M. @@6thSLWhat are you even talking about?... Metro Manila has many CBDs... BGC may be the newest but it's not the only one. That whole area is also covered in lots of Luxury subdivisions/gated communities.
@@dayangmarikit6860 you missed his point. He missed the Philippines that he knows as popularly a nice beach country (and its hospitable country people). He doesn't see it at BGC. There's nothing wrong about that, is there?
Philippines is like halo-halo you can experience the modern to rural life, city to island life or crowded city or to be alone in un spoiled island beach . I enjoyed your Blog and say Hello for me to Uncle Sam
Jonathan, your reaction and disbelief that there is actually a Buffalo Wild Wings in the Philippines is genuine. Welcome to Metro Manila! Have a safe flight back to AL with your family.
This mfer thinks the Philippines is some backwards rural area where there is no progression and foreign influence 😂, can't blame him since he's live his experience in rural Visayan area. I don't know why he's surprised that the Philippines have Denny's and Buffalo wild Wings.
Stayed a in BGC for a week with my English boyfriend. We were ok to pay a bit more for the condo for a more relax stay. Sadly he's really disappointed with BGC. Expensive food and restaurants and don't taste that great. And the sewers on the streets smells so bad. We enjoyed the most in Pasay and Makati.

@@coffeeexo7 glad to hear the CONS also; however, there are Expensive accommodations in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland as well AND the undesirable/ghetto areas as well so it's all relative. You've experienced BGC now so get out of Manila next time and EXPLORE the Provinces and 7,600 Islands of the Philippines! Goodluck and God Bless you journeys!
Hi Jonathan! You're right when you implied that the real Philippines is not found in well-developed cities like the BGC area...but in areas outside the big cities. Same in other counties...when I travel, I try to get out of the city and roam around the areas outside the city....I think that's a more appropriate way of immersing yourself in the culture of another country.
I think this statement is a bit dumb. In any country you won’t find the actual “culture” in the business districts like BGC. Poverty and culture is found in more rural areas. It’s no different in America. Filipinos have toxic mentality that America is rich and poverty doesn’t exist. You can find just as poor side of town the good side of town.
Yeah that great 😊 not to late ⏰ it’s better late than never ,, visiting BGC.. yeah of course Philippines 🇵🇭 must have its dynamics ..from the beautiful 🤩 island paradise to jump and diverse to a beautiful modern skyscraper 🏙 😊
Jonathan, most American food, they have them in the Philippines. After all, you are in BGC. Modern and rich place in the Philippines. Glad, the Buffalo wings passed your expectation.
That's an amazing face there Jonathan, it totally says how pleasantly surprised you are with the presence of Wild Buffalo Wings here! Welcome to our literally WARM country of the Philippines! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 Salamat kaayo!! Amping!
Hi Jonathan! Dan and Myra Frye here from Albuquerque ,NM we started watching your videos in the Philippines about 2 weeks ago. We have been enjoying all of it, please don’t get tired posting them. You are always so positive and keep it that way. I’m a Filipino and Dan is Caucasian . He can’t wait to come and visit places that you’ve shown in the videos. Please always take care and God Bless You!!!
It’s so entertaining to watch you surprised what Metro Manila is. I’m happy for you discovering the other side of the Philippines since you’ve been mostly in southern and central regions. Good experience as you’ve seen both but the provinces is more of nature and relaxed life.
That's expensive dinner at BGC considering it's in the Philippines! BCG is geared for patrons with foreign currency. So when I go to the Philippines, I'll avoid BCG but opt for House of Lechon in Cebu. Thanks for your video on these two places as well as your other informative videos. Also thanks for being genial; your repartee with the local folks is enjoyable.
Metro Manila is so diverse. It consists of 16 highly urbanized cities: the City of Manila, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela, and one municipality: Pateros. BGC is in Taguig.
I just dont get it like when someone says this isn't just because you've seen its modernity and with so much prosperity some will say this is not the Philippines... Like for real this is the Philippines common. This is the Philippines in all of its variety. Perhaps you wanted to see beaches, farmlands and simple people in the provinces but whether you are in the big cities or any remote places man you are still in the Philippines.
Not like the Philippines because outside BGC, the roads are jampacked with tricycles, cars, trucks, etc. The sidewalks in all the provinces are so uneven, ugly sidewalks, not beautifully paved. BGC is different from all the other places of Manila where ghettos/ slums are common sites.
@@Sanee-n1l not true.. Metro Manila have several CBDs not only BGC.. and aside from CBDs there are so many developed areas.. perhaps you just hate the Philippines because you are not honest enough
@@Sanee-n1l what do you mean "outside BGC, the roads are jampacked with tricycles, cars, trucks, etc. The sidewalks in all the provinces are so uneven, ugly sidewalks, not beautifully paved" ??? Have you been to the Philippines? I travel daily inside and outside Metro Manila and only on rush hour or certain times and in SOME places do you see roads jampacked with tricycles, cars and trucks. Have you even been to any province? Majority of main roads are very good. And there is no such thing as ghettos/slums being common. Only in certain places in Manila are they located but not by all means common all over the Philippines.
That's one of, if not the main reason why Metro Manila is the most densely populated city in the world. It's because people from the provinces, even as far away as Mindanao, flock here for "greener pastures". Though not every area in M.Manila is packed. There are areas too, particularly the rich areas like Dasmariñas that aren't too populated. Merry Christmas btw :)
You got so used to saying "ayo-ayo" even if you are in BGC hahaha (kept speaking Bisaya) 😂❤😅 There's my office building, right there... ---> lol I agree, the real Filipino experience is not in BGC..it's in the provinces. Authentic pure Filipino experience.
I noticed your grammar, tone and how fast you talk changes depending on who you're talking to and their literacy in English. It's really nice to see. I've seen many vlogs where visitors speak so fast even though the locals clearly can't understand.
I lived in non-English speaking countries for roughly 8 years teaching English as a second language, so I think that I'm always inadvertently gauging English levels and adjusting my speaking accordingly.
Hi. We really enjoy your style of vlogging. We spent time in BGC last October and we know exactly what you said, "this is not the Philippines I know." It's a bubble made by money. IF you have the money you can live a lifestyle of luxury and find everything you want or are use too. Expensive, even by US standards. We toured a "presale" for a condo. 1 million USD. Enjoy Christmas in Alabama.
Yup, all that contrived copycat luxury gets old after a few days of living there. It attracts those who get off flexin' to strangers or to escape from the world outside the 'bubble'.
I do agree that BGC is very different from other areas of the Philippines, but i don't think that makes it any less Filipino or "real". The Philippines changes depending on where you go. The islands & beaches you've been to are obviously different from the back streets of the poorer parts of the city, and those are different from the mountains and rice terraces of the north and the thick jungles of the south. Even culture-wise, things change. Different parts of the Philippines have some similarities, but the cultures are more different than you think. Even the way that people are friendly is different. And of course theres also the many different languages around the country. I think all of that is "real" and Filipino, even though they can get so different that its like you're in a different country. The Philippines is diverse; it's way WAY more than just islands and beaches like the stereotypes suggests. Of course there's a lot of islands and beaches, and the locals are friendly and all that, but that's not all there is to it. That's only a small part of everything that the Philippines is.
I miss that area. I used to walk every day in that area as I went to work. I saw BGC from a barren land with no buildings to now. I am now retired and have relocated to the province but this video made me reminisce about some good old days.
This is so true. Fabcy as it is. The true Philippine spirit is the province. I'm happy you get to experience more of the province than the bigger cities. Honestly, if you want to experience any country's rich culture, don't settle in the bigger cities. Go local.
NOPE. . . . Philippines is literally a HALO HALO, compose of URBAN and RURAL life. Your analogy is like saying New York is the real America, that if someone wants to feel the real America they should go to rural America.
@@YYC403NOYP real American *spirit? Cause you missed that word...with it..eh..what else would u say..don't say DC..def not Cali...I'm from the south..it ALL sucks.. but if you quote them correctly..New Yorks a great example of the American experience...js...

@@remybadier9120 Jonathan is an American vlogger from Alabama USA and the suggestion to visit the Largest American Soldiers Cemetery near BGC, Manila is SIMPLY a recommendation and that is IF he's interested in Fil-Am History during World War II. Am quite certain that somewhere in Jonathan's Family Tree, he has an ancestor/relative that fought in World War II, if not during the Pacific War Campaign. I LOVE World History and I might just visit the American Soldiers Cemetery near BGC on my next visit to our Motherland.
Have you been living under a rock in the Philippines? Lol. Was there a couple months ago and I was blown away at how many American restaurant chains they have - Shake Shack, Denny's, Texas Roadhouse, etc. They even have an Olive Garden.
The Philippines still has a lot of American Influence since the country was once a territory of the U. S. and was, back in the day, until given independence by Pres. Roosevelt in 1946, called The Philippine Islands, U.S.A. For Several weeks now, Thousands of U.S. military troops, with tanks, helicopters, F22 planes, etc., have arrived in the Philippines to use the 9 military bases all around the country.
@@KuyaG-x4p I'm all in for the Philippines, do you think there will be a problem with so many American fast food? you know, the unhealthy aspect, thats one American import, they can do without
Man I'll miss ranch when I visit the Philippines. Really surprised how nice everything is there at the malls and downtown. Huge difference in customer service and work ethic and cleanliness compared to the US.
I've lived in the Philippines for almost 2 years. After one year here, I finally found a large bottle of ranch at a Robinson's grocery store at Nepo Mall in Dagupan. I bought 2 bottles!
You should visit the other mall SM Aura or Venice grand canal at BGC. And the Food Bazaar at night.🤩👍🇵🇭 In the Philippines if you like Luxurious life you should visit Bgc/Makati/Q.C./Alabang/ etc.. But if you like a rural native province life just visit the provinces of the Philippines.😍👌🇵🇭
A Manila trip at this time of your could only have been because you're likely to fly out of the country which has been usual for vloggers and indeed you were =D A most deserved break for sure, if there ever is one, @travelescapesOFFICIAL Jonathan. True, you did not have to feature this particular area of Metro Manila as others have, but it's still great to see your impressions of it especially after having travelled to some of the most interesting areas, quite literally "around the Philippines" not all Filipinos have been to, albeit in the VIsayas area (make that: ESPECIALLY in the Visayas islands). Anyhow, yes indeed, the "dream" most FIlipinos have is not always abroad but to work in the NCR-end up either in the rest of the big city or upscale places like the BGC, hence the many Visayas/Mindanao Pinoys you met and wiill meet. The payscale is incomparable to working overseas, of course, but Luzom is always closer to "home" than abroad ü Happy Holiday to you and yours, Jonathan! Thank you as always for your stay and sharing a year's worth of your adventures. Peace, stay safe =)
Good idea visiting BGC at this time as Christmas fast approaching, being alone it’s more fun with events. Philippines has all the ingredients mix into one, modern metro Manila and some smaller city islands in Visayas and Mindanao, best culinary to ordinary food, then beaches from the entire island, forest and mountains in furthest area where can be reach out, there’s the lowly areas, lots of trimmings for a perfect flavorful halo-halo. Enjoy your holiday and have a Happy Holiday Season.
IMHO, saying that it’s not the Philippines is wrong. That’s one of the many faces of the Philippines. Which I think is awesome. What you just witnessed was a testament of the current economic landscape of a developing county such as the Philippines. Enjoy!
The full title is written in the title “this is not the Philippines I know” . But that title is too long to put in the thumbnail. My mistake in the video is not including the word “traditional”. I meant to say that this is not the “traditional Filipino culture that I have come to know during my time here” since I didn’t see the street bbq, karaoke, etc. i agree, I wasn’t very clear there.. thank you for watching!
Hi, I'm watching your vlog and you just mentioned you were about to have a long flight going to Alabama. I live in Alabama for 11yrs now. It's so fun to see you enjoying your Buffalo Wild Wings. We have the same feeling when I'm enjoying my Jollibee here in the US. Have fun in the Philippines! I am residing in Huntsville Alabama with my family.
By this time you've probably gone but next time ask the staff where the "butas" is, it means hole. It leads you to the barangay, not sure I think it's Guadalupe Nuevo or Pembo, the locals will know, I just saw it from other vloggers. This is where you can find street food and not at all fancy,
New subscriber from Vegas, I envy you being there in my motherland, I hope to be there in Feb or Mar, looks beautiful where you at, thank you for featuring that part of the Philippines, til next time take care, Happy Holidays to you and yours, wish for you peace love prosperity esp good health , more power to your channel🤔🧐🎄🎊🎉🔥✌️🙏
Philippines is up to date with fashion, trends and cuisine. A lot of foreigners cannot believe that the country is modern specially if you’re talking about BGC which is very cosmopolitan. You should go back and spend more time in Manila !
Well done video but I didn't come to the Philippines to see a place like BGC either. My opinion of it in a few visits, is that it is upscale and clean for the most part but I prefer to be in the areas of Jeepneys and Tricycles.
FYI Philippines is not just having stunning natural beauty, wonder of nature, amazing beaches, spectacular mountains etc..but Philippines also have beautiful modern cities such as Makati City, BGC, Pasig City, Mandaluyong City, Pasay City, Paranaque city etc.. Philippines has it all..
Greetings from South Florida, USA! Love your Travel Vlogs about the Philippines but for Local/Pinoy eats, Max's Fried Chicken, Jollibee, Chow King, Red Ribbon, Mary Grace AND Wildflour Cafe are your best bets for Pilipino fastfood, cafes and restaurants when in Manila or any other big cities like General Santos City, Davao City, Cagayan De Oro, Ilo-Ilo, Cebu, San Fernando and Angeles City, Pampanga, Bagiuo and Manila. It's awesome to see Americans and Foreigners explore our Motherland, the 7,600 Islands of the Philippines where local foods, vegetables and esp tropical fruits are in abundance and cheap. Keep up with your Philippines travel vlogs and Kudos to you Jonathan for a job well done! SAFE travels always and God Bless all of your journeys.
I would say, this is still a representation of the Philippines. That's the story of the country - vast gap in the standard of living between the rich and the poor. So you will find really cosmopolitan cities in Metro Manila that offers most resto chains in the US, and then there is the other side, which is the provincial life.
Yes true, but I was referring to how I didn’t see the traditional Filipino culture there as I’ve seen in other areas. This area was more of a mixture of other cultures
Great video. For me.......your experience in the province is the life. The city holds nothing for my taste. And I know you are going to think I am completely off my rocker....but Buffalo Wild Wings is just processed poison to me.
😂 as I was just responding to someone else... I'd meet my friends there every Tuesday for 25 cent wing night in high school... It's a nostalgic place for me... honestly, it seems 90% of the food in the US is processed poison unfortunately.. and I agree with the province life experiences! Thank you for watching!
I just arrived back to the states days before Christmas after spending a month in Boracay, my last 2 days were amazing staying in BGC area for my second time within 6 months and I could not have been any happier and more comfortable there. Yes it’s more expensive to live in the Makati City area but I just may take a chance and spend a month there. How is life living in Bohol??
I was laughing seeing your excitement about Buffalo Wild Wings, because I felt the same way about Texas Roadhouse in the Philippines. Love those ribs and bread rolls at Texas Roadhouse!
I have been in Ermita, Manila for 4 months now! Ermita is the real Manila! BGC is , to me , a sanitized nice area, but not truly Manila . Stay in Ermita if you want to really know Manila!
Do you have any plans to visit the mountains in the north of the Philippines? Theres cool rice terraces and unique flora there, and its also one of the few areas in the Philippines that survived spanish colonization, so the culture is also much closer to the original pre colonial culture if you're curious about that. And of course theres a lot of cool mountain views. Also this time of year is a nice time to get away from the heat by going on a trip there. Baguio city often goes to around 10 degrees during this time of year. Baguio is also just a cool city, with it being built into the mountains, and you can see the houses rolling with the curves of the mountainranges.
Hi Jonathan, maybe you can go to the Baguio, La Union all the way to Subic bay, Bataan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Nueva Ecija, and all- around Luzon. Stay safe and God bless.
Good to know you are interested. I for got to also include Batanes to my suggestion. Also, visit the biggest American cemetery in the world and it is in BGC. Have a safe trip home.
Just subscribed. Glad you like the Philippines. Nice hearing you speak bisaya too. The last time ive ever been to manila was when i was 17 and now im 47 lol. Bless your heart. Glad you love being in the Philippines.
Ok, i tried Buffalo wild wings in the US and to tell you frankly i’m happy with the Cebu style unlimited wings for 230pesos about 5bucks. IMO( in my opinion)
I'm sure it has to do with what you grow up with... in high school my friends and I would meet at buffalo Wild wings every Tuesday for 25 cent wing night... It's nostalgic for me!
Some elevator are lock on some floors. They do that so they can make some elavator exclusive to some floors. Example elavator1 only serves 1-10 and elavator2 only serves elevator 11-20. It should be posted on the ground floor. They do that usually to tall office buildings.
I've gone to BGC a few times, it's cool. I just don't like it because it doesn't really feel like the Philippines. I also like avoiding other foreigners personally.
BGC are special businesses, and awesome bars, disco tech are all so fine.views, however not only BGC.we have moa, filenvest alabang, Ayala center, makati, circuit center, green hills, ortigas center, etc
Better say "INGAT" when you are in tagalog speaking area of the Philippines. Ingat means "ayo ayo" in bisaya or "take care" and "talk to you later". Merry Christmas Jonathan 🎄⛄
Yes. YOUrre in BGC.. Its more like New York but cleaner and really outsanding. I live in New York and thats my place in the Philippines and also Makati citu
I lived in Central Asia for almost 7 years, in Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 the city is not as big as in this video, yes, it look similar, but at the same time it’s not, this video in the Philippines 🇵🇭 in the city looks very clean , modern and organized!, yes in the villages it’s much cheaper to live and spend money, but it still is not bad in the city, I love the city lifestyle, I would love to live there and visit the islands and villages, and return back to the big city over there lol! I have Philippine friends in the states, I will ask them about what’s going on in the Philippines, nice video, thanks!
Wow! This is on my bucket list, but I have to renew my US passport that's expired. What a beautiful country, & thank you for sharing this awesome video. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤️& there is a Buffalo wild wings in the Phils. Now I have to fly there right now. Lol😮.
Smart. Spend the night or more in Manila before going back to the USA. We’re getting a condo in Pasay MoA area because it’s so convenient when traveling
For not being in the Philippines for more than 30 years, I'm amazed of how it transformed into a develop community. Back then, you can actually count the number of cars in the street cause it was mostly jeepneys and busses were in the streets. 😧😧😧
