They omitted the fadeout, which features a few bars from one of Sibelius' symphonies. The songwriters thought it was in the public domain. It wasn't. The Finnish composer's estate sued and got a chunk of the royalties.
@@stuartgarfatth1448. . . Same vintage, Stuart … ‘76’ - that summer of summers; not a cloud from May until September. I grew-up close to a great beach at St. Bees; we were never away on long-summer days, this was oft heard playing on someone’s ‘tranny’ … Best of days, summers - and years!.. Because he neither was interested nor had the time for touring, and preferred studio work. When this became a hit, the producers needed a live act and formed a band with musicians from (f.i.) Edison Lighthouse, the Searchers and The Flowerpot Men. So these guys also did the tv work and we see them here.
They did what they were told--don't distract from the band. :) To be fair, it's a moody song and they were probably thinking of their own high school crushes.
As opposed to doing what while in a TV studio, in which they are watching a band lip-sync the vocals and pretend to play their unplugged electric instruments?
Not done on the record by the bloke singing/miming here though. Tony Burrows (Flowerpot Men/Edison Lighthouse/Brotherhood of Man/White Plains/Pipkins) did the lead vocal for the record and what you hear here.
Lip syncing, this isn't the band that played and sung. They were just fronting for a session band. 70`s studio-based band featuring Tony Burrows (lead vocals) ,Chas Mills & John Carter who had a Worldwide hit in 1974 with Beach Baby. The above 3 musicians had no interest in undertaking any live performances so they recruited 5 other guys to perform most live appearances. The 5 guys in the "live" band never appeared on any of the band`s studio recordings.
Burrows sang lead on the recrd, but i have a hard time seeing him in this lead singer -- maybe he had split by this time and they had this guy lip sync it. I've seen this guy on other videos and he;s not Burrows -- is he????? Much different face than "Love Grows" videos, where Burrows sang lead, too.
@@purselady2 that record was studio recorded with an orchestra, backing singers, and all sorts, probably took a long time, alive attempt would be lame ,
@@ICantStopMakingNoise I think it IS Tony in this video. He's definitely lipsynching but it looks like every picture of Tony I've ever seen. What at incredible voice!
that’s del john singing lead in the video. wikipedia has a decent article about the first claas that explains why the people on the recording that charted aren’t the same people who toured: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_First_Class
