First Live Test - Check Polarity of 3 Phase Supply, Using an Approved Voltage Indicator AM2 & AM2S

First live test according to BS 7671 is check polarity of the supply with an approved voltage indicator. For AM2 and AM2S the 3 phase distribution board will need testing to prove the incoming 3 phase supply polarity. For this test I used a voltage indicator and proving unit I explained in the video my thinking behind my use of the proving unit as it is not necessarily required. As always preparing for your end skills test AM2, AM2S or AM2E requires time testing at college and on-site experience of testing electrical circuits.

A and here again it is something different from what we were taught by the invited colleague, respectively, that strict "ritual" of checking the phases one by one, not one after the other, must be respected !!! respectively L1 ... L2...L3 then L1 Earth and finally L 1 neutral !!!

Hi Gary , quick question if you have two separate 3 phase supplies within an installation and want to phase them off each other , what is currently standard practice , rota scope them both or use a meter across them to see zero volts ? Many thanks in advance

If it's that specific Megger that you want they have stopped manufacturing it. You may be able to find some stock of the TPT320 left at your local Screwfix. Otherwise search for the replacement TPT420.

Look for GS38 rated voltage testers. If you use Google for that GS38 you‘ll also find the requirements for the testers. Afaik they‘re usually not marked with this GS38 because that‘s a british localisation of a european EN standard for voltage testers.

sorry, one more confusion!!! again I'm a follower of the dev system for sure, but in the case of checking the measuring instruments (we are taught to use that special device for checking the instruments) but who checks that device? because that too can give errors!!!

hello, I am excited about these courses, but the three phases were not supposed to be different colors, according to your regulations!!! or are you Romanian, that is our flag!!! weren't they supposed to be brown, black and grey? in the European Union I know that they are used on the old code and here, but still the same with the old system!!!
