I find it impressive how Airfix have improved the quality of their kits in the last couple of years. All of their new kits are so much fun to build, especially if you like british aircraft. I only wish they did more japanese planes. A new Dinah in 1/48 for example.
Looks like a very good kit. The aircraft to me looks still quite close to the later ones from the Great War. Great choice if you want a series of models showing the development of (British) fighter aircraft.
Hi Jason, thanks for excellent review, this kit looks stunning, no wonder you want to start it straight away, love the plane looks. I share your views on Airfix - I like their approach to cost vs quality of product, I think it's perfectly balanced, their instructions are best on the market, kits are just getting better (this lovely detail on B-24...), they could do what you suggest - release upgraded version with PE and masks and more decals (Eduard does that - they have weekend version and profipack with all additions), but even now it great for the price. Have a great day, Dom
The windscreen isn't a short shot, but 1 of 2 versions of the windscreen. Normal symmetrical design and the second, the most common type had an extended right hand side, I think was because the gun sight most moved from dead centre to slightly righthand side, thus the pilot's head need shielding from the wind buffeting.
My kit was bashed and bent which must have happened before the packaging as that was so good. That’s ok as I will build it but I would love it if they moved to a more ICM type boxing.
Hi Jason, that looks to be a great kit, I am not a bi-plane builder, but would possibly consider getting one, thanks for the review, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Wonder who did the injection moulding for this kit in india, must have changed supplier or done massive quality improvement work. Looks way to detailed, flash free and crisp to be an Airfix kit. Since I will buy it Im happy to see this. (Will build a Swedish J 7)
Good review Jason, nice kit though with all that rigging, it's enough to make coward modellers like me run a mile! 😆 The design, instructions & detail is great, it's just a shame that airfix don't seem to invest as much effort on the QC side.
you dont have to do the rigging it will still look cool. you would think the damaged tool would be a simple fix should not have got to production like that.
Personally i am a Harry Houdini fan and the cockpit area in some of these so called superb kits by Airfix and the like are insanely overdone. You cannot even see them most of the time and that is what puts the price up wildly.
I stopped watching Harry as so many of his videos are just click bate. Airfix have to do what the competition does or it will lose sails, and the offer this at prices lower than most other manufacturers. So I am afraid I don't agree with your comment at all. Thanks for watching though,
