My child was in an online public charter before Covid and it is far better than traditional school for him. The schedule is flexible, teachers are available for one on one help, and the curriculum can be customized to each child’s abilities. You cannot do it the same way you do traditional school. It requires a whole new approach to learning. I feel so bad for all the kids stuck doing this with teachers who don’t have the training or resources to do this right. You can see how much she cares and wants to do it well but this just isn’t how you do it.
It's not always safe, I teach in a very rough area....as soon as I try to unmute students, there is always a parent cursing in the background, a child getting yelled at- some kids only have school as their safe place

I agree with you! Yesterday and today, I am having issues with my internet at home. This afternoon, I noticed that my computer is losing its internet connections while I am teaching my fourth-period class. I prayed so hard to God. I asked God to let me finish teaching the class without interruption. And he answered my prayer immediately. I finished teaching the class and gave my last instruction before I lost my internet connection. God is so good all the time!
I am a first year kinder teacher and I started out ROUGH! I BOMBED my first evaluation and I knew I needed help. My team was amazing at giving me advise but I needed more to actually see things happen the way it needed to happen. My classroom management was very poor so I started looking on RU-vid and I found you! I watched, took notes, and tried out new things in the classroom as if it was day 1 again. I knew I struggled with being consistent so I tried harder and eventually it all just clicked. Your videos helped me so much! Seeing how things are done, being positive to the children, and your advise of never calling out a student helped my anxiety to want to fix a problem right then and there. I took everything you had to say and I implemented a new management system, rearranged my classroom, and just listened and learned to everything. I just wanted to say thank you! You are amazing and I love your videos :)
Thank you for this! I will be a first year teacher and I didn’t have any experience with distance learning, so if we do end up starting online, I’m starting from scratch! I don’t know yet what our plan is which is stressful, but this at least gets me thinking about how I can prepare
Loved your advice on prayer. I am a new teacher and I am not use to hearing/seeing teachers talking about their faith. Thank you for this reminder that God is close to us in all areas of our lives, even our careers.
You are amazing! Greeting for me is very important. I do not foresee a virtual class for my kind of population for a while. However, it is important that we meet and greet every child and parent at the door daily. I think it sets the tone for the day. A welcoming smile,a hug,a touch on the shoulder, some kind words...can be a reassurance to the child that there are fun-learning experiences ahead and to the parents, that, their child is in safe hands☺
I just want to say, I used your good morning strategy of saying good morning to each of the students and them replying with my name along with a good morning this week... And they did amazing and you could tell by end of the week students could not wait for me to call their name and say good morning to them! THANK YOU!

Yes in Microsoft teams we have a “raise your hand feature”. But if I am sharing my screen, I can’t see the kids raising their hand. So, I use both my computer and my phone. My phone to see if someone raised their hand and the computer to share.

A blessing that our school had was a prayer circle! We were able to gather together before school as staff and pray together. It helped me soooooo much as a first year teacher! Praying is key before starting one's day. 🙏🏾 Teaching procedures and routines are so vital for the beginning of the year. Now we have to add virtual learning to it. One thing I will do this year is have a meeting with my parents. Discuss my expectations, what students should do, and support of parents. Next year, I will have two sets of 3rd graders on different days. My district chose a hybrid approach. I get to see them and teach in person. It was absolutely a game changer because it notifies you that someone raised their hand. I love your softness and calm attitude. I was looking for online get to know you games for 6th graders entering middle school. I have been teaching 7th and 8th for 15 years. I ran across you starting to talk and stopped to listen. Thank you for the reminders about expectations. They are often forgot about in planning what presentations and curriculum will be used in what order. We are so caught up in these things that we forget the basics - the foundation for the rest. Same analogy with God is our foundation to help us spread the word and help others be the best they can be. You do that!
We are starting school online in Arizona :(. I will be teaching kindergarteners online. Honestly I rather be in person but teaching means so much to me I will do whatever I have to to make it a positive experience for my kinders!

Miss May I am a 29 year old woman and would LOVE to have you as a teacher! Haha. Your videos are not only so helpful but so calming! Heading into my 7th year teaching K (8th year total) and have no clue what it is going to look like! Virtual teaching was like a nightmare that wouldn’t end (my kids and parents were amazing and nothing but supportive... but the workload? Lord have mercy). Thanks for the suggestions Miss May! I’m from the US, but currently teaching first grade at an international school abroad. We are not on summer break yet. This video came at a good time for me. Just today I had to end a Zoom meeting with my firsties early because someone kept drawing on the screen (despite my warnings) and the other kids couldn’t see the work I was sharing properly. :( I couldn’t figure out the culprit and of course, none of them were owning up to it, haha. So I explained to them how they have to listen or else this is what was going to happen. But my teacher heart was so sad to have to do that! I have to try and figure out how to disable that feature for our upcoming meetings.

The last video I saw of you you -was at the start of COVID you were packing up your kids things I think and you were tired big dark sunglasses that’s all I remember. My favorite video that our school chuckled to was in March we decided at least we aren’t being bombarded with testing hiding under the table eating chocolate!
