We have teacher work days in Canada. They’re just called “in-services”, usually there are professional development opportunities built into parts of the day! They’re awesome because it feels like a full prep day 😌 I’m a new subscriber, enjoying your content!

I'm in Scotland so granted may be very different. Its funny attendance came up in this video as it has been something my 13 year old daughter has really struggled with the last few weeks before end of term, and again yesterday. My daughter left primary school the year of covid and therefore did not complete the year and was thrown into the very deep end at high school. This has impacted her education and mental health Immensely. I can't even tell you how much. To get her into school we go through so much everyday. It's heartbreaking to watch as a parent... And so stressful. I hope the little kids from your class and District aren't struggling with this also. As a teacher I understand the struggle, I am one... However for the student and parent... Its so much more. Not saying this to be negative in any way at all as I love your content... However it struck a chord. Subscribed as a teacher who works in a juvenile detention centre in Scotland, and interested in the way education works behind around the world.

Also, I wanted to add about the pencils! Omg, do I know the struggle!!! It seems like they would either disappear or be sharpened down to nothing with no eraser left and full of germs. I teach 4th grade and due to the pandemic I decided to give each student a ziploc bag with 10 pencils, one extra eraser, and a highlighter so that everyone has the same amount at the start of each week. Every Friday I sharpen pencils and check the condition of them. Students with all 10 pencils in fair condition get to pick from a small prize box. It has really helped with them being more responsible with pencils/and class supplies and now I have a designated student to use my sharpener and it works out well for us (and me, less touching pencils)

Something that I do (because even in 4th grade it happens. Especially at recess) is that the kids have to tell the adult at recess. I only have recess duty 1 day a week. When I go pick them up because I wasn’t out there I won’t listen to it. The adults normally tell me. I always stress that they have to tell the adult out on duty. This has helped tremendously.

+Madison Campbell One thing . Back when I was an autistic school student I had to sit next to someone who was not my friend and I got picked on , hit , etc . and I called out to My Friend and My Friend and I still managed to joke together , etc . I said that to say this . 1 . I hope that they are also next to a peer that they will get along with or else you will have a much worse situation developing versus not being able to teach over them or teach any content into them . 2 . If they want to speak to their friends because they are not aligned with the lesson that you are teaching then they will make a way to speak to their friend which includes them calling out to their friend(s) whereas them sitting next to their friend will mitigate a fight or them having to call out to their friend(s) . The best way to have the students learning what you are teaching is doing what it takes to gain their interests in the subject matter at hand . With that said , I hope that you all have a Happy 2022 . Keep on sharing your experiences and your vlogs because I love them and your classroom and your beautiful looks . - Dwight

My district is Missouri is the exact same way with attendance. Even in elementary school, I'll have 1st graders gone for 2-3 days days in a row. It's difficult catching them up while trying to maintain a good learning pace for everyone else.

Yes, the first week back is always a challenge. How has the tattling been since you gave them the new expectation? I hope that the three minute tattling seesion will be helpful. If you have kids who still use the bathroom during class time, invest in a large table calendar with lines on it. If students do need to use the bathroom during class time, then have them write their names on the calendar. If you notice that the same kids continue to go, then you can write a note to the parents to let them know that you are concerned about their children and how they are losing precious learning time. You can also write in the note that the students have been given many opportunities to use the bathroom (recess, lunch, before school) and that you want their children to be successful. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week.

Our schools in Ontario, Canada are we’re out for two weeks for Christmas break and now they don’t we were supposed to go back on January 3 no they’re going back they took an extra two weeks we’re going back on January 17th due to the new virus. We got new pro calls the teachers and students and parents go to have to do as of the new virus. And we have staff shortages.

Another idea with tattling is to make them write it on a sticky note for you..I say it’s for privacy, but if they have to write it, they often decide it really isn’t important 😂😂

Tattle telling is the worst. But my daughter was getting unset an complaining she wasnt being heard.i was upset to because I didn't feel her issue was being dealt with.A certain kid was being mean saying mean things to her. Simple things like why you wear a pigtail or dress. Stupid stuff.But it's a big issue to her she come home crying. So I'm not sure what the solution is. I think on Friday ever teacher should have a few minutes of what happened, why did you have a ruff week, what hurt your feelings this week. Give them a few to vent, and teach them how to not be ugly to others, an how deal with these feelings. To me it's bullying an why kids commit suicide. They need to be able to express their feelings and learn how to talk an work things out. Not hold it in and act like it's no big deal. Its sad but some kids are just not taught manners an respect at home or have a good homelife where they have someone to turn to when their upset.

I teach 3 year olds, and they don't complain when I tell them to go put their ipad away. Maybe you can try a nice brain break so they will be more willing to put their ipad away.

Ah the joys of being back - it's always hard to get back into the rhythm of the work day isn't it? I feel a bit awkward saying this, but I find your teaching content by far the most interesting and feel your current mix of personal and professional is pretty well balanced (partly because I'm probably not your target audience - don't wear makeup, have no interest in other people's clothing "style" especially not elegant, young, slender people's style (I'm chunky, middle-aged and everything crumples or straggles as soon as I go near it, always did), and generally am at a different life stage). If you decide to make the channel no-teaching, lifestyle focused for a year, I hope that works out great for you, but I'll either unsubscribe or at least just not watch. Good luck with your exciting year ahead!
