They disbanded cause their contracts expired and 4 of the 5 members didnt renew it (the only one that did is hyuna, the rapper) All of them are doing their own stuff now with new companies.. jihyun the leader is an actress now Jiyoon is doing solo music Gayoon is working with fashion.. Some agencies' poor management has cause great groups to disband . 4minute unfortunately fell under poor management. The group was really famous but the agency idk why the hell just was not promoting them as much and would not let them release music for a while. So the girls just decided to do their own thing. Hyuna went solo and so did Jihyun (The blonde one) who said in an interview that: "A part of me wanted to continue 4minute but the members had different paths they wanted to take. It was all different; one member wanted to pursue acting, one wanted to sing, and another wanted to do different music than being an idol."

Super late to the commenting party, but 4Minute was one of my favorite girl groups, and they hold a special place in my heart! So, this comment is for those who want to know more about the group, and their disbandment. 4Minute (포미닛) was a 5 member South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment. The group name "4Minute," stood for the fact that most songs range from 3-4 minutes, and the group would only need a maximum of 4 minutes for people to fall in love with them. The members of the group were Jihyun (leader and vocalist), Gayoon (lead vocalist), Jiyoon (main vocalist and lead rapper), HyunA (lead rapper, main dancer, and visual), and Sohyun (youngest member, sub rapper, vocalist, and lead dancer). The group debuted back in 2009, and gained a huge fan base right off the bat. The group also gained huge recognition due to member HyunA having debuted in another group (Wonder Girls) back in 2007. 4Minute was the first group to be formed by Cube Entertainment, and due to their popularity brought forth many talented individuals to the company. Some other artists under Cube that debuted with hopes of becoming successful like 4Minute include: B2ST (now HighLight), G.Na, BtoB, CLC, Pentagon, and (G) Idle. After 4Minute debuted, Cube decided to launch HyunA on her own solo career. She debuted in 2011 with her song 'Change' and was another instant success. After HyunA's success Cube decided to debut a sub unit consisting of 4Minute members Gayoon and Jiyoon. The unit was called "2Yoon," and unfortunately the unit didn't gain as much success as had been hoped. Around 2011 4Minute debuted in Japan, and gained moderate success. The released Japanese versions of their popular Korean songs, as well as Japanese singles. After the success of HyunA many fans noticed that HyunA would get more lines, more screen time, ans ultimately more spotlight. Around 2013 many fans took to calling 4Minute "HyunA and the Girls." None the less the group continued promote and continued to release amazing music. However, 4Minute's contract was coming to an end and it was unknown if the members would renew. It was later revealed if their song "Hate," would top charts then the group would stay together. However, it didn't and this ultimately led to the members not renewing their contracts. [Side note, Hate was actually produced by popular American dub step artist Skrillex] 2016 was the final year that 4Minute would perform together. HyunA renewed her contract with Cube and promoted as a soloist until last year where she parted ways with Cube. Member Jiyoon would also debut as soloist under the stage name "Jennyer." Former leader Jihyun would later debut as an actress under the name "Son Ji-hyun." Members Gayoon and Sohyun are the only two members to be absent from any kind promotions after 4Minute's disbandment. 4Minute was an amazing group and still hold huge places in many fans hearts!
