Hi Everyone!
Let’s try something new today! I’ve been seeing a fair amount of content regarding how to dry flowers and roses in silica gel. Generally speaking, 80% of my roses (the salvageable ones) go on the side of my fridge to dry when they start to wilt so that I can preserve them and continue to enjoy their bloom even after they would otherwise wilt. I thought, however, that it was time to try my hand at preserving a bouquet of roses in Silica Gel.
Mainly, I wanted to see how it worked, how easy or difficult it was, and how the roses turned out in comparison to air dried roses. You guys know I wouldn’t do this and leave you in the dark if it’s a better method, so we’re testing it out together.
Obviously there were some growing pains with the broken bin and not having enough product, but that’s the whole point of an experiment. We’re figuring it out.
Notes from the first batch, I need to put the roses in a few days earlier when they are still firm and not wilty. Also, it’s definitely important to have enough silica gel to fully cover the flowers.
However, all things, and mistakes, considered, these turned out great! I wish the stem area was longer, but I’ll figure that out at a later time.
Now the rundown:
Pros:
You control the shape the rose ends up as
The color richness is top notch
You won’t run out of fridge clips
Cons:
It’s hard to control the shape
The little beads are really difficult to clear from the flower
You have to cut the stem short
I will definitely be trying this again and attempting to get better at it. If you’d like to give it a shot yourself, I’ve linked exactly what I used down below.
