HUGE Thank you to Maxwell 康迈伟 for showing us around the great parks of Shanghai. Checkout his channel for the best interactions with local people on RU-vid: www.youtube.com/@maxwell.carver
Thank you to both of you for coming to enjoy and partake in the undefeated park culture of Shanghai! I can confirm that all of the uncles and aunties still miss you dearly-I still get asked about you two. 加油酒仙夫妇!
When I first visited China, I was absolutely pleasantly surprised as well. It was NOTHING like USA and the West told us back home. Alternatively, when I first visited USA I was also shockingly surprised as well. Again it was NOTHING like USA and the West told us back home. China was modern, futuristic, generally people were fit, they had the most AMAZING Civic Infrastructures and most affordable Civic Services throughout the Country, USA was modern, but only in places where Billionaires lived (LA, NYC, LV) ... and only within the suburbs of the places where Billionaires lived. But for most of the country the Civic Infrastructures needed serious maintenance or replacements/constructions, and the Civic Services were NOT affordable to millions of USA Citizens. I could not believe that the richest Country in the world have 70 Million (out of 340 Million) living in poverty. And the stupid Gun Laws in USA where they allow 40,000 Gun related deaths every year, mainly amongst the poor, so that the Corporates can make billions in profit every years, and it is also a means of culling their poor population, saving paying out government social security financial support. China had a Government that totally focused on the needs of EVERY ONE of their citizens (1.5 Billion people). USA had a Government that heavily focused on the interests of CORPORATIONS regardless they have 70 Million, out of 340 Million, living poverty (and the numbers are growing daily).
Honestly, it's really funny to read this. This actually makes me reflect, it's really difficult to change the way people think depending on where you grew up. Even if you try to write in their native language.
I'd have to agree! Was a great inside view for me as an American. Was great to see how friendly the chinese people are literally opening them with open arms! I just wish the governments around the world would stop causing divide between nations and instead bring us all closer!
Absolutely love this video. There are no two countries are the same. The essence of traveling is to interact with the local and get to know their culture. It is the only way to eliminate the barriers and misunderstandings. You two are open minded, willing to communicate and interactive.
You are the travel couple who are most good at integrating into local life. The trip to Shanghai made you look very relaxed. After the video of you taking the train to Xinjiang, you got another name, the Iron Hip Couple in the Chinese media.
Bro, I really like your video. Your videos observe various countries from the perspective of ordinary people, which is very down-to-earth. I saw you drinking with oldman in Beijing and eating noodles on the streets of Urumqi, which made me feel great! I found out that you are a football fan,If you have the opportunity to travel to Beijing next time, I suggest you watch a Beijing Guoan's game. The Workers' Stadium in Beijing is one of the best football stadiums in Asia, and the fans in Beijing are as passionate as those in the UK! Enjoy your trip and have fun!
Thank you! Perhaps it's because we aren't 'shocked' to be in China. We love it here and want to get straight into speaking the language and spending time with local people ☺
Such a nice way to wake up in the morning at 7am. Absolutely, love when your videos pop up. Makes my day 100% way better, thank you. The man learning Portuguese seems so nice and very friendly. Keep up the hard work. Love you guys 💗💗
A lot of parents have to hide this activity from their kids😂.after you passed them, they went back home and seemed like very occasions to told their child, they met some one from event but not this open market.😂
Omg that’s so funny. As a Chinese I would have never done these things in a park. Too shy for this. But you guys are amazing and I can tell that you are super intelligent. Can’t stop laughing while watching. Love your videos 🎉
3:46 😂😂There was a misunderstanding here. The blogger wanted to ask the old man what his favorite English TV program was. But the old Chinese man mistakenly thought the blogger was from a famous TV station in the UK.😢
😂Apparently the old man became a bit cautious after he thought the blogger was from British TV. Because some TV stations in the UK, such as the BBC, are very mean about China, so the old man suddenly became very wary😅
You guys are having the best time in Shanghai. It's great to have a local friend to show you around and produce different content that sets you apart from other full-time travelers.
I have been in Shanghai 5 years ago. I find the Shanghainese not unfriendly (some people were) but not nice either. From Shanghai I traveled to Taiwan. The Taiwanese were really nice. 🇼🇸
I used to watch Bald and Bankrupt Vlogging his own country, (the UK). Boy it gave me a bad impression especially when they drove up to Scotland and he interviewed a couple of people.
There are a few reasons why western countries the governments don't want their citizens to visit China. 1st to see all the Chinese super infrastructures. 2nd how China is able to keep the public areas so clean, green and organized. 3th why China is so safe even for foreigners. 4th. How Chinese education system is able to educate the people with such huge population to be so disciplined. If those western countries people visit China and see all these, they will realize how useless and incompetent their governments are compared to the Chinese government. With so much taxes they're paying, yet their useless governments are not able to provide them the same infrastructures, cleanliness and safety to the people. That is why their governments and government controlled media keep lying to them about how bad China is. How undeveloped China is and advises the people not to visit China. The governments do not want the people to see the real China and compare.
“High risk,” as in risked of an American wanting to stay in China forever if he/she visited China instead of going back to the dull, boring life in the US!😂😝 This actually happened to an American kid just graduated from high school about 10 years ago! He traveled with his Christian rock band to do a concert tour in China for about a month in several Chinese cities and ended up staying in China for over a year despite pleas from his parents telling him to come back home to the US! He stayed home for about 3 months and went back to China to study Chinese and attend college and ended up staying in China for good after he met a Chinese girl in college! The last time I spoke with his parents was about 8 years ago when they told me he was engaged to a Chinese girl and that they were ecstatic that their son was going to marry that Chinese girl! His father was especially proud of his son’s choice despite only having spoken with her a few times on the phone! They planned to visit their son and daughter-in-law-to-be in China and attend the wedding in China, that was what they told me. Now you know why the US politicians do not want the American people to visit China! Because once you’ve visited China you might love China a lot more than the US and you might pledge your allegiance to China instead of you know what!
A little knowledge about bird raising: bird raising was once a hobby of the Chinese nobleman, so the bird cages they used were also very particular, and an expensive bird cage could cost up to 100,000 or 200,000 RMB.
Come here from Bilibili to support💚. I feel that Jack has a great talent for language. Both Jack and Paige are very friendly and willing to experience the unique local culture. There is an old saying in China:It is such a delight to have friends coming from afar.😀
Your way of traveling means you get to meet a lot of actual locals. Most local people in Shanghai speak foreign languages to some extend (mostly English) due to the city's history, but in most popular tourist spots, the workers are from other provinces and are not as well versed in foreign languages. It is said that in certain parts of Shanghai, especially the downtown areas where foreign embassies are situated, one can live a normal life while only knowing English. Now this is hearsay that my family told me (I was born and raised in Shanghai), but I didn't find a chance to go verify that myself yet (and I would like to someday, just going around pretending I don't speak Mandarin), but for now take this info with a pinch of salt Edit: skimming through the video and saw the food at the end there. Strictly speaking, Shanghai really don't have a "local cuisine" to speak of, it is more of a conglomeration of the cuisine of the surrounding area plus a lot of European influences. You can find the likes of Schnitzels and Borscht and many more European classics to be considered staples in Shanghai cuisine, although heavily modified from their original to fit the Chinese taste. But it also goes the other way as well, the Shanghainese version of the cuisines from surrounding areas have been modified to better suit the taste of Europeans who lived in the area in the past, which is why the ribs you tried tasted so much like the ones you get in England.
As you can see all these Chinese parks and streets are clean and tidy which contrasting to the UK ones filled with fast food wrappers and broken bottles. Chinese local government spend money to improve living standards to give local residents a better living environment whilst the UK local councils spend money on vanity projects and endless unnecessary road works to make people miserable. Chinese parks full of happy and friendly people enjoying their lives, the UK parks have homeless, alcoholics, druggies and yobs. But according to the west media that China is too dangerous to visit 😂 Thanks for the video to show the real China!
I went to China in 2007 to work for an a joint venture between an American theatrical company and a Chinese one. It was an American broadway musical and it was one of the first to tour China. The first city was Shanghai, and I went exploring by myself that first night. Didn't know the language or anything. The people were very nice, but back then China didn't see many people from the west walking their streets, so I stood out and was a bit of a novelty. Not many people spoke English at the time, except for young college age people. I visited 7 cities and it was the most exciting, because it was nothing like the U.S. Although when I was in Shanghai it was so hot that I would have to change my shirt several times a day. I will say Shanghai now seems a bit more touristy than I remember it being back then. I never saw a Chinese man wearing a New York Yankees cap when I was there, believe me, I would have been very excited being from New York.
46:00 The things about Shanghai cuisine is that you must review Shanghai's history first. Shanghai was a county seat with around 200,000 population before 1840. After First Opium War Shanghai was opened as a trade port and ceded a concession to Britain for British merchants. You can still found some British style old build in The Bund. (For example, the Custom House was build by Britain and it used to play Westminster Quarters on every quarter). Since then it grew rapidly and became a primary commercial and financial hub of Far East in the 1930s. When the PRC was establish in 1949, the population of Shanghai is around 5 million. So the majority of Shanghainese are immigrants from neighbouring provinces Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and the so called Shanghai cuisine, in a narrow sense, it is local cuisine which originated in Shanghai for those local inhabitant who lived in Shanghai before 1840. In a broader sense, it's a mixture of Jiangsu cuisine and Zhejiang cuisine.
Just stumbled upon this. What a delightful vlog. So full of good humour and positive vibes. Jack, Paige and Maxwell are the sort of people every country should roll out their red carpet for. Thumbs up!!
I won't like to make a collection on the title. Should be the "Friendliest country in Asia" not "Friendliest city in Asia" Why did I said this. Because anywhere, any city you go to in China, we Chinese are all friendly to foreigners. Because we Chinese treat foreigners visiting us as our guests.
