sleeping on soft mattresses all my life and my spine is perfectly fine.
Awesome info, thank-you. But can you tell me where I can find the label that tells me if my mattress is a soft or firm? I don't think I got what I ordered. I have a Beauty Rest Unity Luxury Ocean.
Im a 170lbs strick side sleeper .took adive from every u tuber and purchased a medium firm. Big mistake !! Firm or exta firm is all i will ever purchase for now on ...
My friend has spinal stenosis. She has a lot of lower back pain. She cannot sleep flat facing upwards as it stretches her back. Which one do you recommend ?
What are the major differences between a Sealy Posturepidic Grand Avenue 14" Cushion Firm Pillow Top versus a Sealy Posturepedic 14" Humboldt ltd Cushion Firm Pillow Top mattress?
My wife is pregnant, and she is in 5 month, she use firm mattress, she sleep side , she feels back pain with 4 hour of sleep , What do you suggest firm or soft mattress??
Hello. Out of curiosity, what bed was on 1:31 - 1:33? Its looks super soft and comfy - just what I need and haven’t really had much luck with mattress shopping lately. Thank you!
I spend a lot of time in bed on a count of being bedbound and I plan on getting a new double bed and am looking for a mattress What would u recommend so I don’t end up getting bedsores ?
I want a soft mattress. I normally sleep on my belly but right now that I’m pregnant I sleep more on my side which one would be best? I’m on the heavier side. 200 lbs not pregnant lol
I hear soft mattresses start to sag and lose support after a while. I'm deciding if I wanna get the serta edgefield. I've read that after a short period that it sags and loses support.
so a side sleeper, who runs warm, and tosses and turns through the night needs a firm and soft and medium bed sounds like *ima go cry now* lol this video was helpful
Hmm i love sleeping on the side and stomach, so what do I do, firm or soft? I am personally thinking like medium firm cauze i HATE feeling like the bed is gonna eat me
im a side sleeper but i also don’t like feeling like i’m sleeping inside the bed. I like sleeping on top of the mattress. I’m so confused on what to get.
