Hello there! I am Annie, a homeschooling mama with five kids. We’re entering our 10th year of homeschooling this year, and I couldn’t be more excited by the direction our school is heading into. My heart’s desire is to raise life-long learners, and I feel that reading and interacting with quality literature and living books is vital to this goal. I’ve chosen Heart of Dakota to be our main curriculum and even though I’m a little nervous about juggling FIVE students this year, I also cannot wait to curl up with my kids and read. Thanks for watching;I hope I’ve inspired you to embrace your own homeschool- and maybe introduced you to a few books you’ve never heard of.

Love that you are sharing this. Reviews of HOD are hard to find.

What are you using for teaching phonics? And math?

Are you still enjoying this? Do you plan to continue next year? Thanks in advance!

We never got a chance to use it this year (full explanation in my Homeschool 2022-2023 playlist) so I can’t talk much about it. And now with the season of life we are in I don’t see us using it next year.

Thanks for making this. We are doing HOD for the first time as well. We'll bebing a soft start in July and then ramp up in August. I feel like it's going to stretch my boys (11, 10) in independence in a good way

I think it is stretching my oldest ones, definitely. But in a good way so far. You’re going to be glad you chose to soft start- I can’t imagine trying to do everything right away 🤪

Thank you for this video review! I'm considering HoD for next school year. I'm curious how you schedule your day. Do you give your kids a time frame to do school and whatever is completed during that time is done and the rest of the work on the two-page spread waits until their next school time? Or do you require them to get a certain number of subjects done in a given day? Thanks!! I'm considering putting two kids in the same guide and trying to think through how we would use the guide and not get overwhelmed thinking we must finish a day's worth of work as laid out in the guide into an actual school day (plus having younger siblings underfoot that interrupt often!).

We are in a summer season of school so we’re only doing about an hour per day which is about a third of a normal day’s lessons for the older kids. Once we hit September we’ll be doing the full day’s worth. I have a few videos on how I’m lesson planning right now that explain in detail how I’m approaching scheduling and how it’s going. I’m honestly learning as I go and each week I adjust things a little to improve the flow for us. I highly suggest watching those lesson planning videos because I explain my schedule so much better there than I could in a message ☺️

Great video! Is Little Hearts for his Glory geared towards a certain grade? Would it be appropriate for 2nd grade? It looks amazing 🤩

The website has some really good help on the age groupings so I’d check there for more info to decide. I know that the volume after Beyond Little Hearts is a meant for 4th grade so that in 5th kids will be prepared for Creation to Christ. But their levels are loose enough to go either way based on your child’s ability.

Thank you so much for giving us a first impression! I do want to ask is this curriculum self-contained or does it give you options to find books and other materials to get a lesson completed?

All subject have a stack of required books to read. The lessons describe which pages to read each day and what assignments to follow based on the reading. Math, L.A., and literature have suggested curriculum they recommend, but you fill in whichever program you like. We follow our own math, and only part of their language arts.

Just curious, are you still enjoying HOD? I’m interested in it! Thank you so very much for your videos! My kids will be 2nd, 5th, and 6th next year. They are all pretty “on level” for their grades with my youngest being more advanced. What level do you think would be good if I wanted to use one for all, if you don’t mind my asking your advice? Thanks again and may God bless you.

We had to stop using HOD due to personal circumstances outside of school. I found it more teacher intensive than I thought it would be, but that could be because my kids were getting used to the curriculum so they had a lot of questions??? Or maybe they were in too high of a level? We never had a chance to really settle into the curriculum before I had to overhaul my entire school this year. Again, for circumstances outside the school room. I have no idea how I would combine a large age range into one level because the assignments are very specific to a smaller age range. There would be a lot of adapting and work on the part of the teacher, I think, to try to use one level for a larger age range. I’ve heard that their customer help is very good. Maybe ask them about combining kids. Or join some of the Facebook groups and see if anyone has done it before and how they did it? I wish I could be of more help 😫
