You didn't mention that the "welding school" at Delta started out as a booth with 2 tables and 2 Miller Syncrowave 250's. Then that you turned it into a full fledged actual school. I appreciate everything you taught me 31 years ago!

I am a proud survivor of the Jody Collier Delta Airline Welding Academy. Working as an aircraft mechanic for Delta, I called in every favor I could to get into his program, not knowing I'd strike gold with one of the best educators I would encounter in my lifetime. My career path eventually lead to less hands-on work (also leaving Delta). However, I'm still sticking pieces of metal together almost 30 years later. I will never have Jody's welding talent, but I will also never not be a welder as I continue to learn from him. Thanks again Jody for one of my best life skills.

@Thepipelineman. I dabbled with welding in college. I was able to carry a bead. I am looking to make a career change from IT as AI will take my job in a few years of not sooner. Besides I want to work with my hands. Thanks for telling me that after 35 years you still love welding.

Because of you Jody, I am producing TIG, MIG and stick welds that I am proud of. I have successfully made things from a steel bunk bed to a clothes dryer on castors. I'm currently working on making a recumbent tricycle where I am using your teachings in "walking the cup", not too good to begin with but after a few hours of practice it is coming together. Thanks teacher Jody (I am an English teacher) 👍👍👍👍👍

Been a “student” of yours since you started your channel, JODY! I always LEARN🙏 from you. Started out similar. 1979 started Junior college, criminal Justice. Two weeks in, passed by the welding lab. Asked instructor if I could check it out. BAM! Dropped all classes and got permission and entered the Welding program. Started with bare rod. Great instructor, wanted us all to learn how to strike an arc and to run a bead. Then 6010. We covered it all and I loved it! Couple years later got into IBEW, Local 134. As 2nd year apprentice, had welding. Instructor saw I could weld, had me make jigs for the pipe bending tests. From there stayed an Electrician with my contractor, but did all of the welding for the contractor. Would send me to other jobs where welding needed to be done to support our work. Brackets for pipe risers, supports for surgical lights in hospital operating rooms. Electrical heaters used In manufacturing of railroad locomotive crankshafts, used nichrome wire Tig welding the broken elements. Torch cutting for our conduit to go through pan deck. Heck, first time I saw and used a plasma cutter was for a hospital job in the early 90’s. Aluminum contactor boxes for a operating room. Anything that touched electrical work was “our work”. Enjoyed every moment of it. Now at 62, I just put in my papers. Still do some electrical work for friends, and a whole lot of welding work (just not on my back on the ground anymore). This video was such an inspiration! You really give those kids taking up this incredible profession, HOPE and something to strive for in life! God Bless JODY, Thank You! ⭐️🙏😇

I welded pipe for 32 years. Anything from stick, tig, mig,flux-core, sub arc etc... I miss welding for sure but most of all, I miss the people I worked with over the years. Welding is not an easy job to b honest but a very fulfilling job. I've watched ur videos for years and even an old hand like me can learn something new. Thank u Jody for ur insight into the trade. In closing, I had an instructor in school in 1975 tell me that a welder will never get wealthy but he (or she) will never have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Their bills will b paid, roof over their head & food in the house. It's hard work but honest work. Take care Jody & God Bless.

THE GODFATHER... THANKS brother for years of one-sided lessons. I'm now a retired sheet metal worker local #28 NYC, the last 15 years of a 35 year career was as a welder (old, fat and slow what else was I going to do). Thru your RU-vid videos it's helped am peers, and apprentices succeed as Welders. I always pass on knowledge and tools to those with to learn and improve their station... In LU#28, Welders are the JEDI of the trade: everyone's seen the work, no one's really exclusively committed to it, you're like smoke... Hundreds of "my kids" (apprentices) have followed you, and Bob at WELD TUBE. TRUE GENTLEMEN THANKS AGAIN BROTHER FOR SHARING Bronx Love 😎😎😎😎😎😎

I'll add another school you've taught, nearly every Formula SAE Team I've talked to has spent hours on your channel learning to weld their chassis together. The amount of information you've made available here is astounding, and there are engineering students all over the country that are much more knowledgeable because of that.

I have been watching your videos from the start of the channel. You have a gift of teaching that only a few of the best teachers have. Not only can you do A grade welding your self, but you can explain what to look at and why things happen the way they do so students can correct mistakes. Your videos made my welding on the farm go from black magic that sometimes works and other times don't. To predictable results and me realizing when im going to be able to fix something and when Im better of just bringing it to a professional shop. Thanks for your service

I just pulled over to look for work at a local fab shop after hearing your video Jody. I’ve asked for work in many places, (union ironworkers included) with no luck. Maybe it’s the times we’re in that work is slow, but your video and advice gives me fuel to keep trying.

I've been watching your videos for years and I can't believe I never knew that's how you got started in welding..Funny thing about that is, I was going to go into the Navy but my buddy said let's just go to college. This was when I was 09, and a couple years after high school..So I went to sign up a week before school started and I wanted to be ij automotive so I could always work on my car..They said you gotta sign up year in advance so I was thinking at this point I was gonna wait til next year..I said what else do you have, They said we got 1 spot in welding left..I said sign me up..I like you, knew nothing at all about welding nor had any friends or family that welded..Crazy! About the same exact story! Cheers Jody!

9:40ish, you're dead right, sometimes you're going to end up in a place where you're just plain unhappy, for whatever reason(s). Hang in there, keep your work ethic up, keep working hard - IMO it's less tiring than laying back and 'taking it easy' - keep your skills up, keep your eyes open and you may find someone's looking for someone who is capable and a worker. Worst case, you're getting an income while actively looking for another job. Oh, on that last, remember that just as they're interviewing you for the job, you should be 'interviewing' them, too, because it's easy to fing yourself in another job just like the one you left. It doesn't need to be overt - what sort of questions were you asked, who was asking them, how interested were they in your experience and qualifications, etc. If they show you your potential work area(s) - is it clean and tidy, are the potential co-workers looking relaxed or stressed, is the equipment new-ish and well looked after rather than old and worn out, etc. Check on-line for what sort of reputation is has, if possible, check the staff turn-over - the amount of vacancies may be suggestive, etc. The US is kinda weird in some ways - so what sort of health plans do they have, what about leave/holidays, etc. If you have to travel, what affect does travel time and fuel, etc, costs affect your net working day and net pay after those expenses? I've known people to quit for another job that paid a dollar an hour more, but added a couple of hours to their work day (leaving house to return) and ate up the extra pay, and then some, in fuel costs.
