First Level Dance - Scotland Lesson 1 

The stimulus for this lesson is the story “Katie Morag and the dance class”. Before participating in this dance class, learners should listen to the story and discuss what is special about traditional Scottish dancing and what other forms of dance the children are familiar with.
Learning Intentions:
Perform a range of simple steps such as marching, step ball change and turning on the spot
Demonstrate hand positions for highland dancing
Move in time to the music
During this lesson learners will:
take part in a short aerobic warm up
learn basic hand positions and movements of traditional highland dancing
create short pieces of choreography to music by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, using gestures/poses, marching, leg extension/kicks, transferring of weight and step ball change
cool down and stretch.
