Hello, based on your experience of knives to use in the open air rather a D2 steel or stainless steel as M390? Let me know which one is better in this field according to you, your videos are very beautiful. Hi Michele.
Hi Michele. For the open field like bushcraft etc. i think the better steel is 01 or 1095 (non stainless) Between D2 & M390 I think better is M390 because D2 is dangerous to cracking edge during the chopping and batoning work. For stainless steel I prefer 440C. Is for general cut work with easy re-sharpening.
I'm looking for steel on bauschkraft. I had chosen D2. Now I read your post, it is not suitable for chopping and batonig. The second option I have either 440C (N695 or N690) or ELMAX - I require good flexibility, and long-lasting sharpness. Which steel you will be more appropriate ? Thank you very much
@Therka Marka Not always a trade off. I have ballbearing steel custom knife, that sharpens easily almost like 1095 and holds it's edge longer than Lionsteels M390...
Once we have to hardening stainless steel must be put the blade inside the foil envelope because we must keep out the oxygen from blade surface. So i put one small piece of paper because when paper is burning the flame ''eats'' the oxygen who there is inside the envelope. (bad English...i'm sorry)
