It’s interesting how Waits evolved this character from the lounge Jazz crooner through all the iterations. Great choice. Waits is amazing. Great reaction.

Thank you, thank you 💜 approach in any way you see fit, just please continue with Tom Waits. His voice sounds so very young in this period. Brilliantly written song, as always, and yes I'll still keep requesting. I read a great comment on Tom Waits, " in a world of Miller Lights Tom is a tankard of Guinness". Great job Daniel, enjoy this adventure. 🎶

He does sound young on this record but he was an old soul.

@@Hartlor_Tayley last night I listened to Heartattack and Vine and then hypnoticly went for Raindogs, could've listened all night so this kind of slapped me in the face, in a good way. Yes, he was always an old soul. 🎶

Love the piano, very clubbish. I see him with his cigarette. It's a mellow vibe. Sax is fabulous. Those lyrics with that voice. None better at it than Tom.

Lots of good suggestions here. The whole "Closing Time" album is a master class in songwriting, but I would suggest "I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You" as a starting point.

Great song! You should definitely listen to Nighthawks at the Diner, the full album was recorded with a studio audience and is filled with almost stand up from Tom between songs. It's a great album, give it a try!

Wow! This was before his voice turned to pure gravel (which is good as well). I once read that Scotch is "the drug of defeat". This number has something of that vibe. The jazzy part was unexpected, a gaudy emotional interlude between troughs of hopelessness. Good number.

I love those first two albums so much. There are other albums further down stream that I love just as much but these were marvelous. Jazz, Folk, Blues and heartache blended together into two amazing albums.... cigar chewing charlie in his newspaper nest, giving hot horse bets...

Always happy to hear more Tom Waits on your channel. If you like his jazzier/blues side, check out Romeo is Bleeding, Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis, or 29 dollars. 😊I think you'll be pleasantly surprised

So glad you've done another Tom Waits. I think it's time to get weird. I'd love to see a reaction for something like Heart Attack and Vine, or Singapore, Goin' Out West, Clap Hands. Or even 'I'm sorry...WHaT did I just hear?' like What's he Building in There or Cemetery Polka. Just something gloriously wackadoodle yet also, of course, brilliant.

This is my favorite Tom Waits album, I hope you listen to more of it eventually... "New Coat of Paint" might be the best introduction to early Waits, a perfect encapsulation of his vibe and talents, and the best song to put on before you go out on the town. "(Looking for) The Heart of Saturday Night" is just pure bliss, the kind of song that hits deep and comes to you in times of need.

Love his Kurt Weill phase, when his wife Kathleen Brennan started co-writing with him. Suggestion: "Misery Is the River of the World" from Blood Money.

Love the double bass on this track. And as much as I love many of his later albums (especially Alice and Blood Money) , this still seems to be the one I come back to most often.

My personal favorite Tom Waits song is his cover of "Heigh Ho" (the dwarfs' marching song) from Disney's Snow White. No joke. It is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike this one. And yet it is possible to love them both.

Although it's hard to argue against the assumption that a Waits protagonist is two sheets to the wind, my take is that "Drunk on the moon" means he's besotted with the sights and sounds on - as well as above - a Manhattan street at night. Albeit most likely with a couple few in him...

One of the most brilliant artists ever and I'm not sure there's anyone remotely like him. I recently keep finding myself coming back to the live video of "Lord, I've Been Changed" on his youtube channel, talk about passion! Check it out.

Tom Waits is a genius, he's one of my holy trilogy of song writers - Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Nick Cave (in no particular order). Tom Waits is awesome though, there's no way to describe his music since he straddles so many genres of music. All three of them are poets though.

Tom Waits always sounds to me like someone you would listen to in a smoke-filled bar or club at 2am. I had a best friend in high school back in 1964 who had one of his albums and played it whenever I was over there. Songs I remember are Parchment Farm and The Seventh Son….they were much more jazzy than this song…..

I feel like Tom starts writing a song with the intention of playing the wrong note, but then when the song is done that wrong note comes at just the right time.
