Disclaimer: Please be aware that working with hot liquid metals is very dangerous! Do not try this at home if you do not exactly know what you do. I have done a lot of preparation and informed myself before I did my first pour.
If you do so, make sure to wear proper personal protection gear like a full face shield, a respirator, a dusk mask, fire retarding clothing or a leather apron, good protective and heat resistant gloves and leather boots. Make sure to work safe and use proper foundry tools.
Finally enjoy the hobby!

Aluminium will always have a fair bit of shrinkage that can’t be helped . I missed if you said you had used the rigidizer coating already on the ceramic wool🤔have you coated it yet ? If your loving your first aluminium Ingot you wait until you pour your first copper or aluminium bronze 🥳. I make my aluminium Bronze with 90% copper & 10% aluminium by weight . I put both in the crucible at the start as the molten aluminium will lower the melting point of the copper dramatically, then I give it a very gentle stir and pour . It’ll make a golden coloured Ingot 😆. I’m glad your safety 1st that’s good . And happy your preheating your mold👍🏻. Below is a link to where I got my design for some lifter and tongs to cheaply easily make at home as when that crucible gets older I wouldn’t trust the rim when tilting it with your current tongs . Great to see your starting the pouring and make sure your boy stays clear during operation 😁😉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g2ZVw42u9kg.html

Hey Dion thanks for the tips. Im away for work right now so no new video. I have melted copper already. Soooo beautiful video will come soon when I am back! Yeah I am planning on making a lifter/pourer as the top edge of the crucible is already starting to crack after 3 copper melts... I don't trust it either. Cant wait to mix copper with aluminium!

Good to see you melting! I know the feeling of the ingot not coming out of the mold! Been there many many times. At least it didn’t explode on you 😂 that groove is most likely caused from from the aluminum shrinking as it cools . That happens to everyone so don’t worry about it 👍🏻
@Metalstacker
@Metalstacker 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching! Yeah you looked dangerous last week! I had a copper melting last weekend and I putted a copper pipe into the furnace. I think it had some moisture in it as it exploded molten copper 5 feet into the air! Luckily no one was harmed but it gave me a good scare... The package will be shipped this week, little bit later as I was busy. Next video will be in 3 weeks as I am away with work. I have ordered 2 more molds and will make some steel molds soon too!

Just bought a 10kg devil forge I have 150lb of cans and 100 lb of printing plates to melt I know I can melt the metal I'm worried about the video editing I wanna share my experience with all who care!!!!
@Metalstacker
@Metalstacker 4 года назад
Sounds great! I will buy the 10 kg furnace next year for bigger projects. Right now I am reading into the theoretically stuff on how to do proper metal casting. If you gonna buy another devil forge, buy it via 'Bigstackd casting' he is on youtube and can offer some discount on the furnaces. Have fun, be safe and for the editing, there are plenty of free video editing softwares on the internet. You should try a trial of a paid editing program. At that way you can try out different programs and eventually if you want to step it up buy a program you can work with. Good luck and hit me up when a video releases!

@Metalstacker 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching! Yeah gold ingots would be awesome, I would be rich as this mold can make 85OZ gold bars :D I want to mix some metals like copper and aluminium in the future to make like gold bars. I heard 90% copper and 10% aluminium by weight does the job. 7 kilo ingots are huuuuuuge! I'm going to make my own steel molds, so I will make bigger bars too! I only need to make myself a lifter and a pouring tongs. Last weekend I melted 1.5 kilo copper and the crucible was used for the third time, all cracking up, and with my current tongs not safe to lift anymore... Looking forward to see your molds!

just a question before my first melt.............. do you adjust the air flow or the pressure of the gas from the tank to control temp?
@Metalstacker
@Metalstacker 4 года назад
You should use both. The wider the air choke the harder the flame. But mostly you will use the pressure of your propane. My setup is air choke opened around half an inch or 1.5cm. Opening it more than that is useless. My pressure for aluminum is 0.8 mpa, for brass I have a pressure of 1.0 mpa and for copper 1.2 mpa. Just experiment a little bit what you think works best. I did a temperature reading around each 3 or 5 minutes in the melt to see wich set up would give me a certain temperature. Do you have an infrared thermometer? Have fun and let me know how it went 😁👋👋

@@Metalstacker It is slag you moron. Dross by definition is worthless, can not be reused for anything, material that has no application. Waste by the purest definition. SLAG however can be remelted and reused. Slag is a by product that still has practical application. Aluminum creates slag, not dross.
