Definitely don't see how it's "disrespectful" in any way. If an artist spends their life making stuff, they usually want it to be appreciated after they are gone. That goes for the really famous ones, and the supporting players like Charlie Watts who was typically not in the spotlight, but making contributions to the Rolling Stones that were just as important as any other member's. With all due respect to the Neil Pearts of the world, you do not need to drum like Neil Peart to be an excellent drummer. Charlie Watts is one example of that. Ringo Starr is another example. It's generally considered by those that study music that only Ringo, with his perfect timing, because of the multiple takes, could drum on on Sgt. Pepper. The other thing I like about Watts was his personality. While Mick, Keith and Ronny Wood have these larger than life personalities, Charlie had this steady, calm presence, similar to John Entwistle of the Who.

Yes, more Stones please, especially from Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main Street. They will not disappoint!! I do not think that doing a video of an artist that has just passed is in poor taste. When I heard the news, I was very sad, but hearing their music brings joy. This is a great tribute. Some younger listeners may not be aware of the long history and musical career of Charlie Watts, and you just introduced them to it. What better way to honor him, with his music. Maybe a new fan has just been created.

Remembering a musician through listening to his music is the best way there is. And I never would think that your reactions on the occasion of someone's death could be some kind of attention seeking. Implying this IMO is an insult you do not deserve. Since you are thoughtful and reflexive, just rely on what you think and feel is right. One of the best ways you can pay respect to a musician who dies is to play their music and talk about them. Anyone who plays their music for selfish reasons isn't worth anyone's time. Daniel isn't selfish. He's one of the most sincerest music reactors on youtube, but there's just no pleasing some people.

You should really explore the stones more. They were arguably the most versatile band ever. Their discography (and hits) span: pure rock, pure pop, delta blues, country, Latin groove, funk, disco and r&b. Imho, the stones zenith was the three consecutive records let it bleed, sticky fingers and exile on main st. That’s not to say that they didn’t produce gold before and after but they just didn’t miss on those records. Some recommendations: can’t you hear me knocking, love in vain, midnight rambler, wild horses, tumbling dice, rocks off, ventilator blues, sister morphine, brown sugar, honky tonk women, stray cat blues.

You have created a community Daniel, the size of a medium-sized town, and many members of your community are in mourning for these giants of music when they pass, so i consider you to be doing a service by offering your reflections on their passing. i personally think it would be disrespectful for you not to.

I think to really appreciate Charlie Watts as a drummer, start at the beginning. The early Rock and Roll songs. Don't start on chapter 2 or 3 of their catalogue. The early Rolling Stones songs still have a punch and are still as potent as they were when they were first recorded. As to playing songs of bands or people that pass on. I think the people, or person that takes issue with that is full of it. I take quite an issue with that kind of sentiment. Just imagine what happened when the world first heard about the death of John Lennon. Suddenly every radio station was playing nothing but either John Lennon songs or Beatles songs, throughout the world. That's how you celebrate their lives, and their contribution to your live. As another person paying tribute to Charlie today said, "You get to time travel listening to songs." It is a sad day for his passing. Yet he was 80, and lived a very full life making millions of people happy with his talent. And today a lot of people are digging out their Rolling Stones albums and playing them, and remembering Charlie.

No, you are not being disrespectful to the artist. You may be discovering an artist that you might never have listened to, or paid much attention to. Becoming a new fan of the person, or their music, would be a great way to honor them. I became a huge fan of Kate Wolf after hearing a interview/tribute on the radio after she passed. I never heard of her before that, and it might have been a long time before I ever did. If so, it would have been my loss. Having said all that, we lost a wonderful singer-songwriter last week, Nanci Griffith. It may be worth your while to find a video with a lot of views and give it a shot. There isn't a bad one. If you are not familiar with her, someone hearing her music and becoming a new fan would be a show of respect. Even for artists that are more well known, you may be creating a new fan among your legion of viewers.

Oh bro, I actually choked up watching this. He had the best snare drum whack. I love his fills on this one; like Ringo, it's not flashy, it's just in the pocket. I love how he plays the ending of the song. I see people below saying you shoulda done this one, or that one: there is no ONE Charlie Watts track. I suggested this one because it was the first thing that popped into my head because of those simple, unusual, cool fills, and the whack of that snare drum, and the outro. "Tumbling Dice", "Rip That Joint", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Midnight Rambler" etc are all great too, there are tons of songs to check out Charlie. As Mick says on "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out": 'Charlie's good tonight!" PS: Mick - especially on "Exile On Main Street", where his voice sits with the band in the mix - is often not understandable lyric-wise. I have never known what the lyrics to "Loving Cup" were, and when I tried to figure them out (before the internet), I came up with the weirdest lyrics that I can't imagine they're the real ones! :D

You have always been the most respectful and I'm sure that your fans love and respect you for paying tribute to the wonderful music given us by those performers that have passed on. I'm 83 years old and people my age don't get to hear many of our old favorites much anymore and really appreciate you bringing them to live on with your channel. Pay NO ATTENTION to those who criticize you for your tributes. They are far far in the minority and we definitely do NOT want you to stop. Keep on doing what you do. We love you for that.

My 2 cents on your tribute videos: Over time I've noticed you're more thoughtful and sensitive and empathetic than most. I can tell a death will get you to begin to research more about an artist and feel genuinely sad for even people you've never known.That same sensitivity is what's making you question if it's the wrong thing to do. There's a natural feeling of wanting to "do something" or "say something" because in reality you're helpless that they're gone even though you're moved. So you want to do something...some form of message that "they were there and mattered" because it's all we can do really.(I hope I captured that feeling right) Right now, every cover band in the world is talking about adding a Stones song to their gig this weekend and popular musicians are going to be recording personal versions of a song here and there. It's their way of doing the same thing in the only way they know they can help. There's also a relief for you to get that emotion out of yourself and express it even in just a 10 min video. Holding that in over and over is unhealthy. Overall I think It's a nice way to honor someone's life and show they mattered. Personally I hope you don't stop doing it.

Very sad loss today. Charlie Watts was one of the greatest of all rock drummers. My favorite performances of his were on "Midnight Rambler", "Brown Sugar", and "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Goodbye Charlie. You'll be missed.

Exile on Main Street was a continuation of the southern blues that marked the late sixties early seventies style of the Stones. Songs like Sweet Virginia and Tumbling Dice were a return to the more bluesy rock songs that started their career. Other notable songs from this period were: Midnight Rambler, Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Dead Flowers...The Rolling Stones somehow managed to stay relevant while other sixties bands did not. "The Greatest Rock and Roll band in the World" They had the unique ability to adapt to many different genres of rock (psychedelic, glam, new wave, and even disco (Some Girls). For me, I’ve always felt that the early seventies stuff was their best. RIP Mr Watts. Ps, How the hell is Keith Richards still alive? The man is indestructible!

Daniel, I do think the song is broader than just a romantic love song--to me it seems more about the power of love as a general force, including, but not at all defined by romantic love. I don't think doing videos soon after an artist's passing is disrespectful by itself. It can be if done in a crass/self-aggrandizing way, but anyone that watches you enough would know you treat artists with great respect, so just keep doing what you're doing. There will always be nay-sayers in every crowd, but the fact that you even discussed the issue in your video shows that your heart is in the right place.

I think it's human nature to listen to music of great bands more when a member passes away. I don't see you as trying to profit from their deaths and thus don't think you are being disrespectful at all. I do think that there is a tendency to overplay how great they were, but in this case I don't think that's true, and again it's human nature. If you are pulling out 20 songs the week after the event then maybe, but you're not doing this, you are genuinely interested in the music, and again bringing music even I've not heard to a new generation and celebrating this man's amazing talent in one of the greatest bands of all time. Don't stop doing this. I actually think it would be disrespectful not to put out a video. So keep on doing what you're doing!!!

"Loving Cup" is only a small part of the album Exile On Main Street - which should be experienced by every musician.

DANIEL, one Stones album you need to hear is “Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out”, a live album that was recorded on their 1969 US tour. Every song is stunning, and it proves just how great they were live. Mick Taylor’s phenomenal guitar playing is what makes the album such a classic. The live version of “Sympathy For The Devil” is far more explosive than the studio version.

I've been a diehard Stones fan since the early 60's. Watching young people like yourself listen to and appreciate their music brings me joy. Keep doing what you're doing Daniel.

Honestly Daniel it never occurred to me that you were exploiting death for views, you are a rock guy so I think you are qualified to pay tribute to Charlie or anyone else. Perhaps consider a reaction to Nanci Griffith who passed away last week, she deserved way more recognition for her songs, although she was much loved and respected by musicians. Daniel, please don't stop doing what you're doing because they are on some high horse. You are one of the most respectful reactors on RU-vid. As for this song, I'm no Stones fan. I thought this was a Phish song for years, they do this live and very well. I totally respect and appreciate Charlie Watts' work, he was a true Gentleman. The odd thing is Keith is going to out live all them. Probably the main reason I'm not a Stones fan is because of fish face Mick Jagger, I just can't get past his stage antics and attitude. Audio suggestions. Whatever is compressing the audio so much - meaning dynamic compression should be reduced. The songs are all coming out very compressed. What I mean is the low parts are brought up in level, and the louder (higher output parts) are being reduced in level. I think your videos would benefit from reducing the dynamic compression if you are applying that kind of compression (not "mp3" compression) to the audio. This might be introduced in the streaming software you are using as in (keep the volume the same). If there's no check mark or button to defeat the "keep the volume the same," or compress audio, function, then the music volume will not be the volume through the song as intended by the producer. It's not a showstopper, but for people who know the songs, like me, and want to see how you react, and what you say (thanks for that) it can be bothersome. Thanks for listening.

Saw the Stones three times. Back on Steel Wheels tour and then twice in the 00's. Charlie Watts was a swingin drummer that kept it all together when things could get sloppy, pulling the boys back in to gel. Loved his demeaner and respectful attitude of music and people. RIP Mr Watts. Great choice of a song Daniel. The Stones always remind me of the greatest bar band ever. Some songs sound like they were made right their in the middle of the smoke, beer circle stains and torn barstools. Thats a compliment. Loving Cup is no exception. Its really funny seeing them in concert. Most bands play a set and have to hold back the two or three hits or at most a handful. But with the Stones they play two hours and its one hit after another. My smile would jusr get bigger and the crowd energy from the band and the hits were just unbelievable. Always will be a fantastic band.

When I was in the Music Retail business, I wanted to have a "Now That They're Dead" Sale because immediately after a musician died, there was a rush on their albums. This is perfectly normal and you should CONTINUE to embrace it! Especially if you're unfamiliar with the Artist - is it a perfect time to acquaint yourself with their work and to hear what everyone is lamenting about.

When he stepped down from the upcoming tour 3 weeks ago, announcing he was going for a “medical procedure” I got worried. But then, I thought, he beat throat cancer in 2004, he’ll pull through, whatever it is. Maybe cause of death will be disclosed in time. I saw the Stones first time in 1972 at the Garden: they were touring Exile on Main Street. Because my college had a ticketron outlet, with no limits, a friend bought 100 tickets and resold them to all our friends (for face value). We waited for it to open, garnering front row seats. Well the first row after at least 20 rows that were roped off for special folks. It was great experiencing that show with so many friends. I had just turned 18. And the show was less than 2 months later, on Mick’s 39th birthday. He got a cake, confetti fell from the ceiling, pies were distributed to the band which they through at the audience. What a night! I saw them again 3 summers later 75, and then 3 years after that 78. That toured Some Girls which is my favorite album and was my favorite concert by far. RIP Charlie.

I appreciate the notice and tribute to the artists that pass but it would mean more with deeper research. Did you know he started as a jazz drummer and was in several side bands? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Watts#Discography He wasn't Keith Moon type of drummer or personality, in fact I know little about him and never noticed much about his playing (I was going to point out 'Sympathy for the Devil' but that was Bill Wyman helping on percussion). I understand he was a fine drummer, good tempo keeper which is crucial for many bands that aren't The Who. I respect him, never heard a bad thing about him, he was one of the 3 primary members after Brian Jones passed away.

Daniel, please don't change what you do. I can't even imagine someone who would stand *against* paying tribute to an artist who's died. Sadly, the math tells me that as the boomers age, we are going to lose a large number of artists every month of every year, for something like the next 20 years. Assuming the crest of the baby boom is around 1959 and a life expectancy age 80 (or higher), we are in for many more sad days as the years pass. So "waiting to pay tribute" just means "letting someone's death be eclipsed by more deaths before we get around to paying them tribute." That makes no sense.

I think this was a great choice of songs to choose for a tribute to Charlie Watts. There are many much bigger hits, and many that Charlie Watts is praised for, but I think Loving Cup was a great choice nonetheless because it is one of the Stones greatest lesser known classics. And Charlie Watts drumming on this song is just spectacular.

Most of these music icons are not from your generation and you formed this channel to investigate that time period and develop a knowledge about all music. For you to not be intimately familiar with their music or not spend your free time married to it, in no way is to discredit them, there is just so much music and never enough time to hear and appreciate all of it. I like the quick tributes because it helps me through the grieving process of losing somebody who has been a part of my life for so many years.
