"Repulsive" "Offensive" "Lewd" "Satanic", Etc...that was all the parents when Zepplin released this one--They even boycotted thier concerts --"They're corrupting our children with this sinful garbage, Blah, blah, blah". They couldn't stop it, though--the Zepplin was in full flight, kicking off the new sound known as "Arena Rock"

I've been lucky to be listening to LZ for more than 50 years now....its a great joy to see someone *get it* from day 1. The live concerts are on an entirely other level....someday once you make it thru the albums, the live shows are a must research. TY for the great reactions.

Verdy, you are quickly becoming my most favorite reactor on YT. I was a sophomore in High School when this album debuted, and I have enjoyed this music for a lifetime. The whole reason I watch reactors to music is to see the spark of enjoyment that I remember when I first heard this music. Your honest reaction is so satisfying and pure joy to behold. You really have a connection to this music, and I am happy to see young people of your generation appreciate what we now refer to as "Classic Rock". For me and a large number of people it is the soundtrack of our lives. Thank you, keep rocking and uncovering these gems.

Finally, a true reaction channel. It's refreshing to see someone reacting to MUSIC. I've been getting tired of reactors trying to break down and analyze lyrics and interpret what the song is about, while ignoring what's going on, musically. I've been a hard-core led zep fan for 50 years and i still don't know half of what RP is talking about. But it doesn't matter because the music is what's important.

That wacky noise in the middle of Whole Lotta Love is Jimmy Page playing a device called the Theremin. Used alot in science fiction movies. The "old door" sound is pick scratching with echo. Gotta love that subtle "wah" on the solo. Every song on that album is a classic. Jimmy was a true artist on the guitar.

@@iansharp7422 I think that is what made LZ unique. Page (and JPJ) had a lot of session experience, and Page had a vision. So when the band formed, Page took on the producer role from the outset.
@iansharp7422
@iansharp7422 2 года назад
@@screamindeacon no doubt. The more I listen to Led Zeppelin the more I notice JPJ's contribution. Can see why he is still in high demand as an arranger and producer and his career after LZ was much more varied than Page's. Page couldn't find the right combination to form a new band after The Firm and seemed satisfied in working on the LZ legacy. Have to admit that I was shocked when Jones wasn't invited to be part of the Page and Plant disc and tour but they seemed happy enough together after the London concert later. Plant's post LZ career worked out nicely as well but it was obvious he was going tin a different direction to the other two.

At first, I would listen to the music from outside his bedroom door (because I was not allowed inside his room, especially when his friends were there), but when he noticed me that not only was standing there, but I was really enjoying what he was playing! He later let me in the room, warning me to not touch anything or say anything about what they were doing in the room. From that day on (1970), I was hooked! Everyday at school lunchtime, rain or shine, my mates and I would run five blocks to the drug store that sold albums. Oh the disappointment when we wouldn't find it. The first album was such a revelation that we couldn't wait for more. The day it arrived and we saw it in the rack is a day fifty three years later I haven't forgot. With all that anticipation, the album did not disappoint and I wore it out as I did all their albums. That album to this day is on my album shelf. What great time to grow up.

In the freakout section of this song, Jimmy Page played a theremin, a bizarre electronic instrument he liked to experiment with consisting of a black box and antennae, famously heard on the 1966 Beach Boys song "Good Vibrations." The sound is altered by moving one's hand closer to or farther from the antennae and was used to create the fuzz that alternates back and forth through the speakers. It can be heard to great effect on their Royal Albert Hall footage. Page decided to try theremin after hearing the group Spirit use one.

What a revelation to the listening public with LZ 1 and then this explosion of head-bangin' music in LZ 2. ICONIC. Cymbals, tom-toms, Bonzo was a master of all percussion. And who doesn't love JPJ's BASS LINE?! Then the hyper lead guitar by Page. How have our ears withstood this onslaught for all these years?! A band that was NOT AFRAID OF BASS PASSAGES. Love it!!! The sound going from left to right is a studio recording technique called "Panning". Jimmy Page was a big fan of using this in production and mixing guitar and vocals backwards with forwards. The echo on the part where Robert Plant sings "Way Down Inside" is the vocals bleeding from another vocal track. It wasn't supposed to happen but Page thought it sounded cool so he left it in. I don't know if anyone said, that sound you thought sounded like a squeeky old door is guitarist Jimmy Page scratching at the windings on the strings with the side of the guitar pick. Pick slides would become very popular in the 70;s abd 80's, but Jimmy is doing something much more creative than just that.

I appreciate that you back up an adequate amount after you pause to comment. That way you don’t miss the transitions. Sadly, not all YT reactors do this.

Led Zeppelin was fantastic back in my high school days of the very early 1970's and it's nice to see they always seem to find a new audience. I enjoy your reactions and the music is just killer. Best.

When you react to side 2 Heartbreaker and Livin Lovin Maid were usually played together. This is what the good FM stations would do. I always found it frustrating when radio stations would play Heartbreaker by itself.

They called this album "The Brown Bomber" because it was brown-ish in color and it's sales rate and longevity were unbelievably strong.

I carried around well folded ten bucks in my jeans pocket for about three weeks waiting to buy this album when it was released. Everyday at school lunchtime, rain or shine, my mates and I would run five blocks to the drug store that sold albums. Oh the disappointment when we wouldn't find it out yet. The first album was such a revelation that we couldn't wait for more. The day it arrived and we saw it in the rack

Verdy. A few comments. When you think you have heard something before think about when this was recorded. I was 22 when I bought this album and I'm 75 now. These guys had/have incredible talent. You keep mentioning the bass. That's John Paul Jones. He also plays keyboard and if you watch the O2 concert video you will see him playing bass and keyboard.. Watch him carefully. Talent. Jimmy Page is an amazing guitar player, and as somebody who played guitar as a teenager in the early 60s. I have to tell you that Led Zeppelin were revolutionary. They didn't just shock you on first listen , they shocked us, and in 1969 there was nothing like them. I have all their albums, in vinyl, bought when the albums were released and then again much later remastered on CD. Stairway to Heaven still gives me goose bumps when I hear it.

So cool to see someone listen to an album for then first time that I've listened to thousands of times. Zeppelin are like a train journey that once you get on, you don't want to get off.

Jimmy Page is the lead guitarist and recognized as one of the greatest to ever play the guitar. John Paul Jones on base, John Bonham on drums and of course Robert Plant on Vocals. Four of the best musicians to ever play together in a band.

Love your reactions on first listening. I was 13 when i first hear this, my older brother bought it. My favourite album is LZ 3 mainly because when i was doing my school exams it was the only album I had! (Listen to Tangerine) I really appreciate your enjoyment and reaction to this music especially when you rewind Whole Lotta Love to hear the drum guitar burst after the first section. :-)

What a great album, eh? I'm not a drummer, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the "ping" sound you were referring to in "Whole Lotta Love" is John Bonham hitting the bell or dome of the cymbals (instead of closer to the edge where they are normally struck). The "creaking door" sound is nothing more than a pick scraping the windings of the lower strings (slowly, and with a whole lotta echo). John Paul Jones' bass lines are just perfect, so much swagger, and he played the organ parts. Robert Plant's vocals, raspy and emotional and powerful. Jimmy Page is the guitarist every guitar player tries to emulate. So much contrast. This album is one of the greatest of the 20th century. Just an absolute masterpiece.

These were the early days of Stereo Verdy. So bands and producers liked to showcase the difference Stereo could make to their recordings. Love your exactment and enthusiasm.
