First eastern counties bus - Magdalen street roadworks fail

The signs state road closed, no access for any vehicles EXCEPT BUSES the confusion these signs and directions caused on January 26th 2015 is beyond belief, and the work started late in the afternoon. The road was open up until 3pm by which time you would not have expected work to start. There have been far to many works scheduled for January throughout the county, bus companies plan ahead and then the planned Works get changed and everyone blames the bus companies for something that is beyond their control. I phoned Norwich city council for clarification on the works in this video and after being put on hold for what seemed like an eternity, got told it was a county council works, I then phoned the county council who again put me on hold and eventually came back on the phone to tell me that I need to speak to Norwich city council. Seemingly neither authority new what was going on and were happy to pass the buck to and fro. Meanwhile, the city is in chaos and the bus companies are getting the blame because buses are having to navigate through issues that are not of their own making. Personally I congratulate the driver seen in this video for his/her professionalism in the manoeuvre carried out with a large vehicle on a narrow road. I'm sure that most of the people responsible for the utter chaos, be it city or county council, could not have done that in a car. WELL DONE BUS DRIVER! True professionalism always shines through in difficult situations.

This just goes to show what a Bus Driver is faced with - day to day. Top marks to the driver ! ! AA++ - At least it gave the air tanks a good compression test ...

They should have made the signage clear saying NO VEHICULAR ACCESS. Why the hell did they say EXCEPT BUSES??? The driver did well to turn round here, given the amount of overhanging street furniture. However, he should not have been placed in that position and why weren't the company informed on a complete closure..........except buses would normally mean access for buses.........this road was evidently CLOSED.....not the driver's fault. Boy did well.

Regardless of the dodgy signage, surely getting someone to help guide him to back up to where there was more space to turn might have been a smarter move ?

My son works at Norwich computers and i had to drop him off to work, On Monday before 9am the road was CLOSED !!!!!

I can see why this might be funny to some people but not to sound like that guy, these situations are really not funny. The inconvenience these stupid and not thought out road works causes for public transport is beyond a joke. People rely on buses to get to work and silly things like this happen when it shouldn't. Something needs to be done about this.

First drivers are the worst! Stagecoach (which is not the operator where I live ) is the best! Transdev , nearest to me, isn't either because yesterday I boarded the 1a! It was ment to turn at the next road but it didn't. I jumped out my seat and told the driver he was going the wrong way he turned around reversing into a side street! It was quite frustrating And funny!
