I haven't looked at any other videos of the player. I've been waiting for you to get yours. I'm sorry, but Kemper should have made sure you had one on day one. Seriously. You mentioned that you aren't a giant channel, but, I'm sure many others will agree, you are THE go-to channel for Kemper. Seriously. Thank you for your expertise, and your awesome profiles!
The L/R Monitor outs are balanced TRS...sending the same signal as the XLR. So you have a balanced signal in stereo to send to FOH, just use a 1/4" TRS to XLR cable.
I have a huge pedalboard and have been using a power head to run my mono section out to then use stereo pedals in the loop and send to a computer. I only use the amp profile section of the actual kemper, all effects are from my board. It's always seemed so over the top but I love the kemper sound. This seems like it could really simplify things.
Based on the few buildup videos pre-arrival, it's hard not to hear a little bit of disappointment in your voices at the limitations in the unit at present.
Being a long time Kemper user and touring with both the toaster and stage i jumped on this straight away ,I have just received mine today and first thing i noticed was yes the unit sounds great and with a little tweaking you can transfer your performances over like tone junkie says... but (and im sure im not alone here) for the red green colour blind or colour blind users amongst us, those bank colours are next to useless , bank 5 and 6 especially for me both look identical. Ive yet to find a work around as yet
The software seems to stay in line with the pedals theme - give you something but make it a hassle. Here’s 50 banks, but no display to navigate. Here’s Xlr out, but it’s mono. Here’s performance mode, but it only uses rigs. The pedal sounds great, but functionality really isn’t well thought out.
I got mine a few days ago and the first thing I noticed was this. The amp sounds are so good, I played for an hour, before I even thought about tweaking anything. :)
The Midi M Vave Chocolate connects to the USB midi port. Four additional Switches and costs $33.00...plus you still have the Pedal input to use an Expression pedal.
The Kemper stage has covered all my bases and I really don't bother using pedals with it. But I am rebuilding a separate pedal board for a specific reason. Stuff like the Kemper Player, ToneX, the UA amp pedals, etc., and more really make it convenient to have a more convenient pedal board solution for those who want to incorporate real pedals with modelers. Great time to be a player - go old school, go digital, or go hybrid.
I have and love the Stage! I also have a conventional pedalboard with the Tonex providing amp tones. It’s great! I wonder about the Kemper Player and trying it in my pedalboard because I love the Stage so much, but I am not convinced I really need to.
Thank you you answered a lot of my questions I got my Player and was having trouble figuring out how to load my performances I have the stage and I also have the toaster. It’s much different thru Rig Manager can the expression pedal control the mix of your delays? Great video
I would have loved the smaller footprint, but it's not for me. I'll stay happy with the K-stage, wich isn't a bad thing since I don't want a pedal-board. Too many compromise have to be made: 1) The player can only take one expression pedal. 2) No screen to navigate easily (color dots are not helpful with uncertain light and sight-conditions on stage especially when being a little nervous. ) 3) I like to use a performance per song, wich also works as a setlist. And you're more flexible to choose different amps for playing in a cover band. 4) You need to rebuild all rigs and cant take advantage of the whole kemper abilities if you want to use both units having consistent sound. 5) The output section is very limited just like the whole unit. 6) No morphing! And so on.... It's a good unit if you just want a 4-5 channel amp with few effects. Maybe have the choice to have a different amp from time to time... Using it with a midi-controller and other pedals makes no sense to me. Then you're better off with the kemper stage and have it all in a box.
If the Player was the only Kemper model it would have more than enough FX to get by. Keeping in mind knowing Kemper there will be continuous updates both free and paid for. All it needs is the addition of the Kemper A/B switch, and hopefully a future update can give the option of using the Headphone out as an Expression pedal out.
In terms of outputs, can we send the XLR output to the desk with the cab/amp sim on, and at the same time we can send a seperate feed via the monitor output to a "normal" amplified guitar cab on stage with the cab sim turned off? Is that right? If so that's cool because we can still have the old school feeling of having a "reel" amp on stage.
I have a Tonex and UAD Del-Derb and a few drive pedals. I'd love to consolidat to a single unit, and this Player looks compelling for that. I've really enjoyed the ToneJunkie Tonex profiles!
I just can't get by the lack of an effects loop. I could possibly see this if the unit had more switches and was larger to cycle through effects. The lack of standard midi is an issue that requires components. NO SCREEN??? (Do they know it takes 2 hands to play guitar?) Single XLR? (why when you could have put an EFFECTS LOOP in the same place?) No Profiling? (from the company known for it?) To me, it seems very rushed to get an old product in a smaller box. The price doesn't reflect something that HAS NO SCREEN. Did ya leave your cellphone in the studio when packing up the gear for a gig?...TS.
I totally agree with your arguments, but from Kempers point of view, it would make no sense to implement all the features you mentioned. Why? Well then they would kill their own flagship units like the rack, toaster or stage. So they made a mini version, stripped down and to be honest, for a lot of people this unit is way more than they will ever need. Personally I love the unit, cause I'm using it 100% at home in my studio, no profiling required, no 2nd XLR, when recording I have time to choose my presets, etc.
Sounds as a Kemper should \-/ I like your approach and explanation how to work merge profiles ....More info on how would you use this live as a ALL in ONE and assign 3 switches to be most usable flexible / tone wise / gain stage / effect blend / expression pedal use (since no morph avalible yet) :) Cheers,
@@vedder10 That too. If you have a set in stone set list, and can just advance through rigs and banks sequentially. But, it would never work for me. Small gigs at Restaurants and Bars, where requests are regular (from a request list) and can be in any order.
Solid review and sounds great, as we've come to expect from Kemper and Tone Junkie. My $0.02...Kemper really missed the mark in a few key areas. This is meant to be a pedalboard friendly unit, right? But it requires > 2A to power it, which is asking a lot from many pedal power bricks. Also, it has no effects loop, coupled with the fact that you can only use 2 effects post-amp (Delay module and Reverb module), which means that many P&W players will use need additional pedals after the Kemper Player, requiring additional gear to get their signal to FOH (a DI box, for example). I much prefer Kemper amp profiling to Helix amp modeling, but Line 6 thought through the use case of the HX Stomp much better than Kemper did for the Player. Yes, Kemper could update software issues, such as allowing the Stack to be moved to the front and the 4 FX blocks behind it, but the lack of an Effects Loop is not gonna change, and that's too bad.
The FX loop never really. made sense in the Kemper anyways because ithe loop wasn't placed between preamp and poweramp. it was always before or after the amp itself. So the only downside would be the power for most pedalboard users. I personally want to buy two to use in stereo and want to sell my profiler.
I’ve never been on a stage without a di box ready and waiting for me… or at least a snake or mixer within 5-10 feet, obviating the need for an xlr out.
So question....I had a stage. Built almost 100 performances based on each amp model ie 5 amp settings/cabs ECT per performance. Sooo I backed everything up ECT. But if I plug the player in...will my performances be somewhere to do this export thang or am I f'ed?
I was thinking about replacing my H90 with this. Not sure now. Surprised you can only use two effects. I'm using a morgan pr12 piggy back. How are the effects going to compare with the h90 and how effective are the profiles going to be played through a amp???
Mine’s on order, l have a toaster but not for much longer. The player is perfect for me. No fx loop, no problem, two pre + delay + verb is all l need. No screen, all the better, 4 or 5 banks covers most of my favourites. For years l’ve been looking for something like this, tried iridium, boss gt core, & fm3, finally the unbeatable kemper profiles in a nearly pocket sized unit. Into powersd kab & I’ll have the most compact rig imaginable.
It sounds good, it's still a Kemper, but, times have changed and there's the Amperium Live for very similar money that I feel has more features while still sounding great.
I absolutely love my Kemper Stage, it’s made tube amps redundant for me after 40 years of playing them. I’ve just ordered a Tonex to see how I get on with that… but I do feel there is a KemPlayer in my future….
i was looking to see if this could be used as just a multifx unit, like the hx stomp. still not sure if that's possible here, not familiar with the kemper setup and no idea what performance, rig, etc. mean in this context. i have a pedalboard with a clean head and cab but use the hx stomp for delays, chorous, some dirt, etc.
I think Kemper missed the mark with this one. Perhaps if they came out with this a few years earlier, and was cheaper, but for late 2023 I think UAFX has them beat. It looks overly complicated and non-user friendly especially for a first time non-Kemper user. Sounds are great though, and I think the market here is for current Kemper users that want a pedal board version of their favorite Kemper sounds. I just want great Marshall sound and a few different cabinets IRs, so the UAD Lion is what I'm probably gonna buy.
The way I feel about this is as follows “See but don’t touch, taste but don’t swallow”. If I have to make compromises and workarounds with a product such as the Kemper player, it is deliberately not designed to be use as such. It would be much better to have 2 line outs instead of a mono xlr, that would make 2 monitor out and 2 main outs, it would be more versatile along with movable amp section. That way a DI would make more sense and not an “either or” situation which degrades the whole experience of using this product
what’s the point of it can’t take your perfectly honed performances with all the fx onto it? it can’t be that difficult, the tech can’t be that different.
My goal, as soon as I found out about the Profiler Player, was to mainly just use it for the amp profiles. I am going to experiment with a traditional pedal board setup and using it in a loop of my Helix and my Tonemaster Pro. :)
@@quintinpace2627 Funny thing is I have a Kemper Stage, ToneX, Ritchie Kotzen Fly Rig, and Fender Tone Master Pro. I use the ToneX the most because of the combination of compact size, availability of amps on the free market, and great sound. Love the Tech 21 Fly Rig but at $359 it justifies paying a little more and just getting a ToneX. I haven't had the heart to sell any of the other units except I did sell the original Headrush Pedalboard and subsequently the Headrush Prime.
May I ask how (or for what purpose) you'd use the Helix and Tonemaster together, or even those 2 + this player? Im looking to buy a top-o-the-line modeler as a 1-for-all solution for home recording AND gigging. I haven't heard of people who use multiple of these together. Since you own multiple and apparently would (try to?) use them simulaniously, Im curious what you like, prefer or dislike about the TMP/KP/Helix compared to eachother. Like would u like to use kemper's amps, tmp drive and helix reverb..? Also I didnt know if it was even possible to chain these big modelers, sounds fun to try if you have them. I think the profile player limits this hypothetical chain as it doesnt have effects loop so I think it must be placed at the end of the chain? Personally thinking about either the Helix (LT) or Fractal FM9 to replace any amps/pedals for me. Helix seems the best priced product by far, but I feel only the Fractal products would 'last' at the highest level for years to come, given my belief that we'll get some new '2.0' modelers in 2024/2025 now most brands products are getting pretty old and are running out of DSP for new updates
At first, I was like YES. Then I thought, there would have to be a snapshot of your Kemper on your computer that could be modifiable. Not sure the conflict that could exist when you reconnect, i visualize the fiasco that iTunes can be.
Exactly! I don't see why HW is so keen on building a pedal-board wich is a hassle compared to the stage. Yeah, a smaller kemper, so we can put 6 pedals next to it, and some power supply and finally a midi-controller! How cool is that? 😂
If l was starting out this would have been my Christmas present. Seems awesome for a new Kemper user then upgrading to the Stage would be like option heaven. I’m 8+ years attending this party so my next Kemper product will be a bigger more powerful Kemper. Blessings to HW and The Sooooozzze in 2024.
I agree with one poster, YOU should have been the 1st Ytuber to have a Unit to Demo it over any other. As you Knowledge of Kemper usage is no. 1. You are 1st and formost the Kemper Go to Outfit, for information and most Profiles.
As someone who has been really drawn to the Kemper Tones, but totally priced out of the market. This seems like it could be a good fit for me. Some effects are better than none with the Tonex. I had just purchased the Headrush MX5 and am seriously considering returning it for this. I went to download your Headrush rigs and they are gone. I like a cleanish tone with dirt when you dig in. Only Kemper seems to realistically do this. Im open to suggestions and observations. I would miss the looper.
I would definitely give it a go. It’s my #1 out of all the digital solutions, but Tone X is right behind it. Either one on a pedalboard with your favorite effects is amazing.
The pedal, even with its limitations of interface, is one I would consider with one huge exception...they did not put a display on it to show you the IR etc you're playing. The Two Tones does. The fact there is no screen to easily check which ir/cab you're playing is a deal killer for me. I don't want to memorize buttons and it's to confusing in a performance. You could easily make a mistake. Definitely a deal killer for me. They wanted to save money...it would have been so easy, and made it a very usable and desirable pedal.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I literally asked this of another favorable rev view from another channel. I just don't get how people are willing to accept this in 2023. This is like a 1990's device. A display is a must have, especially if your in a live situation, for a device that can easily get stepped on and you have no idea where your at with the settings.
It’s meant to be integrated with the effects on a pedalboard. Just the amp section. I could probably just use one amp profile for a whole show, while tap dancing with effects pedals.
@@jimmcdougall9973ToneX does better captures than Kemper, looking at just the capturing technology. But Kemper has broader support from professionals such as Michael Britt and ToneJunkie
it should not be labelled as a player, it's a limited interface for a limited ROLE. Kemper should have gone to Tone Junkie to do a poll with users AND HAVE DONE THE DAM RESEARCH BEFORE HAND, ASK US WHAT WE NEED (DAM IT) before pulling the trigger, Tone Junkiie must be thanked for this, nearly bought 4, No stereo and can't use my rigs? COME ON MAN.. I play 2 kempers, together with 2 mission cabs. (sorry who is really going to enjoy this). Sorry , thank you for the great info guys.
Still not clear to me: if you only use three rigs live (clean, rhythm, solo) can you easily assign the three footswitches so you can toggle between all three of them?
@@thesoozeTJ do you also know if the “noise gate” is considered as one of the two pre-amp effect slots? Or can you add twee effects pre-amp and still have a noise gate set?
I think I’ll go with the Stage when I decided to jump in on another Kemper. I use a Kemper Rack at home/studio, and then I’ve been lazy and using a PodGo at church. I just feel like the Player is limited in ways that will frustrate me so the stage will be my upgrade!
The Stage is the best “all in one” option. The standard of Kemper’s effects makes it unnecessary to cart around effects pedals. Just add an expression pedal or two and you can’t go wrong.
Is the Rig Manager Software specific to The Player? I already have Rig Manager for my Stage. Do I use what I have or do I need to download The Player Software?
HW...... I'm a huge Kemper fan, but so far I see no reason to switch back from tonex. In fact, I think the capture algorithm from Tonex is superior to the kemper line. Thoughts? One last thing..... will you be releasing the BC15 for the Tonex? Just curious.... happy new years guys!
The scientific test of which capture is better/best have already been conducted. Here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fVB_WWsgnHo.htmlsi=F4B7J1bx1q-meMUF
@@guitartoneSA same to you and your loved ones, thank you. Yeah, I have a toaster, but was just curious about the Player’s functionality. I will stick with what I have.
Mmh ... I was completely hyped on the Kemper Player. We use the Rack and the Stage in the band. In my mind I wanted to use the player at home to build performances for gigs and then import them into the other Kemper. But the RigManager differences and the missing effects are making me nervous?! 👀
Ive been more a modeler guy vs amp profiler guy but I still feel like Kemper really fell short here. Also, extremely late to the party and double the competition. It sounds great obviously but so does the competition. It’s a great time to be a guitarist though. So the consumer is the winner in the end which is how it should be.
Probably the best review I have seen on the Player yet. I am still not buying one though. I don't get why they left off some of the staple effects and I don't like not having even a simple screen to tell you what profile you are on. Even the Tonex has this. I'm sure it sounds great, it just doesn't have what I need to use it on stage. ;)
@@thesoozeTJ But if you're going to use the ToneX on a pedalboard I think ToneX is a better choice. Seems like that's what most people are considering the Player for. Which in that case you should just get a Kemper Stage.
ToneX has better profiling than Kemper so a really good solution *IF* you have your FX sorted. Otherwise you would need something like the HX Stomp to pair with it and use all 6 slots for FX. But the ToneX + HX stomp is more expensive than the Player, but, the HX will have have those 2 extra slots, which may be vitally important. HX by itself gives you 5 slots as one of the slots is used for amps - but the Line 6 amps won't be a good as ToneX or Kemper.
too many compromises for the price. I guess It's usable as amp modeler, especially for people used to full kemper profiler. But for that price you can get ampero 2 stage or hx stomp xl which would make more sense.
Not impressed with the unit tbh… They missed some things that others have for less. Love having the Sooze on the channel though, you guys make a good combo!
You can get a used Kemper rack or toaster for like $900 now. It's definitely worth just shelling out the extra for a used Kemper than bothering with this at all. I was super excited when this was announced but it's pretty disappointing IMO. No FX loop is crazy.
Being a Kemper owner for over 10 years, I want to like this so bad. For me Kemper dropped the ball here. A player plays the media it’s supposed to play. Just like a CD player or an mp3 player plays whatever you throw at it as long as it is in the specific format for the player. That’s what I expected from this player. Grab any rig with whatever fx I have set and play it. Also no screen? Forget it. This player needs a lot of work. Kemper sound is Kemper sound which is the best in the business but the pedal form it what needs a lot of improvement.
I personally disagree. The lack of screen means nothing to me. Imagine kemper gave it a little screen like the profiler head, people would complain it didn’t have a app functionality wouldn’t they ? This seems to be designed to have a device easily accessible in your pocket IF you need to edit things but how often are you editing things while your play ?
Yeah no, I also disagree with you saying Kemper "dropped the ball" with the profiler player; they were smart in bringing Kemper to a whole new demographic that will appreciate this. Me personally I'm sticking with my Stage, but this will be a great Kemper platform for a lot of people. You yourself said: "Kemper sound is Kemper sound which is the best in the business", and a lot of people will be able to incorporate the Kemper sound into their pedalboard/rig.
@@sk8erchris01619 exactlly, i've been patiently waiting for this player the moment i saw how good a kemper could actually be, i new i would never need a full profiler cause i dont have a bunch of amps i want to profile or would need to, im happy to buy 4-5 profiles of my favourite amps and be happy with those. this opens the doors to the kemper world for a LOT of new people
The lack of stereo (dual amp) operation is the biggest mistake Kemper will ever make. Kemper's market is at least 60% worship guitarists who run stereo rigs with their delays and reverbs IN FRONT of two amps, or one of the stereo amp modeler pedals.
Guys ! This is an awesome pedal. I don't see limitations. Personally I travel a lot and throwing this in my carry on is the perfect pedal and companion. And I get those amazing Kemper sounds I own on my main Kemper profiler. I was always looking for Kemper to come out with a miniature pedal that I can load my custom favorite Kemper sounds and do my local and traveling gigs. I'm sure some updates they may offer some of the effects that we have on the regular Kemper.
You don't see any limitations? Let's just start with a lack of a display? It would be nice to look down and see what you're currently running instead of having to memorize your mapped layout. We are talking about 2023 and no display. I just think that's a little odd.
Lack of display, meaning if you're at a gig or practice you will have no idea what's wrong (and it will go wrong at some point) and have to find a way to fix it (I don't own a mobile phone and never will) and that is a huge problem, lack of FX slots, inability to use patches created on it's big brother - without dicing it up to fit. And even worse *NO* FX loop!!!!!
@@vedder10 Most floor pedals DO NOT HAVE SCREENS .. once u get your favorite presets you're good to go. Why would anyone want to be playing with their settings at a gig ? It's a guitar pedal on steroids !!
@@dougyfresh2054 The previous comment sums it up. If you have any extensive experience performing at live gigs YOU WILL run issues with your equipment that requires tweaking, even during a song.
I don't get the hype. Kemper seems to be stuck in the past compared to the competition. underpowered, overpriced, no screen, no modeling. why would anyone buy this over a HX stomp? you could buy an ampero 2 stomp and a tonex for the same price!
