Follow along my first day with an MPE MIDI Controller, the Joué Play. Learn what this MPE / Midi Polyphonic Expressions controller is all about. We try out various MPE compatible plugins like Phase Plant, Logic Pro Alchemy. I also had to try the Joué out with Omnisphere 2 although it's not directly MPE compatible (quick workaround is to direct all midi channels to channel 1 (with Logic scripter) If you want I can show how to do this in another tutorial. There's a FAQ at the end of the video where I answer some common questions regarding the Joué and MPE controllers in general.

Thank you Mattias, I’m interested in getting an MPE controller, a bit confused between Erae Touch and Joué -obviously the cost variation- guess I’ll go for Joué after all!

Yeah Joué is obviously the cheaper choice but still a very sweet controller package. We're having tons of fun with it in the studio! 🍿🔥

Logic Pro and Bitwig mostly, and Omnisphere vsti or some other synths like Zebra 2.

I’d love a Linnstrument or a Roli. Osmose is very interesting, but I don’t like the synth engine (so really don’t want to pay for it - just give me a controller version).

Just to make one thing clear: It does not come with the MIDI cable, that is an extra and at the moment out of stock.

If you buy the fire edition / water edition it comes with usb cable, check at Thomann. No Midi cable / adapter though. But adapter from usb-c to type A, and usb-c to lightning (for iPad/iPhone device connection).

@@MattiasHolmgren Yes, no midi cable. I hope they will bring it in stock soon. Also the usb cable it comes with it is not so great. I had serious connection problems with it. Once i replaced it with a better one all problems gone

Can we use this independent of computer as an instrument?

Hi, nope joue is a midi controller and required a compatible device with sound generators (like computer / iPad with daw or plugin instruments). They also have some instruments available via web browser app.

Hi, yeah the Joue is very fun little instrument. Oh I just tried all the links. They should work and you will arrive at a Joue page with a discount code to get the €15 OFF code. The link takes a few secs to direct.

@@MattiasHolmgren Thanks for checking. The links work and i get the redirect with the code, but the code applied at checkout doesn't seem to work. I also found another affiliate code and tried that, which also didn't work, so i think it's probably an issue with their website. If/when the time comes and i decide to buy and it still doesn't work, i'll let them know (using your link ;-)

I just learned from Joue that The discount code (at the affiliate link) is ONLY for the Joue Pro Fire Edition - Full board (4 pads)! Apparently its not a store wide discount… hope the info helps.

@@MattiasHolmgren Thanks for following up. I was trying to apply discount to the water edition, since i liked the blue color more. Weird that they wouldn't treat these the same, so i might follow up with them, but at least we know what the issue was. Thanks again!

Nice video thank you. I would like to point out that in French jouir and jouer have VASTLY different meanings. Therefore every time you say "joui" instead of "joué"... I smiled a wee bit too wide :D Bien joué, donc!

Yeah that seems to be a big sweat instrument. Esp with the bundled software Equator 2. Joue is very portable MPE controller and comes with an iPad app, that’s its strength I guess. 🎉🐣☕️

A bit useless lot of information. You have to have connectors to connect, no mention, you have to download sofwear, no mention, no usefull addresses to use the instrument, nothing except video images. Nice but it doesn`t help anyone. Oh your not here to help, I see. Oh yes there is a help address but it only to make your commission, I feel sick.

Let me ask you... How many musicians/composers buy synths, recording equipment, and other related gear yet never make a dime? Having been in the business for over four decades, I can tell you that it's all a big scam. The manufacturers, music schools, etc. shamelessly scam people knowing damn right well that only a handful of people will be successful. I think it's tragic and unethical.

What you search for in a sea is what you get. Some come out empty handed, some pick fish, some pearls. Many piano players learn about 10 songs in their entire career and die. Up to the individual to learn. Just do not over estimate your learning skills that you can do this or that. Everybody has a limitation on how much they can do, but do not realize and blame others. I'm talking about products that the manufacturers design to be sold to professionals, gear junkies who think that the newest piece of gear will be a substitute for the musical skills that they are missing. It's a big scam my friend. The manufacturers as well as sample library creators are hoping to keep the hope alive in order to make huge money knowing damn right well that the ROI for almost everyone will be zero. I'd call that pretty unethical.

I think it’s up to each and everyone to define what they want with their journey in any skill. While it’s not up to me to defend how/what the companies goal and marketing intention is. But from what Ive seen in the Joue Play website & marketing is that the target audience is people / families who just want to have fun and make sound and music. A fun music instrument they can hook up to their iPad / computer and make music with. Not that this piece of gear will make them more successful. 🥁 Where did you read / get the impression the it is about success or becoming rich?
