So happy the driving experience is excellent. That was the last piece they needed for this to be a hit as many a sold on the beautiful looks. Really rooting for the Polestar team! They are doing amazing work and I hope this is a hit.
100% agree with the "fast estate" comment. Proportionally, it's definitely a lifted wagon, more like an XC70 or an Audi Allroad than an i5 or an XC60. In fact, a few months back, Jim Rowan (Volvo's head honcho) said maybe it's time for a fully electric estate. I would be wholly unsurprised if the Polestar 3 exchanged its tracksuit for pinstripes and became the Volvo EV90.
@@TheSteinbitt it's straddling a blurred line, if you ask me. It has estate proportions, but it's styled like an SUV/crossover and wears the platforms of slightly lifted suspension. In Volvo form, I imagine it would sacrifice a little bit of aero efficiency to square off the rear end and add a window, and it would sit lower, but would retain the overall proportions.
@@ashliehiggins they have to follow the numbers. Sales of estates were plummeting in favour of more fashionable but more compromised SUVs. It wouldn't pay them to develop a new estate to replace the V60 and V90. If, however, they can copy Polestar's homework and drop development costs low enough, the numbers *might* stack up.
They are not spoilers. A spoiler has air flowing only on one side. When air flows on both sides, then it is a wing. So there you have it. They are wings 😊
I may be speaking to early but there is no 'hate this new Top Gear' and 'old Top Gear was better' comments so far. That is refreshing. Tom is a good presenter and I personally enjoy his reviews. Top Gear RU-vid is a different approach to motoring journalism, its factual, and less of the entertainment shenanigans that the 3 musketeers did. I loved the era of Top Gear with the 3 musketeers, but this era of RU-vid Top Gear is just as enjoyable in my opinion, albeit for different reasons.
Looking at the interior pictures of the XC90 on the Volvo website I'm seeing a lot of common components* - which is NOT a bad thing. (* Wheel & buttons. linear air vent across the dash, central B&W speaker, portrait screen etc.) When I win the lottery I would prefer this overall look & setup (5 vs 7 seats),
Tom another awesome video, you are the best. Polestar is really great at making beautiful EVs and tech is just at the top, can't wait for Polestar 4 or even more for Polestar 2 on dedicated EV platform 😊❤❤❤
For this guy to say when it’s set to firm steering that it’s still super light is crazy. I have driven the polestar 3, and I’m going again tomorrow to drive it
The cost is soooo high. I like Polestars apperance better than Rivian (and cybertruck hahahaha) but that cost is just too high currently. Also give us buttons. no more tablets that i have to scroll through 5 menus and kill a squirrel when scrolling menu 4.
@@Himcoryes and the speech UI from Google alsoworks really well, had my P2 for 3 years so I know. I rarely use any submenus while driving thanks to this. Just use the speech button on the wheel to start and then say play song, address or whatever.
@@petehelme7714yes but just use the speech UI, it is great and one of the main reasons I chose a car with Google Automotive, which at that time narrowed it down to Polestar only
Very nice, potential replacement for my Model Y (suspension like a go-cart). Albeit, does it have an app (warm up car from bed) and price would be painful.
The hump in the back weelarchers is as usual from the VOLVO 121, 140/145, 240/245 and so on.... They always have the shelves at the back. A signum its a Volvo.
Looking to replace my 2014 Range Rover autobiography, really want to go Electric. So far this would be my preferred option, far more class and style than the German options & Probably far cheaper than the Range Rover when it finally arrives.
this is a car for people who like to drive, and want to pay for it, it is not a mass market car. There a re plenty of options; you can choose Renault who also use the awesome Google automotive system.
Got to admit, the way Tom presents really makes this easy to watch Car seems good for what it is just have to admit it inspires no strong desire any which way in me Guess I'll stick with preferring the Polestar 2 for now
I personally find the interior of these Polestars like Tesla... so empty and minimalist. Is there a cover for the sunroof (which cannot open) by the way? The iX has a much nicer interior, more space in the back I think and the possibility to shade the roof panel (can still not open it seems). They also got camera cleaning... have not seen that much on Ev's yet
Efficiency?? 110kwh 🤯 = less than 400 mile range??? I REALLY want to love Polestar. I love their design ethos and what they stand for. But making such a big car with such a massive battery that delivers such crap efficiency is not sustainable and - frankly - defeats the whole point of why we should buy EVs Need to think again Polestar - and every other manufacturer than thinks sub 4 miles per kWh is acceptable.
An official figure of ~3.64 mi/kWh is not too bad for a large SUV like this. Officially, the BMW iX xDrive50 and Audi SQ8 eTron only achieve 3.48 and 2.56 mi/kWh respectively so the Polestar is actually pretty decent when compared to its equally powerful rivals 🤷♂️ From a CO2 emissions perspective, in the U.K. anyway, even what you deem as being poor still results in it achieving the equivalent of 245 mpg when compared to an equivalent petrol or diesel. Somewhere with a much “dirtier” grid like the US results in it still achieving the equivalent of 101.8 MPG (imp) or 84.77 MPG (US). You really think a ~500 bhp large petrol SUV can come anywhere near that? I mean the equivalent petrol BMW, Mercedes and Audi SUV’s with similar performance only officially achieve 23-25 MPG (imp) or 19-20 MPG (US)
In conclusion, THIS IS THE BEST POLESTAR THAT POLESTAR CURRENTLY MAKES. Dude, Polestar has the P2 in mainstream markets. And it's 3x the price of a P2... Good job
Its a Volvo . That's not a diss and it's not a bad thing it's my favourite brand obviously but brings me to the conclusion if this is what they are doing to from their own identity then i don't think geeky should have let it . Honestly should have remained Volvo's performance devision there was so much more potential in doing that and would have given them greater fighting power against the big three as time progressed. They dropped the ball honestly and are giving up such a untapped potential that only required I feel more time, more ranges and more investment and maybe going racing to faster produce there tech, entering F1 that would have been cool and create amazing brand exposure. Look at Audi it's getting more attention cause of it joining and it hasn't even built or started racing yet

As a driver of a Polestar 2 I’d stick with the German offerings!! You mentioned suspension knocks, I’m into my fifth month of Polestar’s efforts to sort mine!
@@RichardJones- Sorry to hear that, I have driven more than 90000 km or 56000 miles with my P2 for three years and had zero suspension issues, and only minor other issues
@@thomaswestin9987 after 7 months and three failed attempts to sort it I’m giving the car back. Dreadful service by Polestar really and won’t have another!
I’m not really a fan of the brand, if I wanted a car styled like a Volvo I’d rather have Volvo on the badging. I wish they never split the brand and just kept polestar for the fast Volvos and kept these as the Volvos.
I dont think 0-60 in 2. whatever seconds is something you do once or a party trick, thats real world performance, away from lights, overtaking, climbing hills... 99 percent of cars including electric cars handle perfectly fine at the speeds most people will be using them so i think asking manufacturers of electric SUV's to focus more on handling as if real world roads are race tracks is frankly nonsense and very ''motoring journalist'' thinking. When you live with the car in the real world the suspension needs to be compliant enough to deal with potholes, it needs to be comfortable and it needs to be punchy enough to do what you want when you want it in regards to overtaking lorries, tractors or chavs in corsa's. We have cars designed to corner flat and stable but compromise on comfort, they are sports cars. Everybody wants a family sized car that can scare a Porsche at some lights and go the distance they need while being comfortable, i dont think we need electric cars to reduce performance in favor of cornering like its a track and if thats what you want, cars like the Ioniq 5 N are showing us its possible to get there.
The real future, meaning the now and near-term, is plug-in hybrids. They haul ass, can be used battery only for normal days, and then go the distance when necessary. Just drove Volvo’s top of the line S60 recharge, with the polestar option, and it was very satisfying.
Well no make has a self driving option to be trusted. Not now and probably not by next year either. I personally couldn't care less. I enjoy a good drivers assist system. But a full self driving system, even if it could be trusted I have absolutely no interest in
@@mackan7086 yes the point of having a Polestar is the driver experience, so I do not want self driving. That being said, there are of course use cases for self driving, for instance some groups disabled people is one
@@pjayx7320 It is designed in Gothenburg in Sweden, engineered in the UK, manufactured in USA and China, computer hardware and software from USA. The car industry is global.
Why do you need to know all of your consumption figures? Surely you just put your foot down and go as fast as you can. Not once have I looked at mpg so why the huge interest in ev to show all this data ?
I don't care about only range & size of the batter... I care about efficiency! Please please begin to mention the battery efficiency (i.e. 3.9 miles/kwh) as the primary metric when discussing electric cars. Of course anyone can slap a huge 100+kw battery into a car and say it's got great range... this king of automotive manufacturer marketing is lacking & does not contribute to the advancement of efficient BEV's!
Rather than SUV maybe should be called a SEV = sports estate vehicle. As this is similar to the Subaru Forester or Audi Allroad, like a jacked up estate rather than full SUV.
It’s nice, but extremely pricey, many more inexpensive E SUV options out there. It’s not priced for mass market adoption like the VW ID4, or even Polstar 2, but at the high end luxury market of low sales.
Almost a good review. For jeg just a bit too much, "See how fun and hip we are", that just doesn't work. Just keep it professional and it'll be great. Thanks.
@@barrywhite5899 - "mentalists" 🤣 My new BMW iX (£80k) costs me £700 a month and that includes insurance, maintenance and tyres for 3 years. Yes, it's a lot of money but people aren't forced to buy new cars. It's also saving me over £6k in fuel costs over the same time period, and allows me to join an EV energy tariff, which means I can run my house on cheaper energy too. So overall, the cost to run a new £80k EV for years is much less than many people realise ⚡👍
