Last worked on Navy version of the B-25 in 1955 at NAS/NADC, Johnsville, PA. We lived at NAS Willow Grove, and commuted daily. Willow Grove is a multi--services base and still active as far as I know. All R & D back then.
Thanks so much for watching William, yes a great restore and they are going to sell rides and fly it at airshows so it wont just be sitting in a museum.
Great stuff ! Always one of my fave' aircraft ! Remember what Geoffrey De-Havilland said,ie,'if an Aircraft looks right,it'll fly right'.Nuff said.Look after it boys.
Just saw fifi today! Unfortunately the pbj wasn't there:( caf socal and the Texas squadron swaped planes. But I got to see a p51 flyby and the c45 fly which was cool. Anyway great vid thanks!
Sunday May 15, 2016, our CAF SoCal Wing’s PBJ-1J “MB 11” (BuNo 35857) took to the air and flew for the first time since 1993. Marine Bombing Squadron VMB 611 veteran S/Sgt Verne Horton (waist gunner/radio operator), his family, and I were present to share this historic event. It was a very special day...a day of great joy. Yet the day was bittersweet, as my dad and his crew were lost in VMB 611’s PBJ-1J “MB 11” on Memorial Day, 30 May 1945 in Mindanao, Philippine Islands. Growing up, I could only imagine my father’s plane crashed somewhere in the jungle of Mindanao. Sunday I watched “Mike Baker 11” fly and for a brief moment, I could visualize my dad in the left seat. And to be able to stand next to Verne Horton made it even more special. We are both looking forward to our first flight in MB 11. Thank you for such a great video. David Fish Son of Capt Doit L Fish, USMCR VMB 611 PBJ-1 pilot MIA 30 May 1945
+seahorseblue First off your welcome for the video, I was so happy to be able to witness this historic aircraft fly again & share my video so people can enjoy watching such an historic aircraft. I'm very sorry to here about your father & his crew, but know this he gave his life so we can have our freedom today. I didn't talk to Verne but I saw him that day and was honored just to see him & then I saw him talking on channel 9 news, absolutely incredible that he flew 43 missions, sounds like you and him are going to fly on her when they start selling rides, I as well will take a flight on the PBJ with Marc and his crew. Thank for sharing your story. Take care and enjoy your flight Ed Whisenant
Hi Dave, hope all is well. You might remember l sent you a picture of your dad that l found in my dad's stuff. After my dad passed away l had his uniform, logbook, all kinds of papers and pictures and now have given most of his stuff to my sons. I studied all l could on VMB-611 and traced their movement across the Pacific. Dad was with the original group that island hopped from Hawaii forward to the combat areas. I was born March 17th, in 1945 and dad's log book reflects the flights that they made looking for the plane your dad was in and Col. Sarles' plane on May 30th and several days following. The 611 squadron members were all very proud of their accomplishments during their Marine Corps days. Best Wishes, Jim Oxley.
@@EdWhisenantAviation Beautiful plane, my dad, Carleton Oxley, was one of the original pilots of VMB-611, aka Marine Bomber squadron 611. I'll have to check his log book, he may have flown that one once or twice. They spent most of their combat flights in the Phillipines at the Zamboanga base supporting both Army and Marine ground forces.
@@vckscria4385 That is some really cool history you have on your Dad & very special that you have his log book, these aircraft are loved by people around the world & your Dad was a huge part in the history of the war and these historic bombers. Thank you so much for sharing your Dads history & for watching 😎👍
I don't like what digital recording does to SPINNING PROPS !! I prefer the good old 30 fps PHOTOGRAPHY. Some have YET to even see it in reality. And SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MACHINE !! LORDY !!
Much prettier than the standard issue B-25. Beautiful! #MAGA! BTW, are you related to the former NASA engineer Edgar Whisenant that wrote "88 Reasons The Rapture Will Be In 1988"? He was wrong of course, but the book made him wealthy. I still have my copy.
Yes I think it's much prettier also, I'm not related as far as I know, I've never herd anyone in my family talk about him. Thank you for your comment & for watching :)
There is a variant with oval things on the wing tips. I'm sorry Idk what they are called. If u Google PBJ pics you'll see what I mean. I know there were a few different variants. I watched how the nose was interchangeable. I know they had a 75MM cannon on some of them in the front. Such an amazing plane!
I found out what you mean, it's located on the Co-Pilots side, J and H series mounted radar in the starboard wingtip. The large quantities of B-25H and J series became known as PBJ-1H and PBJ-1J respectively. These aircraft often operated along with earlier PBJ series in Marine squadrons. Information from Wikipedia :) I hope this helps to answer your question. Take care.
