For now. Awesome to see this nascent technology finally get some practicality, if not perfect. It will only get better, and Sea-Doo will be announcing electric lineups soon, too. Exciting stuff! :D
If you use it every week, sure. If it's a toy you buy thinking you will use it all the time, and then don't (most people), the lack of required maintenance I am sure is better with this thing. Also, depending on where you are, your neighbours will appreciate it, and often times, that is a quality of life issue :)
@@MWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWWWMMMWMWMWMMWM Exactly. EV's are still way out to overtake ICE. Plus there is still too much controversy if there is enough resources to make batteries. Then there is the disposal............ However yes it is a cool toy.
I can't believe that the sea-doo was keeping up with that plane even after takeoff!!! The electric sea-doo looked kinda slow compared to the gas powered one...
Hah. In reality, carbon fibre is an amazing material, just not great for that specific Titan submarine purpose. It's amazing when used correctly! I fly planes that use a ton of carbon fibre in their design.
@Steve-tf1wv indeed - there's nothing wrong with carbon fiber when used properly. I can cut myself with a knife and call it stupid, but everyone knows I'm the real fool for not using it properly.
Great review! Screen could be better to see in the bright sun. Love the quietness of the PWC. Would say it needs to be AS GOOD AS OR BETTER THAN THE SEA DOO in ALL ASPECTS including: reliability, ease of use, "refueling", costs, transportation, service center availability, etc. It's a GOOD IDEA and a GOOD START but... you know to slow and too expensive and too long to charge and doesn't go a full day's worth of fun under the sun😜
Excellent idea. If the battery size is no larger than say a suit case, they could also be made swappable. Could be back on the water in less time than it takes to refill a gastank.
2hr range…wonder if that is at full throttle 😅 I’ll stick with my gas powered sea-doo’s, these would be good for one of those tourist rental companies that only let you ride within a boundary.
Charging seems like it would be an issue. You can do a quick splash and go on a regular wave runner and be up and running again. It’s probably fine for lake houses that charges while it’s docked.
Nice set up I like the design and the green color. But the price is just crazy and the battery doesn’t last as long as I expect for an almost 30k vehicle .
Seadoo probably has the 1.6L 300HP Rotax 1630 ACE engine. Probably has more HP than the plane. Electric should work pretty well, just get used to the battery life and have power by the dock or yacht. It could have hydrofoils for super cruise. 25kWh today is actually less than 2500$ for the cells so there is really no cost issue with them. I'm guessing Rotax charges at least 10grand for that engine. So the battery could be bigger and it could have more HP if necessary
Its not there yet. Only 1 1/2 hour run time then you need to charge. If you go out camping or my skies are being used all day by family and friends. So you would need infrastructure at the marine docks to support this type of vehicles. They would also need quick charge capability in order to get back on the water fast. The only way I could see this working is if there were electric boats being sold so you know there were be plenty of charging points on the lakes. Cool idea and cant wait to see this in the future!
Electric ski's will only get better. Can't wait. I hate dealing with fuel sitting in my ski for months during the winter, oil changes, replacing the motorcycle battery every other year.
To be honest I have never been a fan of high speed watercraft. Mostly because of the noise and irresponsible operation. But I could learn to like this electric version knowing they are much better for the environment. Now about those operators...
It's only 160hp somewhere in the low-mid rpm range. Jet pump impellers need high HP in the high rpm range to produce maximum thrust. HP in watercraft is not at all the same. Electric stinks for water applications because the motor loses power as rpms increase. 100% torque at 0 rpm, 0% torque at peak rpm.
I don't get why Kawasaki guys get so up in arms about the use of "jetski". it's like a Stanley knife, an Allen key or a crescent wrench. Who cares what brand it actually is, that's what the bulk of the population calls it now.
This guy couldn't figure out that because it's electric when it goes in reverse the impeller spins the opposite direction and that's why you can't steer... and yall are going to trust his review
Its by far not the first carbonfiber jetski. Also the power is anything else than impressive. The only thing it sits on top is the price. For 40k you can get some serious power 500hp plus
About 15 years away from battery technology that will make sense for watercraft and boats. Battery prices should be reasonable then too. I bet they will be competitively prices with ice. Cool to see though.
I think it will take way longer then that, battery tech has gone no where fast in the last 10 years, the biggest 18650 is still around 3.5 ah last time I checked...
For 20 minutes, you want to know why these only have 160hp. No? Well I'll inform you anyway. Because the extra space and weight needed for the bigger motor and battery would make this an actual boat. Now I already consider these seadoos a fucking boat but hey they're 300+ horsepower and fast af. The only reason this electric comes in at 700 pounds is they're using an expensive carbon fiber hull. If you carbon fiber a seadoo it's going to gap this electric toy even worse because it will be 200 pounds lighter and still way more horsepower. EV had fatal flaws for marine application and that is excessive weight and excessive drain under high output. All marine applications are high output because the water creates so much drag. A hydro foil would barely make a difference in a ski because when people play on skis it's generally many stop and all out go applications and tight turns one after another. I'd love to see someone try to spin a 360 on a hydro foil ski. People say these ev ski's have an application and that only application is not having a whole lot of fun which is the only point of a jet ski.
@@fiddynutz68 an advanced hydrofoil system with propulsion at the base could do some wild maneuvers. Sounds like a ton of fun to me, depends how much fun you have experimenting with new tech I suppose :)
Its definitely not something i would buy for a regular lake put for those people that live on lakes that dont allow gas engines it would be their only choice
Lol I couldn’t even make it down to the end of the lake before it dies. Gas all the way. I couldn’t imagine saying kids sorry it has to charge like a rc car so dumb tech just ain’t there.
Bragging about reverse …. oops not as good as a sea doo , no range , jumps like a bunny , no cruise control like a sea doo , sea doo smokes it good …. Compartments all looked wet , crazy expensive ….. get some good wireless earbuds and don’t bother everyone on the water
Sports action video cameras (Go Pro et. al.) pick up on all of the vibrations as noise, it is that way for EV motorbikes. As a rider you wouldn't be bothered by it, but if another of that vehicle approaches you might get good at identifying it even if it is not very noticeable. The vibration you as a driver/rider feel you'll recognize when you hear it roll up from a distance, if that makes sense, even if you don't hear it from your position on the vehicle. Typical EV stuff... it's pretty wild going to EV track days and being able to pick out where certain cars are on the track by the tire noise and inverter whine.
I love the product but here in Canada it's 40k after taxes (roughly $40800) and that's without a trailer or any extras. That's pretty insane for a PWC. I was looking into one (I had a deposit on the snowmobile), but I can get two higher performance machines and a trailer for that price. I'll circle back in time when they're closer to the rest of the industry pricing. I love the quietness, and I'm looking forward to an electric quad in the future as well.
@larryc1616 no it wouldn't water isn't the same as land the extra hp you need to run a ski as fast would require way more battery and there just isn't space. The marine industry is really showing how shitty EV actually is.
Great video Brooks. I really like seeing your content with non standard vehicles. Could you test the Model 3 Performance again? There have been a lot of advances in optimizing the battery since you had one. Mine is running 11.1s @ 120 mph now and someone else finally got a Model 3 to do a sub 3.00 0-60 mph without subtracting rollout.
@@DragTimesit really depends more on monitoring battery and motor temperatures more than anything. That and weight reductions. Even old ones can be faster now if the temperatures are optimized.
@@AustinTA-cd9rsthat’s why statistics are always per 1000 or per 100 so the total number dosent matter. You talk about statistics but don’t understand them.
It's irrelevant. They filled for bankruptcy this week. No shock The noise comment shows how little you know about watercraft. . Most of your videos are great this one clearly shows you aren't a watercraft expert.
Interesting - heard about this but first time seeing this in action. Coming from a first time ski owner (VX Cruiser) I'd love to see 2 things improve: 1 - Range. I'm usually putting 35-45 miles on. 30 would get me nervous and would constantly be in the back of my mind. 2 - More storage. Looks like I'd be forcing my dry bag in the compartment and the glove box isn't enough for all my usuals (phone, water, binoculars, sunglasses, etc. Know it's there first generation so super excited to see them. improve in next 3-5 years!
3 - What Marina or restaurant on the water would you recommend to get the electricity charge? How long would that re-charge take? How much $$ ? REC90 is $6-7/gl at waterfront marinas near me and accessible everywhere.
Dude I can't believe how disingenuous this review is. These things are a flaming hot pile of garbage. They are only made for some dumbass rich person that wants to be a climate activist by way over paying for a machine that makes zero sense. And the only way this company is going to survive is through government charity and intervention.
Great to see Electrics on the water!. Drawing first blood, they have a good thing going. Obviously power and speed will be an easy software update. Taking notes from RC electric boats, there's a lot of work that needs to go into the impeller design. hopefully they continue development and can compete with the big boys in the future!
Does it have a brush-less motor and Li-Po batteries? Like a Traxxas whatever? JK. But jokes aside, it should make service much easier if like R/C components, motor, speed control, battery, (2spd transmission would be cool).
Not really true on the software update. A controller can only pull so much current before popping, and a battery can only deload so quickly without losing the ability to hold a charge.
Fantastic! Interesting how the power difference doesn't translate to jet, on land even half the power is not like it has half the power, but on water you see it. Also, didn't beat the seadoo on acceleration either and you would think the extra TQ would.. but i guess jet pumps slip anyway... Another interesting thing is the sound the pump makes lol to me it still sounds like a pwc!
The manhood measuring in some of the comments is a sad thing. Batteries are the bane in the products. Any product with batteries eventually needs new ones. Some faster than others. Batteries are not cheap...regardless of which ones....any of them...any product. My e-bike battery is $500 alone. I'm not interested in electric cars because it's a scam. They are not zero carbon footprint....solar panels suck....charging stations are slow and not adequately supported...and batteries are stupid pricey. This e-ski has limits too. I don't want a few hours....I want days in a row availability to ski and not have to wait for charging.
This thing is amazing!! I need to buy couple of those. I wish the range will be like 40-45 miles to go in longer trips but I’m sure it’s coming within 3 years
3 years is not very long, this does seem like a pretty refined product already. You could get such range but then it would need to be a hydrofoil craft more so than a blunt jetski. Perhaps more van be done making a conventionally powered one more silent? Compare a Superbike to a Rolls.
you dont have to wait if you have money T3MP3ST Maverick GT Range75-150 miles Runtime 3-5 hours Top Speed 70 mph no doubt yamaha and seadoo will come with something usefull latest 2025 the real question will they ever be usefull for jumping waves with the weight (and can the batteries handle it) or else many wont replace them i would imagine this going right through some waves a lighter machine might go over. and going over is more fun then under so far i have not seen these machines tested in ruff conditions, people are allways right next to the beach in calm weather i also know how far a saedoo goes in frost, how far does the orca go
Reverse is basically rudderless do you have to bring your own paddle when backing up to use as a rudder ? that is no Bueno. There are people that refuse to pay less they think it’s some kind of honor when they way over pay for everything. Their will be people that will buy it because spending three or four times more than everyone else makes them feel superior .
You might want to glue a chrome motor mount for a gas engine on the back because you just know your going to get stuck on some far away island without electricity. And we all know how saltwater mixes with electricity. Try not to be the ground. lol. Looks like its a porpoiser(bad hul design).
Sorry its a POS. 30 mile range, are you kidding me!! You are not going anywhere with that. 48 mph top speed, we had skis back in the 90's that would easily outdo that. YUCK!
So 30k for an electric pwc that can only play for 2 hours before your done for the day or 20k for a fishpro scout and have fun all day long😂sounds like those gas motors just stay winning
Lol talking about how quiet it is lol i have no problem talking to my buddy's while our doos are running n here no problem and when drag racin you guys were talking no problem while the doo was running lol my option is its junk.. 90mins and you were have battery lol I put 100 in my seadoo and I can go all day on one tank
30 miles is not much time on the water... Seems to porpoise even on the smooth water. I can fill my 300 up with fuel and ride for a lot longer. No thanks. I will keep my 300...
