Join me as I take "Bess" my 1971 Triumph Vitesse out for winter drive along the lanes of East Suffolk...after some battery charging and a bit of richening up the mixture on the SU carburettors.
Thanks for a enjoyable video as you take Bess for a new year's blast around the country roads of Suffolk. Also being winter less leaves on the trees you can see more of the countryside along side the road.
Hi Sean, always a pleasure viewing your drive outs, I've been using the Stag quite a bit recently. How about you set up a meet up of your followers in there classic for a coffee and chat and maybe a drive out on one of your routes !!!. When the weather is a bit better. What do you think? Cheers Bob
Hi Bob, lovely to hear from you. I think your idea is an excellent one. I will see if we can put something together in May or June, cars and fish and chips run perhaps? It would be especially nice to meet you and your Stag and everyone else with or without their cars.
@@seanhumfreySounds a great idea, Would make some interesting content for the channel I am sure, hope you are able to get it together, cant help thinking Dunwich from last years video!
Thank you, Sean, excellent video, as always - thanks! I notice that Bess appears to have quite a generously-sized brake booster. This interests me, as my 1970 Vitesse convertible was not so equipped. The brakes were pretty good but needed a really hard shove to bring out their best. I must say that I have never, before or since, come across non-assisted disc brakes! Would the servo have been a refinement introduced in the 1971 model year? All the best, Colin.
Hi Colin, both my Vitesses have servos, and both were fitted by previous owners. To be honest I don't think they are necessary. My first Vitesse was standard and the brakes were fine. Indeed the main issue was locking up the front wheels, but then again I was 19 and used to drive it with a certain verve! I have driven, more recently a non servo Vitesse 6 and the brakes on that seemed absolutely fine. I think if I was restoring one of these cars, I would spend the money on a dual circuit system rather than on adding a servo. It would be interesting to see what other people think. I will ask the question on the Vitesse International Facebook group and see what they say 😀
Hi Colin, Facebook consensus is that the servos were really unnecessary and simply gave a softer pedal feel. I suspect the previous owners were unused to non servo systems and installed the boosters, mistakenly thinking this would improve the brakes, which they don't!
@@seanhumfrey Thanks for the information, Sean. It's really a case of what one is used to. It's important, though, to remember which car one is driving - to avoid either standing it on its nose or crashing into the vehicle in front!
